23.01.2022 As you can tell, I love to incorporate foliage colour and contrasting textures when designing with plants. I have a soft spot for herbs, fruit trees and vegetables because its just so rewarding to grow your own produce!
22.01.2022 Some of the lawn maintenance team. Cute, friendly and loads of personality! Love Chinese geese!
20.01.2022 Love this beautiful flowering ground cover: Clematis Sweet Hart. Easy to look after, spreading habit, always green, flowers late winter through spring. Great filler in garden beds. Stunning grown as a cascading plant in pots, hanging baskets, green walls or over retaining walls. Not a climber like other Clematis but can be attached to a frame. Pictured between espaliered Gardenias. #springfloweringplants, #floweringgroundcovers, #melbournegardensinspring, #mayegillgardens
20.01.2022 Try growing something different Cape Gooseberries (Physalis peruviana - from Peru) are easy to grow and have a unique, sweet and moreish flavour. Their cute, lantern-like packaging hides them from birds and insects so you can enjoy the unspoiled fruit inside! Use them in fruit salads, sorbets, jams, dipped in chocolate or roasted for a sauce. I like eating mine straight off the bush! For awesome recipes check out https://food52.com//7983-cape-gooseberry-the-berry-that-de
19.01.2022 Missing my official berry pickers... So much quicker when you have the niece and nephew helping you harvest! #growyourownproduce
14.01.2022 Pest management in the greenhouse
09.01.2022 Have heaps of cumquats ripening at the moment? Dont let them rot on the tree. Make your own delicious cumquat brandy and it will be ready for Christmas. Its quick and easy. Follow Maggies recipe: http://www.geniuskitchen.com//maggies-lethal-kumquat-lique... Get creative over winter and decorate cute little gift bottles (available at variety stores or places like The Reject Shop). When Christmas shopping time comes, youre already sorted! As a bonus, enjoy the brandy-soaked cumquats dipped in melted dark chocolate! YUM!
09.01.2022 Aphids? Whitefly? Mites? Check out my awesome gardening crew at the moment. They may look creepy but these spiky ladybird larvae are eating my aphids, whitefly, mites and other soft-bodied insects. I even have more fungus-eating ladybirds this year (the yellow ones) eating the powdery mildew from my apple trees. Check out the pupal stage - looks very similar to an adult. 07.01.2022 Grow your own produce so you can make delicious sorbets for hot days like today! Easy and no fuss. Made this in a few minutes from the excess blackberries and plums in my garden. Serve with Farmhouse vanilla yogurt and fresh fruit. 3 INGREDIENTS: 1 kg fruit, 1/3 cup water and 1/2 cup caster sugar.... SORBET: 1. Chop up about a kg of whatever fresh fruit combo you like, place into freezer bags & freeze for at least 4 hrs. 2. Combine 1/3 cup water with 1/2 cup caster sugar, bring to simmer and stir until sugar dissolves. Let cool completely. 3. Process frozen fruit in food processor then add syrup and process until smooth. 4. Freeze in plastic container for 6 hrs. Eat!

03.01.2022 Love it when nature does the work for you! Check out this Fungus-eating Ladybird (Illeis galbula) consuming the powdery mildew on my oregano. You can sometimes find it on zucchini, dahlias and roses as well as other mildew-prone plants. #funguseatingladybird #beneficialinsects #naturalpowderymildewcontrol #horticulturalconsultantmelbourne #melbournegardens
01.01.2022 My native Tasmanian mountain peppers (Tasmannia lanceolata) are getting closer to harvesting! They are so much tastier than traditional black pepper. If you want to grow them, youll need a male and a female. http://www.atasteofthebush.com.au//herbs-and-sp/70906-jpg/
