24.01.2022 Congratulations to Bluebell on her adoption! She’s a happy, outgoing budgie who is enjoying her new home!

22.01.2022 Congratulations to Sonny on his adoption! His family shared this about him... First off I’d like to thank Lisa for giving me the opportunity to adopt Sonny Sonnest the cockatiel. Right from the moment we brought him home he was keen to step up, eat from my hand, and sit on my shoulder. It wasn’t long until he was relaxed enough to start whistling at my whole family, especially my mum who got a shock when Sonny started wolf whistling at her in the kitchen! He wolf whistles ...at everyone that visits us and we all think it’s hilarious! He’s such a friendly little dude and instantly became part of our family. He sits in his cage next to my brother’s lovebird Roxy and they chirp and chat to each other all day while I’m at school. Sonny always flies to my dads head if he’s around because he’s the tallest and he likes being up high. He snuggles with me in bed when I wake up and loves a head scratch. Sonny is an awesome pet and a great mate. Thanks, Will See more

17.01.2022 Three of our rescue galahs went to the studio for the Will and Woody Show on KIIS 101.1 today! Henry and Sassy got cuddles and treats from Will and Woody and thanked them by gnawing on their fingers and ears ! Thank you KIIS 101.1 for the opportunity to come in today and share with you a few of our rescue birds. https://www.kiis1011.com.au//ray-meagher-refuses-to-say-f/

16.01.2022 Come out to Clifton Hill Petstock or Lilydale Petstock to see us at Petstock National Adoption Day!

13.01.2022 The new, larger, temporary enclosure while we wait to pour concrete and get the new enclosure. May take some time because concrete costs as much as the new enclosure and we had a handful of emergency medical tests and procedures with new incoming birds. For now, all the cockys are in one enclosure together which makes them a happier flock. A few have paired up. Joe is snuggling up to Nova. And Peta seems to be liking Bodie.

12.01.2022 Thank you Petstock Lilydale and Clifton Hill for inviting us to participate in Petstock’s National Pet Adoption Day! Thank you to all of our volunteers that helped make it happen!

12.01.2022 We are excited that our Beaks and Feets Parrot Toys box has arrived! We were nominated for a $100 gift card for Beaks and Feets products and we asked for a box of shreddable toys for us to be able to make lots of great toys for all of our many rescue birds. We are excited to get creative and make some great toys! Thank you Beaks and Feets and thank you again to everyone that nominated us!

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Crispin (formerly Chris) on his adoption! His family wanted to share this about him We are very thankful to have Crispin to join our family. He's a gentlemen and very polite. He's not one to discriminate, as he treats us all equally. When he's happy and wants attention, he'll mimic the sound of a person laughing but in reality he sounds like a monkey. What a lucky boy and check out his play area in his new home! That’s fantastic!

09.01.2022 I hear too often people not wanting to adopt because they think there will be more behavioural challenges but this is usually not the case. Yes, they often need extra love, time, and patience to trust again, especially if they were neglected or abused, but this never equates to a bad bird. There’s no such thing. The misconception that purchasing a baby bird from a breeder will reduce challenges, is simply not true. If you purchase a baby, you and your bird can go through be...havioural challenges when it goes through its first hormones. You can also go through challenges if you didn’t know what you were doing and accidentally teach your bird bad behaviours, or if you simply didn’t know how to read bird body language and you kept pushing past your bird telling you no thank you. When you purchase a baby, you also risk your bird outliving you, especially with galahs and cockatoo, and then your bird who you wanted as a baby, that you loved so very much, falls into rescue and becomes a part of the same misconception you believed about other birds in the system. Many rescue birds have been hand raised or have had a loving home at one point and are the sweetest birds you will ever meet. They only want a chance to have that loving home they once experienced. It’s never their fault they lost a home due to becoming a lost and unclaimed bird, or owners passing away, becoming homeless, unwell, lack of interest, life changes, lack of understanding, or the many other reasons they get surrendered. 09.01.2022 Please read all the way through Congratulations to Ellie and Kai on their adoption! Ellie has been with us for over two years. She came in when her owner passed away . Ellie was 7 yrs old. She had some neurological damage when she came in, but we quickly found it didn’t stop her from doing normal lovebird things. However, her disability made her shy. She would hide in the corner when families came to visit, but would be a normal bird when no one was around. Kai came in later ...and he fell in love with Ellie. He fiercely protected her. Outside of the cage, Kai was a happy shoulder bird, but families couldn’t see that, because he would protect her when he saw new people. Now, these two have a beautiful home where they can live out their lives as part of a family. Their new family had this to say about them: Ellie is our special little lady that is starting to love her cuddles and nap time with me. I love watching her becoming more confident everyday and starting to check out her toys. She loves sun baking and cuddling with Kai. Kai is our beautiful, protective little man that loves his Ellie girl so much it’s adorable He loves to sit with us all the time, anyone he’s not fussy very social butterfly. He loves flying around the house and has made himself right at home. We are so very lucky to have these 2 special birds in our lives now, couldn’t imagine life with out them Special need birds can give us just as much love if not more Thank you Lisa for doing such an amazing job with all the rescues If you are going in to rescue, give the rescue a chance to tell you about different birds that may just be shy. Rescues know and can tell you, which ones will be more confident and flourish once they get to know you. You might find that the shy one who doesn’t want to look at you, is the best friend you’ll ever have.

08.01.2022 I’ve had two calls recently of family calling to rehome an aviary of cockatiels due to loved one passing away or entering aged care. If you can help give a few cockatiels a home, let me know. We will want you to have a solid, safe construction aviary on concrete.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Arya and Robyn on their adoption! Their new family said, Robyn and Arya Robyn has made himself at home so quickly and is infatuated with Snowball and never leaves her side. Arya has become more vocal and has now been able to get more strength in her feet which has now given her the confidence to stand on my hand and grip at the same time. I think if she had it her own way, she would constantly be cuddled and carried everywhere with me.... We are forever grateful to Lisa for letting me not only foster her wonderful birds but also introducing us to our new family memebers who instantly stole our hearts Our flock Nibblet, Poppet, Snowball, Robyn and Arya

07.01.2022 We are very excited to be participating in PETstock’s National Pet Adoption Day event Saturday, March 13! We will be at two locations: PETstock Clifton Hill and PETstock Lilydale.

06.01.2022 It comes with a heavy heart that we at Pigeon Rescue Melbourne must let you all know that we will be going on a hiatus indefinitely. During this time we will st...ill be adopting out birds already in care and available for advice but will not be able to take on more birds. We thank all of our supporters and members of the public that have helped save the lives of so many birds, we could not have done it without you all. Yours truly, The Pigeon Rescue Melbourne Team.
