17.01.2022 Saturday night was amazing, and an absolute highlight of my year, at Reconnect, University of the Sunshine Coast's Creative Industries Festival. I was so excited to be given the opportunity by my honours programme supervisor, Dr Sarah Casey, to moderate the Twilight Science Panel discussion: "How to save the world: Connecting science to the public." The panellists were: ... Professor Nick Paul, a marine biologist who researches seaweed and algae. Professor Patrick Nunn, a geographer and geologist. Patrick is the author of more than three hundred peer-reviewed articles and is a lead author on IPCC reports. Dr Leah Barclay, who is an award-winning sound artist and producer. Dr Guy Healy, a journalist, who reported on global warming for many years. And, Dr Alexandra Campbell, an award-winning marine ecologist. So many insights and takeaways from this incredible group! How do you get involved and engaged in climate change conversations?

05.01.2022 Today's mindfulness tip: I often use the S.T.O.P acronym for mindfulness - S = Stop right now T = Take a breath ... O = Observe what is going on around you and within you, just observe it P = Proceed with your next action or non-action; whatever you feel most appropriate, beneficial, and purposeful. To be able to consciously pause and stop is a very powerful state. When you pause you give yourself permission to not have to be anything or do anything in that moment you give yourself a mini break to reflect and become aware of the present where there are only choices. Following this with a couple of deep breathes in and out to release tension will clear uneasy feelings in your body and reduce anxiety levels. You may then begin to notice that you have more clarity and insight into the situation that got you so wound up. From this vantage point of calm and possible clarity you can observe what is actually going on around you and within you, and a new awareness will be gained. You can begin to ask questions at this time. What is this really about? What would be a way to deal with this that would be okay to all involved? Do I need more information? What could I be doing differently? How do I really want to handle this? Then, you are in a better position to proceed with your next action or non-action whatever you feel most appropriate, beneficial, and right for you. You will be more in control and accepting, and better equipped to deal with the situation in a way you feel comfortable with and that will get better results for all involved.

02.01.2022 You can begin small, begin today - to be the change you would like to see in your suburb, your community, your country, globally.
