25.01.2022 This great photo was taken at Treasure Boxes on Monday.

24.01.2022 Glenelg Club had another Bunnings barbecue day on Sunday 28th March which was a beautiful day, not too hot not too cold, and plenty of happy customers. All profits are going to helping children. #KidsNeedKiwanis - thanks to all club members for volunteering their time, either on the day of the barbecue or the day before with prep work (cutting sausages and putting serviettes between slices of bread) and slicing 15 kgs of onions. Team work at its best!

24.01.2022 Glenelg Club members continue to deliver the City of Holdfast Bay Kerbside Collection Calendars for 2021 plus the Fridge Magnets to show people which bins to use. Here are a few photos of members doing this - there are over 18,000 letterboxes to deliver to but we are well and truly over half way there. We have quite a big team doing this job.

23.01.2022 ....and we're back to it in 2021. Today's Bunnings Barbecue at Marion went well, perfect weather really. Thanks to all who worked across 3 shifts and most are shown here in today's photos.

23.01.2022 Club members, Dave Cook and Helen Blakebrough, plus Judy volunteered today to help out at Puddle Jumpers. They did 2 food pick ups and bagged mandarins. Last month our club donated just over $1,000 to Puddle Jumpers to sponsor one of their food drive by's. Here are a couple of photos of Judy and Helen in action.

23.01.2022 The Kiwanis Club of Glenelg congratulates Rikki Cooke, CEO and Founder of Treasure Boxes upon winning the Hunt for a Hero Social Justice Award 2020. It is a well deserved award. Our club looks forward to further supporting Treasure Boxes into 2021.

23.01.2022 We always hold a President's Brunch in mid-January and yesterday it was held at President Alan's home in their lovely garden under marquees. Here are some photos by Peter & Val Symons, Christine Teagle, Faye Limberis and Marilyn Chandler. We had a beautiful morning and stretched a little into the afternoon. Thanks to Helen and Alan and those who were on the organising committee. Also the guys for setting it all up prior and taking down after. Special thanks to Governor Roy Seccafien who read The Kiwanis Objects in Italian after receiving a challenge to do so at our Christmas function - well done Roy!

22.01.2022 It was hot work but we loved the opportunity to volunteer at another Bunnings barbecue, this time back at the Marion store, to raise funds for children. It was one of our biggest days and thanks to all who assisted. Here are some pics:

21.01.2022 We are pleased to announce our inaugural corporate member of the Kiwanis Club of Glenelg. Sheridans Accountants and Financial Planners have operated in Glenelg for over 30 years and help clients with accounting, tax, financial planning, investing, borrowing and anything involving financial decision making. You can check out more details here - www.sheridans.net.au and view their services in the 3 minute video on their website

21.01.2022 In recent times the Kiwanis Club of Glenelg has supported Treasure Boxes with not only a donation but also by collecting required items at each dinner meeting for delivery to them. We also have several club members volunteering to give their time to help in various ways in their warehouse.

20.01.2022 To all club members and guests at meetings - please note that due to the restrictions on hotels and businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, our meetings, when we return, will TEMPORARILY go to Wednesday nights - still at The Junction - as they are not opening for meals on a Monday or Tuesday for the time being. Our first meeting back will be Wednesday, 22nd July. We will ask for definite numbers in the week prior. The hotel will open the room up so it is twice the size that we usually have, and we will be able to place the tables further apart and practice social distancing as required.

19.01.2022 A little more from last night's meeting - it was our Handover night, so some photos of that, where the outgoing President Val Symons is thanked and incoming President Alan Blakebrough is welcomed with his new Board. We had a good guest speaker in Brenton Montgomery from Coast FM, who always mentions our club on his Thursday drive time show 4pm - 6pm.

18.01.2022 Wishing all of our followers a very Merry Christmas - thank you for everything you do to help us to assist children where needed - and there is even more to do out in the community at this time #KidsNeedKiwanis

18.01.2022 Our club has designed, printed and is delivering these fridge magnets to many houses in The Holdfast Bay area. They were designed by our club member Christine Teagle after President-Elect Alan Blakebrough suggested many families could do with the information. Thank you also to Phil and Jo Rogers of LJ Hooker for helping with the cost involved.

17.01.2022 Last night's meeting was a fun but also informative night. Our guest speaker was Olivia Florance from Bennett Legal, a local legal practice. Olivia spoke very well about Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and all that type of necessary thing and answered a lot of questions at the end. She has very good knowledge after 15 years in the field. David Meadows made an announcement about a fund-raising event we have coming up - the Bollywood Night, to be held on 19th June. Here are some photos from our meeting.

16.01.2022 Today some of our members visited Treasure Boxes, where we heard CEO Rikki Cooke (centre of 1st pic) talk about how they provide the necessary items for the disadvantaged newborns, babies and children living in our community. They have a huge warehouse in Edwardstown from where the boxes of goods are distributed. We then enjoyed lunch and a chat at the Avoca Hotel. It was a really nice outing.

