16.01.2022 REGIONAL LOCKDOWN - DAY 1 This is the scene right now on Indian Ocean Drive just south of the Military Road with police, SES and army personnel manning up a che...ckpoint to ensure motorists adhere to the intrastate movement restrictions introduced this week. Indian Ocean Drive is the main road from Lancelin to Perth (and vice versa) and this morning police were stopping every vehicle on the road. These measures are in place indefinitely and from this mornings observations, it appears that everyone was complying with the new regulations.

16.01.2022 EDWARDS ISLAND VEHICLE ACCESS VOTE ON TUESDAY Some weeks ago the shire asked for public responses to their plan to outlaw vehicles on the beach at the Edwards I...sland Point. Remember, vehicles have been allowed on that section of the beach since they were invented. That aside, the shire announced the plans to discontinue that practice and asked you to comment. If you go to page 33 below, you'll see the shire received 113 different written responses. 101 of the individual responses were against the closure of the beach, 12 were in favour although it should be noted that a number of people copied one of 3 responses supporting it's closure and submitted that. The end result is a whopping majority in favour of keeping the beach open, 71+%!. And the responders weren't just locals. Indeed many of those who took the time to write were visitors to the town, visitors who bring in money, who support the local businesses, who go back and tell others, they market Lancelin to their friends and at no cost to Lancelin! They are VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE. Come Tuesday the councillors, armed with that information will vote on the matter. There is great concern in Lancelin that the councillors will simply ignore the public's wishes and toe the shire line. We will know if that's the case on Tuesday evening. And if they do side with the shire as opposed to mirroring the public's wishes, there will be no more (legal) driving on that part of our coast. See the list of responses on page 33 - https://www.gingin.wa.gov.au//agenda-ordinary-meeting-of-c

15.01.2022 Western Australia has done an incredible job and we thank the WA community for doing their part and taking COVID-19 seriously. WAs recent low numbers have been... very encouraging. They give us the best chance to minimise community spread of the virus, if everyone continues to act responsibly and follow the advice. As of tomorrow, health advice is that we can now cautiously relax the number for indoor and outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 10 people, while practising social distancing. The following activities can now recommence, while following the health advice: Hiking, camping, boating, recreational fishing and picnics within your region Weddings Outdoor personal training (no sharing equipment) Open houses and display home villages Playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment will remain closed. Restaurants, cafs, food vans, food courts and road houses remain restricted to takeaway and home delivery. All other restrictions will remain in place for now, in a bid to manage social distancing and better protect Western Australians. Todays announcement does not mean that people can have parties with large numbers or flock to popular outdoor spots. Were relaxing some restrictions to ensure families and friends can stay connected. While WAs current low numbers are pleasing, we need to be aware that transmission of the virus is a very high risk and there is no reason to be complacent. The best way to keep yourself and others safe remains to practise social distancing and at stay home other than for essential activities and connecting with others to maintain your mental health. Its important that people continue to avoid unnecessary touching like hugs and handshakes, try to keep 1.5m away from others, and maintain good hygiene and handwashing. Police will continue to ensure compliance with all COVID-19 restrictions. If you suspect someone is breaching gathering restrictions, a requirement to self-isolate, or a business is not complying with restrictions, contact WA Police on 131 444. For more COVID-19 information visit https://www.wa.gov.au//covid-19-coronavirus-community-advi

