24.01.2022 Do you ever feel like you are drowning in plastic? It’s hard to do anything without plastic being involved in one way or another. It seems to surround us at ...every turn. Just look at the shelves in your local supermarket. Everything is coated and covered in plastic. Even our fruits and vegetables are shrink wrapped, packaged and bagged! The New Plastics Economy details the scale of the packaging waste problem. In 2013, industry produced 78 million metric tons of plastic packaging worldwide. Of that, 40% was landfilled and another 32% was leaked to the environment, polluting land and sea. 268,940 tons are estimated to be floating in Earth’s oceans. Plastic particles are now being found in fish and other seafoods that humans are regularly consuming. Our waterways are so clogged with plastic we are eating our own plastic waste. It's extra disturbing that the plastic industry is actually making money (a lot of money!) from this. This is not just a world problem, but a NZ problem. According to recycle.co.nz, projections show that with current population trends the annual amount of waste disposed to landfills will almost double within 10 years in Auckland alone. If everyone lived like Kiwi’s we would need one and a half worlds to support our rubbish use! When we started out with LilyBee Wrap our intension was to eradicate our own plastic wrap use. We hate plastic wrap. It sticks to itself in a tangled mess, it’s a struggle to rip it properly and every time we used it we would produce more waste, feel guilty and line the pockets of an already inflated corporate industry. When we made our beeswax wraps we knew we needed something that would keep our food as fresh if not fresher than plastic wrap. That meant making our wraps capable of clinging to themselves and to the top of bowls to seal in freshness. After painstaking trial and error and a lot of determination to get our formula right we came up with the recipe we use today (local beeswax, tree resin, organic coconut oil infused into 100% cotton) and as a result our family has used a total of zero plastic wrap since! LilyBee Wrap is so easy any one can use it. simply using the warmth of your hand shape LilyBee around foods and dishes to seal in freshness. Find yours at: https://www.lilybeewrap.com///products/daisy-days-set-of-3 What started as our families journey to a plastic wrap free household has evolved, now over 1000 families across New Zealand are happily using LilyBee Wrap! People always rave about the wraps how well they keep food fresh, how pretty they are, how good they smell and of cores how good it feels to be a plastic free household! There is no question plastic is a big problem. But you can easily make a big difference. Just like our little family making a conscious change to our plastic consumption we have created a ripple effect. LilyBee Wrap has transformed so many families just like yours, and each of the families in turn creating their own ripple effect to others. In the long run creating a tremendous wave of change. Take part. You are the solution. By using LilyBee Wrap you will eradicate the need for single use plastic and help disrupt the billion dollar plastic industry and create a cleaner, healthier, plastic free future. It’s these small changes in our everyday life that change world.
