25.01.2022 Getting together with students AFTER the term is finished is one of the bonuses of teaching. At Georges Heights there are opportunities to practice all the skills learnt - a perfect afternoon in my view! New term starts Saturday 11 July

23.01.2022 Glad we caught a breath of Spring before the weather closed in. Lovely to spend the morning with this trio of Intro Sketch Graduates in the amazing Royal Botanic Gardens, keeping our skills up between sketch-class terms...

23.01.2022 People add a vital ingredient to any urban scene and as one student pointed out, people help locate a place in time, culture, and place. But they can be hard to sketch! Kudos to all the gals for braving the wild wind to catch the scurrying figures...

23.01.2022 Just a matter of linear perspective - eyeline, vanishing points and convergence - all heady stuff but very satisfying when the magic formula works!

20.01.2022 A touch of Paris - warmed up with Vespas and treated to delicious madeleines by one of the class, we then broke houses down (figuratively speaking) into flat shapes and headed out into the chilly day to sketch the real thing - for some, a very first attempt at sketching a building. How good are they?!

18.01.2022 So looking forward to taking this fun bunch of enthusiasts on the next step of the journey - learning to sketch on the hop!

16.01.2022 Hi everyone- so excited to be re-opening our Intro Sketch Classes. We start next Saturday 11 July so jump in and book now or shoot me any questions you may have. Hope to see you soon for some socially distant fun https://erinhillsketching.com/mosman-sydney-nsw

15.01.2022 So lucky to have caught the last bit of sun before the big weather moved in... first timers learnt to see the subject as a series of shapes, and today we looked at all things watery, and how water is sometimes best sketched by not sketching it!

14.01.2022 Well, another Intro term has come to an end and I feel like I have a new bunch of friends. Finished on a high note with a very busy learning session, unwound over a delicious lunch in the ‘studio’ and then topped up our inspiration tanks by checking out the finalists in the Mosman Art Prize 2020 - a perfect day!

11.01.2022 Today’s class focussed on organic line - fruits and a wintery tree, followed by a leafy evergreen and a well-deserved coffee. Fun to see my class in tandem with Erin Hill’s which is happening way up north...

10.01.2022 A new journey begins... a word I heard from my new students a few times was ‘fun’ Yes...finding out that you CAN sketch is fun. And finding out you can complete a lovely sketch in your very first class is fun AND satisfying!

10.01.2022 Part of being a sketcher-on-the-go is knowing when to stay! Too wet for our planned destination, we made the most of the outlook from home base. Textural techniques to add tonal value to our sketches were the theme today... (along with Clarice Cliff, my grandmother's Royal Doulton, and cakes! We love our food too)

06.01.2022 Lucky to have had a lesson looking at clouds before there was nothing but clouds! A perfect day down at Mosman Bay, learning new watercolour techniques, and some tricks for skies..

06.01.2022 Sometimes things just click... we were so lucky to be able to hold our class on the porch of this fab local exhibition space PLUS the exhibition was Regenerate, and full of native species. Which just happened to be our topic for today. Yes, a few dogs and a cow made their way in, but hey.

05.01.2022 I was really proud of my students yesterday - each one of them took to it like a ...well... duck to watercolour!

05.01.2022 Kicked off our Next Steps class with studies of the shapes of native flora and what better location for this than the garden of May Gibbs, with a tour of her charming little house Nutcote. Well worth a visit!