14.01.2022 Weve just released our roadmap to carefully ease COVID-19 restrictions to start getting Western Australians back to work safely and begin the process of re-sta...rting the States economy. This plan includes specific details on the next phase of easing restrictions in WA which will take effect on Monday 18 May. Western Australia has already implemented many of the changes announced by the Prime Minister on Friday. We have led the way, and other States have looked to us for guidance on the way forward. Our strong performance in controlling the spread of COVID-19 means we will continue to lead the nation when it comes to easing restrictions. Our plan has been developed in conjunction with the National Cabinet framework and is based on the best health advice for Western Australia. Phase 1 is already in place following the cautious relaxing of some restrictions from Monday, 27 April. Phase 2 will focus on encouraging many Western Australians to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable, so the WA economy can further rebuild in a safe and measured way. The new phase will come into effect from Monday, 18 May, giving businesses and families time to plan accordingly and includes: - Indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings lifted to 20 people; - People are encouraged to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable; - Cafs and restaurants can reopen with meal service (including within pubs, bars, clubs, hotels and casino), limited to 20 patrons and the 4 square metre per person capacity rule applied; - Weddings and funerals, limited to up to 20 attendees indoors or 30 outdoors; - Places of worship, community facilities and libraries to re-open, limited to 20 patrons; - Community sports (non-contact) limited to 20 people; - Outdoor or indoor fitness classes (minimal shared equipment) limited to 20 patrons; - Public swimming pools can open under strict rules (one indoor pool and one outdoor pool), limited to 20 patrons per pool. If businesses or premises want to reopen in line with these changes, they will be required to complete an official COVID Safety Plan. More details on this will be released shortly, in consultation with industry. As part of Phase 2, regional travel restrictions will also change, bringing the number of current borders within WA from 13 to only four (not including the Commonwealth Biosecurity zone and remote communities). The new regional boundaries will allow: - Travel between the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Perth and Peel regions; - Travel between the Mid-West, Gascoyne and Pilbara regions (excluding Biosecurity area); - Travel within the Goldfields-Esperance region (excluding the Biosecurity area); - Travel permitted within the Kimberley Local Government areas (the Biosecurity area remains in place). Following this change, it is expected that Phase 3 will be implemented around four weeks from the commencement of Phase 2. Phase 3 will be finalised in the coming weeks, based on the advice from the Chief Health Officer, and will take into account the infection rates across WA. Phase 3 will focus on continuing to build stronger links within the community and include further resumption of commercial and recreational activities, and may include: - Further increases in number of people allowed at indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings; - Possible further relaxation of regional travel restrictions; - Restrictions further relaxed for gyms, health clubs and indoor sport centres; - Contact community sport (indoor and outdoor) permitted, with gathering limits; - Beauty therapy and personal care services permitted; - Auction houses and real estate auctions (not just online as it is currently); and - Public playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, skate parks, zoos, cinemas, galleries, museums and concert venues permitted to open, with gathering limits. Phase 4 and further future easing of restrictions will be assessed and finalised in due course. Western Australias hard border with the rest of Australia will remain in place, and is expected to be among the final restrictions lifted. For more information on this roadmap and the easing of restrictions, please visit www.wa.gov.au

10.01.2022 COUNCIL URGES RESIDENTS TO COME HOME NOW AND REQUESTS NON-RESIDENTS TO GO HOME The Shire of Exmouth has been very clear of late that our single most important... objective is the safety and wellbeing of our Local Community. Yesterday we asked all travellers to re-think their need to visit Exmouth during this Pandemic Crisis. So far, it seems that the message hasnt got through as the level of holiday bookings starts to outweigh the cancellations. Exmouth, and the Ningaloo Region, is one of the most welcoming holiday destinations in existence and most certainly will be again on the other side of this unprecedented emergency, but right now, we can not cater for ANY visitors. Today, the Council is calling on the State Government to fast track proposals restricting travel within regions, and to go the extra step, requiring non-locals to head home. Our small remote town is not only ill-equipped to handle the spread of COVID-19 if the virus presents, but is absolutely incapable of supporting any more people than our local population. THE CLEAR MESSAGE WE ARE TRYING TO SEND IS THIS: The best place to ride out this crazy time is close to your home. We absolutely want locals to come home, but are requesting all non-locals to go home. For those travellers with no home, we recommend being close to major regional centres or cities that are better resourced to welcome you, both from a health and a supply point of view. Local Government is trying its best to support our community, but we need the State Government to help us in our efforts. If you are still thinking of hooking up the caravan, and heading to our region to Ride this out, we ask with all sincerity PLEASE DONT. Our supermarket is not coping due to warehouse shortages and rationing, and our community relies heavily on our local IGAs ability to source enough grocery supplies to sustain our very small population. We do not have the luxury of going to the next suburb if our local supermarket is low on stock. Our closest suburb is 360km away. We absolutely understand the devastating blow this is to the Resorts, Caravan Parks and Holiday Homes within our town, and are hoping that they, as an integral part of our community will support councils position, accept cancellations, reject new bookings and work with affected travellers by refunding or re-scheduling holiday plans. Council is united in this position and is taking this drastic step solely for the well-being of our community.