16.01.2022 2 new members were inducted into our club last night - we welcome Shirley Skurray and Robert Petchell. Shirley was sponsored by Past President Lois Brice and Trevor Averay and John Heywood sponsored Robert Petchell. They will be great additions to our ranks. Photos by Peter Symons. As our Lt Governor Division 8, Bob Sitters, was unable to be there last night, our Immediate Past President Val Symons inducted Shirley and Rob. We had a large number of members and guests present, and even a Kiwanian from the USA in Todd Hanks attending with his wife, Glenelg club member Yvette Smith, as they are both now residing in Canberra and here on leave. Rob Petchell's wife Gaynor and her mother also attended and we had an appearance from David McNabb, Lt Governor of Division 3 who had initially introduced us to Trevor and John almost a year ago.

15.01.2022 We posted this onto the Australia District fb page, but not our Glenelg Club page. This was last Wednesday night, a combined meeting with 70 attending.

14.01.2022 Coast FM Sponsorship Consultant and Thursday Drive announcer, Brenton Montgomery, was a guest speaker at a recent meeting for our corporate partners, the Kiwani...s Club of Glenelg. Brenton spoke about the history of Coast FM, the genres of music played at the station, how to prepare and present a program on-air and about community radio in South Australia. The Glenelg Kiwanis Club have two members currently enrolled in our Presenters course, Pamela Smith and David Cook. We wish them well and hope to hear them on-air soon. , .

14.01.2022 Glenelg club held it's 2020 Christmas dinner party last night at Club Marion. A great fun night to finish off a very different Kiwanis year. Here are some pics. We had a lot of lovely raffle items, all donated, and a visit from Father Christmas and his Elf, plus some games to play which some took very seriously, especially when asked to build a tower! Here are some photos.

14.01.2022 We had 38 come along to Palace Nova, Prospect yesterday to see the screening of Rams, which was a really good movie. We didn't set out to make a profit (more a social event) but with the $1 raffle bringing in $120.30 and good ticket prices, we did have a profit of $240. Nice, very comfy theatre, plenty of room to spread out, glass of wine or whatever on arrival, and most of us headed for a meal along Prospect Road afterwards. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Thanks to Bel Symons their Events Manager for putting this on for us and here's a pic of Helen who organised the raffle, with Pam, before we headed into the cinema.

13.01.2022 On Monday our club members Mary and Bob Sitters delivered our collection of new underwear and socks for children, to Treasure Boxes - Rikki Cooke, the Founder and CEO of Treasure Boxes has thanked all our members and also friends for donating these items. There are still some more to come too Rikki ! Our club also donated $2,000 to help them put together 57 boxes of clothing for children doing it tough at the moment.

12.01.2022 Today was a special day on #KangarooIsland as 300+ fruit trees donated by Balhannah Nurseries were distributed to gardeners who had lost theirs in summer’s bush...fires. Massive thanks to all the volunteers who helped sort and distribute them to those who came to collect today. The weather was miserable so we were able to be under the cover of this huge agricultural shed. Will share more images tomorrow. #reGrowthGardenRecovery #mypatch #gardeningafterfire ReGrowth Garden Recovery photos thanks to Darren Clements Photography See more

11.01.2022 At our first meeting back since the pandemic restrictions, we were so pleased to induct a new member - Mary Sitters. Mary has been around the club for some 35 years, with her husband Bob having joined back then. She has already been a fantastic supporter of charities like Back Packs 4 SA Kids with her sewing product for them, plus many other very worthwhile causes. We welcome Mary to our fold and look forward to many more years of fund-raising fun with her. Photo of Mary after her induction with husband Bob (Immediate Past Governor Robert Sitters) and Club President Val Symons on right of photo.

10.01.2022 A share from the Kiwanis Australia District Convention 2021 page. Looks like being a great Saturday night :)

09.01.2022 Well, we've done it! After months of not being able to run a Bunnings barbecue due to the pandemic, we are now going to be holding one at their Adelaide Airport store. We have been moved from their Marion store to the Adelaide Airport site and it promises to be a good place to be. Come on down on Sunday, 9th August (9am to 4pm) and support us and our fund-raising for a very good cause and pop into the Bunnings store and see their lovely garden section or purchase something great that you've always needed for your house or garden. Plenty of parking. Thank you Bunnings for the support you give all the charities out there, especially at this time.

09.01.2022 At Kiwanis Glenelg last night we had a great meeting. Lots to talk about, including a terrific different way for us to have some fund raising come into our club later in November (more soon). Our guest speaker was Rikki Cooke, Founder and CEO of Treasure Boxes and we also had Robyn Stehbens, daughter of Dean Maddaford, who attended to receive the Memorial Fellowship Award in Loving Memory of Dean Maddaford, who was our club's Charter President and who passed away on 7th May 2020.

09.01.2022 We are looking forward to our Christmas dinner at Club Marion, see the event flyer here. If you are coming, after letting Secretary Marilyn know, please note that as usual we are dressing very Christmassy - red, green, silver, gold, and we don't mind crazy.... there is a prize for best female and best male outfit. We are also advising that we will be taking collections for Treasure Boxes on the night as well - whist they are not taking any further clothing for the year, things like disposable nappies are very much needed, and also new jocks and socks for children and specifically books and games for teens (aged 12-16) would be fabulous. No need to wrap these as we would like to see what has been collected. Many thanks in advance.

