21.01.2022 I'm now full for custom orders again. I work off those who are first to pay their deposit, get priority. Those whom have been sent invoices and not yet paid, it is up to you if you wish to pay now but wait for my next opening for me to commence your order/s, or wait until I have another opening and pay then if you still wish to proceed. I'm sorry, but I am a one man operation from home and cannot take on more than I can physically accomplish within reasonable timeframes. On...ce I'm nearing completion of my current workload, I'll message you to see if you still want your order/s completed. Thanks

20.01.2022 Progress pics from the Boquet Wrap & Garter. In leather work we use what is called a Swivel Knife to carve artwork into leather, then I do what's called bevelling the cuts then use a modelling spoon to smooth everything out and blend my lines and bevelling to give it the 3 dimensional effect. The dyeing process is the most tedious task using a very fine #1 paintbrush for around the artwork and letter then a dauber and sponge for the larger areas. ... Painting is done using an acrylic leather paint then a sealer is applied and let cure for 12/24 hours then another type of dying technique called "Antiquing" is gentpy wiped over the top of the entire piece then wiped straight off using a wet sponge and paper towel. This is what really makes the artwork POP, as it fills the cuts with a darker dye giving a final shadow/ 3D effect, then another 2 coats of sealer are applied and let cure for another 13/24 hours. Once dry I then punch my stitch holes, hand stitch then I burnish the edges to give them a smooth and shiny finish. Once all done, I give a light buff with a wax/oil. I hope to do many more of these, as it brings me so much happiness knowing I am making someone's special day unique

02.01.2022 Did you know I also do repair work as well!! This cute tote bag was in need of new handle tabs. 02.01.2022 Another custom order finished and delivered 100% Handmade, custom knife pouch belt using all Aussie, quality natural vegetable tanned leather!!! THE PROCESS:... The main (Front) part of the belt is a 4mm natural veg and lined (back) with a 1mm natural veg leather and the pouch is a 2.5mm natural veg leather. I begin with cutting my belt lengths using an hand strap cutter. Once the belt length has been cut, the leather is then cased (dampened with water) then I stamp or carve any designs or initials etc Required, then leave to dry. Once the leather is 90% dry, it is then oiled and hand dyed. In this case in a rich medium brown. I repeat this process until I have reached the desired colour. Once I have achieved the desired colour on all components, I give one last light oil and let dry overnight. I then give a hard buff with a course paper towel to remove any excess dye, then I glue the liner to the flesh side of the main body of the belt, which is then trimmed, bevelled front and back, all holes punched (including stitching holes), edges sanded and then finally sealed with an acrylic Matte finish. Once the sealer has been applied, it is then left to sit for 12 to 24 hours to cure/set. Snaps are then attached to the pouch, and everything is stitched together using 0.8mm nylon waxed thread and two needles. This is known as the Saddlers Stitch, which is used for its impeccable strength and durability. Once the stitching has been done, the edges are then sanded, smoothed and buffed with a process called Burnishing, where I use water and a hardwood wheel on a bench sander to bind and lay the leather fibres (fuzzy bits) down so they are smooth and seamless. I then rub natural beeswax along the edges and run it through the Burnishing wheel again to give a high gloss finish to the edges. I sometimes use a piece of old canvas or roo leather to buff also. The final steps are to attach the keeper and the buckle, which are fixed into place with two stainless steel chicago screws. As you can read, there is an awful lot of work and time that goes into making your precious leather product, but I absalutely love what I do and enjoy making something that is completely unique and special If you would like to place an order for something custom made, please send me a PM to be put on my custom orders list In the meantime, please visit the website to see what I have ready to ship and maybe treat yourself or a loved one to a one of a kind gift www.kitnkaboodle.com.au
