25.01.2022 HARVEST Dinner tonight... corn, beans and gem squash. If you take a peek to see if the corn is ready be prepared for the harlequin bugs to move in. They are otherwise known as push me pull me bugs due to the way they join to each other! Also the Monarch caterpillars have devoured the swan bush plants. Chrysalis should start to show up in places now will you least expect them.
23.01.2022 SWAN BUSH SEED The hungry Monarch butterfly caterpillars have finished munching their way through the plants and now the plants have set seed. I manage to salvage a lot of seeds before the rains came. Message me if you would like to collect some.
19.01.2022 The joy of cooking and baking on a summery Sunday morning, despite it feeling like winter! The garden is abundant with beautiful fruit and vegetables. Feels like I’m in Tuscany
18.01.2022 I’d like to share with you a picture from the garden. This is a wonderful representation of the difference between a male and female flower on a zucchini plant. If you’re starting out in gardening you might not be aware of the difference... but I’m sure when you have a look you’ll be able to distinguish their anatomy easily! The female flower, once pollinated by the help of insects, will produce the fruit. If you are keen you can also fertilise the plants yourself by taking the male flower and inserting in the female flower. Yes the birds and the bees explained right there I’ve also included a picture of what Gem squash looks like.
16.01.2022 A delicious healthy breakfast using seasonal fruits from the garden. Peach, apple, pear, nashi pear, strawberries and nectarine with pot set Greek yogurt and a drizzle of honey from my friends hive. Perfection.
13.01.2022 A beautiful and peaceful time of the morning to be in the garden, beating the heat of the day. Sometimes it’s so important just to sit, be still and observe the beauty of nature going on around you. Sunflowers brighten any day. Last year I planted some swan bush and now the Monarch butterfly caterpillars have come to feast on the leaves. The corn is ripening and the grapes are turning plump and changing colour. Plus I found a use for that clothes rack! Have a great day
13.01.2022 GRAPES AND POWDERY MILDEW My accidental experiment! I’m very surprised at how the bags have not only kept the birds from devouring my grapes... but seem to be a measure in controlling powdery mildew! Thoughts?
12.01.2022 Let’s hope it’s a growing trend. So much of our backyards can be used to produce food... we can all remember our grandparents food gardens.

07.01.2022 JUICING - Thy daily juice... a great way to kick start your healthy eating plan and use beautiful organic produce from the garden. Beetroot... carrot... kale.. parsley.. celery with orange juice. Add some ginger for extra zing. Sip it slowly and mix with the saliva enzymes in your mouth to get the maximum nutritional value. What juice do you make? https://blenderauthority.com/best-nutribullet-recipes/
03.01.2022 FRUIT AND VEG NETTING BAGS - time to cover up. Rather than using one large piece of netting, this is another good option for the home gardener. These bags serve to protect fruit from birds and other creatures keen to devour your crops. When you are ordering them just make sure you check that you have the right size that you want, as they do vary. They should all be reusable.