08.01.2022 Bunnings sausage sizzle today and here are pics of our volunteers at work.......we divided them into different shifts, 3 in all. We had a good day, with changed conditions due to very very strict social distancing rules put in place (for everybody's good), and had a good day sales wise. Another big change for us was finally embracing technology and buying the necessary equipment so we could take card payments. A very easy program to use and everyone really pleased with the results (after almost having a false start and President Val nearly going into melt down).

08.01.2022 MAJOR ENVIRONMENT ANNOUNCEMENT @scottmorrisonmp agrees that our recycling plant will set a revolutionary standard for all councils across Australia. He has... committed a $5.35m funding boost to the construction of our plastic, glass and paper recycling facility. This means that we can expand our vision resulting in significant environmental benefits for the entire southern Adelaide and Fleurieu areas. This will be the flagship of recycling in Australia where our long term vision is that trucks drop off all household rubbish, lasers sort it and then the resources are recycled into new products like road base for councils. We are hoping that with this financial boost we will be operating the sorting mid year! We will be able to process 60,000 tons per year and sort plastic to a 98 % non contamination. We now aim to establish a circular economy industrial hub right next door and populate it with entrepreneurs who can create new products. This has been many years in the planning and hard work by many. Thank you to @cityofmarion @cityofonkaparinga City of Holdfast Bay councillors for your unanimous support, the SWARA board and especially Mark Booth, Cr John Smedley, Cr Clare Lindop, Holdfast Bay CEO Roberto Bria and member for Mayo Rebekah Sharkie. I would also especially like to thank Nicolle Flint MP Nicolle Flint Member for Boothby for her relentless championing of this project, one of the biggest environmental initiatives in this state. 07.01.2022 Bunnings sausage sizzle tomorrow (Sunday) at the Adelaide Airport Bunnings store. Today a group spent a couple of hours at Symons' place interleafing bread slices with serviettes as per new requirements, and cutting the sausages apart as required. All ready, and also now with our new card reader, you don't need to have cash necessarily. Profits go to helping sick or disadvantaged children. Pop in and purchase a sausage sizzle and drink!!

07.01.2022 Our congratulations go to Moorabbin Club who are celebrating 50 years in Kiwanis International - all volunteers raising funds for children - awesome effort - from Glenelg Club

04.01.2022 At our meeting on 23rd September 2020 David Meadows was the recipient of a Legion of Honour Award for his 25 years of voluntary service with Kiwanis, and in particular the Kiwanis Club of Glenelg. Congratulations David. Twice club President, and Director for Division 8 of the Eliminate Project fundraiser, David has put in a lot to help raise funds for children in need. He's also been a great fun person to have around. Here David (on the right in the photo) is presented with the Legion of Honour by District Secretary Peter Zander. Thanks also to Peter Symons for putting together a photographic depiction of David's travels through those 25 years (and the story of his arm affliction!).

04.01.2022 Kiwanis International mourns the passing of Dr. John Button, the 2014-15 Kiwanis International president. During Dr. John’s term he traveled the globe celebrating 100 years of serving the children of the world. Read more: https://bit.ly/3ht5Zuh

03.01.2022 Tonight we are holding our first in person meeting back since Covid restrictions back in March. We will be inducting a new member and welcoming some interesting guests. We do need to know numbers so the function centre can get the room ready. Looking forward to seeing many of you there tonight (some 40 at this stage).

03.01.2022 Happy 7th birthday to Jaxon for 14th October. What an amazing boy, such a fighter!

03.01.2022 At our Kiwanis Glenelg Club meeting last night we inducted another new member, Judy Cook. It is such a great pleasure to have Judy join our ranks. We also had a good guest speaker in Denis Brien, author of the book All the Kings Men, for which he received the Jack Pollard Literary Award. The book teases out the social impacts of cricket in the new colony of South Australia and, in particular, the western suburbs of Adelaide, providing insights into the hardships that the working class endured to play competitive sport. Denis told us about Adelaide in the mid - late 1800's, both with reference to those joining cricket clubs, but also just general information about what it was like living in Adelaide in those early years, and some good photos as well. It was a good night all round. Thanks to those who were able to attend.

01.01.2022 Our guest speaker last night was Greg Pattinson, the CEO of Foodbank SA. He gave us an amazing overall view of the logistical operations of Foodbank and how they distribute food to those without a secure food supply. We also learnt about the operation of their food hubs and their locations and how the food chain from grower and manufacturer to charities and individuals is operated by them.

01.01.2022 To all our club members and followers - wishing you all a Happy New Year and great 2021. We look forward to further improving the lives of children in 2021 and beyond.

01.01.2022 Not only did we have a great meeting last night with 46 attending, and the induction of 2 new members, but we also had another good guest speaker. He’s also a Contributor and Editor of the International Best Seller Get Yourself Back In Motion. He has been a university tutor, involved in major conferences and also a physio at the Commonwealth Games. Max provides presentations to provide a valuable insight to the latest research and knowledge of injury avoidance and management and has a unique and modern way to explain the importance of posture.
