22.01.2022 WORK SAFETY BILL PASSED Greg Zappelli lost his 18-year-old son Jayden in 2013 when, after two days as an apprentice, he was electrocuted in the roof cav...ity of a Bunbury house. For more than six years Mr Zappelli has been campaigning with a group of families who have lost their loved ones to workplace deaths for new laws. Last night the Work Health and Safety Bill finally passed the Upper House after a lengthy debate period. The new laws will criminalise industrial manslaughter and include harsher penalties for those convicted, including 5-20 years prison for individuals and a maximum $10 million fine for businesses. Mr Zappelli said it was a bitter sweet victory to get to this point. "I think these laws should have been there in the first place many years ago," Mr Zappelli said. "We started doing this because we didn't want other people to lose their lives at workplaces and for families to have to endure this journey."
