25.01.2022 What a great way to end term! Out Bush with our families, learning about an old rock hole and collecting some bush potatoes. Thank you to everyone for making this a very memorable day.

25.01.2022 Junior Class have been so engaged and working diligently on their recount writing this term. We have had so much fun remembering, talking about and then having a go writing about the different adventures we have had recently, like Dust Up, a bush trip to find maku, our weekends and our play experiences. Our ninti Junior Class students should be so proud of the great oral storytelling and writing they have been doing!

We have played sports, ran races, had a talent show, a disco, fair activities, cultural dancing, traditional fire making, spearing a (cardboard) kangaroo and cat and had so much fun!

17.01.2022 High School and Middle School students went out bush to explore the local animals habitats. We found tracks, poo, feathers and nests! We listened to stories, recorded our discoveries and added to our in class food-web mural. Well done Kiwirrkurra students!

17.01.2022 Junior Class have been learning about the different habitats that animals live in, all around the world! We have learnt that some habitats are hot, some are cold and some even have snow! The students have loved learning about what different animals need in their habitats like food, water and shelter. To showcase their fantastic learning, each student picked an animal and created a habitat for them. We had habitats for snakes, frogs, lions and foxes created and Junior Class are so proud of their hard work, take a look!

13.01.2022 The Middle Class have been learning all about the ants life cycle this week, along with how they adapt to their environment for survival. We have done some amazing work this week and have ended the week going out bush today looking for ants. We found some ants, anthills, a dead lizard, dead bugs, rabbit, camel and dingo scat, and lots more! Some of the students taught Miss Megan about a bush medicine that you can use on your body when you are sore. Keep up the great work, Middle Class!

13.01.2022 On Friday the Kiwirrkurra students, their families and the Kiwirrkurra Rangers went to Tjutalpi. The rangers are working with Kiwirrkurra students on cultural activities in preparation for our mini Dust-Up.

13.01.2022 Today the Junior Class took their maths lesson outside - we have been working on our counting this term AND have been wondering what has changed out bush since our last bush trip a few weeks ago. We went out to the sandhills and were so excited by what we found - and how much there was to count! Dingo tracks, cat tracks, itakati grass, hopping mouse tracks, snake tracks, rumiya tracks and holes, butterflies and a birds nest with 2 eggs in it! The Junior Class also had a go at digging for water in the freshly dried up creek bed and digging for frogs in the sand. It was a great trip and the Junior Class showed what ninti mathematicians and scientists they are.

12.01.2022 Junior Class have had a wonderful start to our Integrated Curriculum this term, around the world! First, we have been looking at the world right around us - in Kiwirrkurra! Last week we jumped on the Junior Class plane to fly around Australia - we have been very impressed with all the cities and towns in Australia we can name and then ‘visit’ through Google Earth. This week we will be ‘flying’ overseas to Indonesia and Junior Class are already thinking about what different animals we will find there, what food they eat and how the children get to school. Have a look at Joan and Derica exploring our Indonesian small world - they told me we needed to make a plane out of LEGO to add as that is how we will get there! Keep up the fantastic learning

01.01.2022 Junior Class are learning all about birds at the moment! We have brainstormed the different birds we know about and then what we know about birds - like that some birds can fly, they have feathers and they lay eggs. We went out for a big walk to see if we could find any nests, feathers, bird tracks, bird scat and what birds we could see and hear. Sometimes we had to sit or stand very quietly so we could hear the bird calls and try to spot the birds in the trees. We saw lots of crows (kaanka), pink and grey cockatoos (kakalyalya) and one willie wagtail. We have been learning about the different parts of a bird and all had a go at drawing our own nyiinyi and labelling the beak, eyes, claws, wing feathers and tail feathers - take a look!
