24.01.2022 I smell food...

23.01.2022 Oh wow, this sounds yummy and conveniently, I have all the ingredients in my kitchen right now!

21.01.2022 Its been a while since our last post. Its what happens when we allow work and kids to drain all the energy we have in a day BEFORE the end of the day. BUT we are still alive and cooking whenever we can and when the occasional social events our tight schedule allows calls for a "bring-a-plate". The colder months are upon us and so is the craving for hot soupy dishes for dinner ever night (sorry, husband) ... Gotta love soup. Give me a bowl of beef pho or soto ayam anytime!! ... While we dont have any new food porn of ours to share this time, we DO really want you to check out this EXCELLENT blog by a friend of mine who had gone to study how to make good food that looks good, has a flair and passion for feeding people and is now an accomplished SAHM who whips up amazing meals for her family every single day. Her recipes are practically fool-proof and her love for good food spans across many cuisines so youll surely find something you like enough to add to your Favourites tab. If you dont know what to make for your party this weekend, pick something from here ... Enjoy! http://www.narny.blogspot.com.au/

And we all know, no festival would be complete without food! With more than 15 participating restaurants, satisfy your cravings all at once! Fiesta Malaysia serves as a platform to promote the diverse culture, cuisine, art, history and also tourism of the Malaysian community to Australians and international communities wi...thin Victoria. The program line-up includes cultural performances, batik-painting demonstration and competitions such as instant noodle SLLRRRP-ING challenge and DURIAN eating challenge!!! Sounds like something you dont want to miss. The wet weather aint gonna stop us coming! https://www.facebook.com/events/795308717218815/

20.01.2022 Very tender oyster sauce eye fillet stir fry with rice noodles. Delish!

19.01.2022 I love these swiss rolls and wish I am patient enough to make them this beautiful (the rolling part is where I fail). This is so creative and beautiful, making me crave for a slice. Id say Judy Huynh may be a good candidate for this challenge. I love batik prints.

17.01.2022 Join me at the Caulfield Primary School fete for the fourth (and probably, last) time today. We are again selling lamb, beef and chicken satay at $2 each - no minimum order - with peanut sauce and cucumbers on the side. Weve also got our amazing cake stall, crepes, Dutch pancakes, yakisoba, mango icy poles (homemade from fresh mangoes!), bike & blend your own smoothies, wine, coffee, sausage stand and more! Kids will have a wide range of fun activities with animal farm, karaoke, rides, art and crafts, face painting, games, lucky dips, second-hand toys and books etc.... Head on down!

17.01.2022 Know your soya sauce...

15.01.2022 Lemon custard tart topped with lemon chocolate sauce and crushed peanuts, mixed fruit platter drizzled with Leon chocolate sauce

15.01.2022 Didnt know what to do with a quarter chicken... and then, ingredients familiar to a dish popped out of the fridge. I love my Uyghur food; the spicier, the better. But since its Ramadan, Id be kind to the empty stomachs devouring this dish and keep the heat down. The picture does not do justice to the dish, but the dish traditionally is not about looks but more about warmth, love and comfort. This is my take on Tohukordak, Uyghurs big plate chicken dish (sans dried chillies or szechuan pepper) with shell pasta instead of homemade pulled noodles (maybe next time).

12.01.2022 We had lontong yesterday. Cooked a portion just for the three of us. A quiet dinner after a weekend of visiting friends and feasting. You would often see lontong served during Eid but strangely this year, those we visited had everything else but. Heres the humble vege (some refer to as) curry served with packed rice cakes and a sprinkle of serondeng (spiced grated coconut). Comfort food that reminds me of mums cooking. Happy Eid to all our Muslim friends and followers!

12.01.2022 Something to look forward to once the weather sorts itself out ... https://www.facebook.com/events/1640819892801519/

11.01.2022 My homemade Chinese herbal concoction for my cough. Better than pink syrups in bottles because its au naturale. Chinese herbs have great medicinal values, not only for sick people (like me), also for keeping your bods healthy. They can also be cooked in your meals. Just ask us for a lesson.

10.01.2022 Im not sure why this is called ABC soup. But Im sure its best for a cold day. Chicken consomm with onion, root veggies, tomato and corn.

10.01.2022 Great!! Now we FINALLY know what makes Indian food so yummy!!! Didnt we always tell you?! ;) http://www.washingtonpost.com//a-scientific-explanation-/

08.01.2022 Stay dry and entertained while surrounded by amazing food stalls. Flavour galore!

08.01.2022 Cold weather calls for a hot pot- smoked oysters, scallops, tofu, bonito flakes, mushrooms, noodles, Wong bok cabbage.

07.01.2022 Great news for vegans and vegetarians. You can dish up all those Malay and nyonya recipes without skipping that all-important flavour-defining pungent powder/paste. Available at Frozen Smart shop in Springvale.

05.01.2022 Tonights dinner-cum-AGM ... homemade beef murtabak :)

05.01.2022 Fancy some authentic Indonesian satay, crafts and cultural performances this Mothers Day weekend? Head on down to Box Hill Town Hall this Sunday 11am to 8pm.

03.01.2022 For those interested. The halal food expo is on tomorrow!

02.01.2022 On a short trip to visit family. Here are some of the local favourites I tucked into in good company.

02.01.2022 All the good stuff going into the laksa paste ... some tummies are going to be happy :)

01.01.2022 Had to try this restaurant today as my friends had raved about it. Menu is originally Thai with some fusion. My dishes were kingfish sashimi, egg fried rice and wagyu beef in jungle curry. Not too bad, but Im sure I can break the code of the recipes, and so I can share with everyone who want to replicate it at home. Best dish for me is the kingfish sashimi- drizzled with fresh lime juice, chopped basil and dotted with coconut cream. Very refreshing, try it

01.01.2022 We sold over 600 sticks of satay at the CPS fete yesterday. Such a successful and wonderful event, we and met many lovely people who were new and "regular" customers of our stall from previous years. Best compliment we got has to be "Your satay reminds me so much of Satay Club", from a Dutch-Australian who lived in Singapore for over a year in 2000. The Satay Club during her time was at Clarke Quay (there were a number of relocation). It was an open-air, hawker centre serving... mainly satay, grilled seafood and chicken wings, and a popular spot for both tourists and locals. Some of the best satays in Singapore were, in fact, served at Satay Club. So for ours to take someone back to those days, its a good indication we have succeeded to share a little bit of something good from Singapore to everyone.
