24.01.2022 Just spent a beautiful long weekend at Strahan on Tasmanias west coast, on the shore of Macquarie Harbour, Australias second biggest harbour and 6 times the size of Sydney Harbour. Home to the mouth of the famous Gordon River (standby for those photos). Here are some shots of Strahan including sunrise and sunset and the beautiful Hogarth Falls. Really like to know your favourites.
24.01.2022 Akureyri is a beautiful town on the shores of the Eyjafjordur Fjord. It features a lovely Botanical Gardens with over 2,000 species of flowers, plants & shrubs.

23.01.2022 Godafoss Waterfall, Skjalfandufljot River, Iceland
22.01.2022 The incredible salt mine of Wielicka. This salt mine has been operating since the 1600 hundreds. Rock salt (and later salt water) has been mined for over 400 years. The enormous chambers are not caves, rather cavities created by the removal of salt. All the statues and carvings are carved by the miners from Rock Salt. The tiles on the floor are made from rock salt. Do not be daunted by the 400 steps by which you descend the 135 metres into the mine. At least an elevator takes you out. A labrynth of shafts, tunnels and chambers await that are truly amazing.
22.01.2022 A beautiful B&B at Deloraine where we stayed last weekend. Highly recommended
22.01.2022 Located south of Darwin, Litchfield was a wonderful National Park. The best waterfalls we saw, with Wangi Falls being the highlight and beautiful waterways. A true highlight was "The Lost City" - a field of rock formations left over from when this was the bottom of a vast ocean - now looks like the remnants of a transformer city. Check out the faces and images you can make from the rock formations. Fascinating! Topped off by the fields of magnetic termite mounds - always built facing north-south, as well as the tallest cathedral termite mounds
21.01.2022 The beautiful St Beatus Cave, located on the shores of Lake Thun under the Niederhorn which towers 1950 metres above. A massive cave of which 14km have been explored, 1 km open to the public. Two rivers travel through the cave, meeting at the mouth to form a splendid double waterfall. Discovered by an Irish Monk, St Beatus in 100AD who had to evict a fire breathing dragon before setting up residence in the cave.
21.01.2022 The beautiful Ben Lomond, with the only access Jacob's Ladder, one of Tasmania's most treacherous roads. Welcomed at the top with a snow shower rolling in and winds so strong blowing the glasses off our face. Time to get out quick.
20.01.2022 The beautiful Liffey Falls are located in Midlands Tasmania, between Liffey and Deloraine. A series of 4 tiered cascading waterfalls stretching down a few hundred metres of the Liffey River. Definitely worth a visit.
19.01.2022 Fossardula Valley is a short distance from the small Iceland town of Djupivogur. It is commonly known at the Valley of Waterfalls and wonderful for scenery.
18.01.2022 The Bungle Bungles are situated un Purnululu National Park, in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia, about 300km south of Kunanurra. A stunning collection of distinctive bee-hive shaped rock formations.
17.01.2022 Welcome to a new addition to Kirbys Holiday Photos - Photos from holidays in days gone by. These photos were taken in 1993 with a Canon AV-1 35mm. The experiment has been to save them to digital and relive the past. 1880 Town was born out of an abandoned movie set in the early 1970s. Most famous for the film set for Dances with Wolves starring Kevin Costner

16.01.2022 Two hours from home is the Gordon River Dam, built in 1974. It has taken us two years for our first visit. Not only is it spectacular, it represents a controversial part of Tasmanias history - a dam filling beautiful canyons. Whilst it is the 5th highest Dam wall in Australia, it is the highest arch dam and holds back the largest storage of water in Australia. Spent a lovely two days at near-by Lake Pedder. Visited the Dam twice, once in misty rain and once lovely sunshine.
16.01.2022 The point where the Derwent River flows into Storm Bay, marked by the Iron Pot Lighthouse. The Iron Pot lighthouse was the first in Tasmania and second oldest in Australia, however, because the Macquarie lighthouse in NSW was rebuilt in 1883, makes this the oldest original lighthouse tower in Australia. What a great spot to have your sheep farm.
15.01.2022 on the Eyjafjordur Fjord, the longest fjord in Iceland
15.01.2022 Gulfoss Waterfall, Iceland

09.01.2022 Off the North-West corner of Tasmania is the beautiful King Island. Famous for cheese, golf courses, dairy farms, birds and a spectacular rugged coastline. Here are 101 reasons to spend a few days there.
07.01.2022 One of my favourite locations in Berlin was Bebelplatz Square. So much of Berlin history is captured here. The horse statue is a monument to Frederick the Great and Prussian history. But what puts this on the map is that it is the home of Humboldt University and the site of one of the first Nazi Book Burnings. Those images from my school days are etched on my mind so to sit in the stillness of this place meant so much. The square of light you see is a skylight looking down on an empty library. Very powerful. How meaningful to be there the day a book stall was being conducted.
07.01.2022 The Adelaide River was teaming with Crocodiles and beautiful birds. Never expected to so "in your face" with a crocodile. Please like your favourites.
06.01.2022 A beautiful sunset cruise with Wetland Cruises on the Corroboree Billabong. Great range of birdlife and a great sunset.
06.01.2022 That moment when history could have been significantly rewritten. Recherche Bay Tasmania is a little off the general tourist trail but has a significant place in Australias history of what could have been. We speak so much of British settlement, but little about the French visits. There is difference. The French came in search of learning, not land. French Admiral Bruny DEntrecasteaux first discovered this part of Tasmania in 1792. He named it Recherche Bay after the... name of his ship. Its significance is that it is the location of the first ever scientific experiments on Australian soil, and the first European gardens planted over 2 expeditions in 1792 and 1793. They studied our fauna and flora and made significant documentation about their friendly interaction with the aboriginal people. An observatory was established to study the Earths magnetic field. The site of Australias first garden, observatory and scientific experiments is now in the Tasmanian Land Conservancy Reserve. Today it is simply a beautiful little bay at the end of the road at the bottom of the Island, but holds a secret of what could have been a very different history. See more
03.01.2022 Beautiful St Columba Falls and Mount Albert Rivulet
03.01.2022 Lake Wilderness Lodge is the town of Strathgordon. There is nothing else. Only 15km from the end of the road at Gordon Dam. The lake is also man made, once a small lake, now 50km long. The lodge is the old Hydro camp. What a beautiful peaceful setting.
02.01.2022 Old Hobart Town Model Village isolated at Richmond, Tasmania. A 1:16 scale model of Hobart "as it was then" gives a real authentic glimpse of life of yesteryear.
01.01.2022 A truly spectacular example of past and current volcanic activity. Major sites include the village of Reykjahlid, the Skutustadir Craters, Dimmuborgir Lava labyrinth, Namafjall Mountain, Hverfjall Hot sulphur springs and Krafla volcano.
