24.01.2022 Using the drippers with the bees stuck on top, the children squeezed the bees to suck up the ‘Nectar’ to take back to the ‘honey comb hive’ to make ‘honey’ This experience extended from our garden/ spring/ bees/ flowers learning/ interest. This was further developing the children’s fine motor skills Encouraging the children to cross the midline as the used the drippers and moved across to the containers... It supported cognitive thinking, problem solving and concentration (which was much more tricker for children than we might think. Grasping the concept to squeeze once to stuck the water/ yellow food colouring and to squeeze again once to release it. This sparked conversation about bees, pollination, collecting nectar & making honey See more
24.01.2022 A massive thank you to Nathan! One of my dads. He’s a thinker! he saw my new Dino area I started in the dirt pit and wanted to help try fix it! My husband and I started with a drop sheet and concrete. We were going to do another layer to make it more firm/ harder, but Nath Brough Australian Builders 20kg Sand And Cement Mix Bag (from Bunnings!) And came over to help me go over it this arvo! I absolutely love it & the way it has smoothed out the shape of it all better. It lo...oks like it might have worked, we’ll see in the morning if it’s hard enough so I can paint it. It’s going to have a water fall and pond to put actual water in and a working volcano in the middle of the ‘mountains’. Can’t wait to add some plants, paint, Dino’s, water, and make the volcano with bicarb & vinegar!

22.01.2022 BUSH WALKS Prepping for the work week with children or just at home with your own children doesn’t have to be hard and expensive. Getting prepped for work on a Sunday with my 2 boys is so much fun. They go out exploring, collecting sticks leaves and rocks. We put them on the quad to take back home ... They get their gross motor activity in & ask so many questions and find new discoveries! I used them through the week with my boys and my daycare children in actives and experiences. I have some beautiful autumn activities planned that I can’t wait to share with you #ChildLearningPlay #OpenEndedPlay #NatureBasedPlay #reggioinspired

13.01.2022 The more I teach, the more I learn If you haven’t noticed already; 1. I love my job 2. I love spring! ... While learning about all things spring, animals, life cycles, bugs, insects, gardens.. we are drawn to bees Did you know honey bees are the only insect that produces food that humans can costume! We already know that they collect the nectar & pollen from flowers to make honey But I love how important they are to the economy. I didn’t realise how much of a role they play In all of this. When a bee collects nectar and pollen from the flower of a plant, some pollen sticks to the hairs of her body. When she visits the next flower, some of this pollen is rubbed off onto the flower. When this happens, fertilization is possible! Thanks to bees we can enjoy a range of foods from apples, and pears to coffee and vanilla. And if you are wearing cotton, that's because the cotton plant your threads came from was pollinated. Many fruits, such as apples, raspberries and peaches, are more productive, produce better, more attractive fruit and even store better and for longer when they are serviced by honeybees. I took this photo on the weekend while I was outside with my sons in our garden playing/ teaching. This was a perfect photo of how they store the nectar in a second stomach, sometimes called a honey stomach, that doesn't digest nectar. I was so excited to capture this and be able to zoom in and show my sons/ daycare kids close up!
12.01.2022 Simplicity & beauty Perfect weather for developing our fine motor skills; using the spray bottles to wet/ melt the frozen flowers. Exploring the cause and effect of water/ salt melting ice. Discovering what’s inside & using our sensory skills, touch, sight & smell
12.01.2022 S H A D O W D R A W I N G Making the most of this beautiful spring weather, I hung some flowers & leaves above with the clipboards underneath to look at cause & effect, patterns, shapes, scaffolding our knowledge & understanding of representational drawings, while allowing the experience to still be open ended to aspire their own creativity. We first used crayons and then used another medium of paint in our new wooden pallet. Developing strength in our hand, fine muscles with the crayons & exploring sensory development using our fingers to paint!
12.01.2022 Engaging our sensory skills; sight, touch, smell... and a little taste (supervised & not shared. Easy to allow the children to explore & taste in a small group setting & ensure hygiene ) Supporting our fine motor development; using the tongs, scoops & juicer to also discover cause & effect: when we push/ twist... we make juice! The girls stayed playing, splashing, creating, discovering & investigating nearly all morning outside in this beautiful weather. ... It made for great conversation; talking about what they were doing/ making, what they could see; oranges, lemons, counting, colours and more!
11.01.2022 DINO AREA I had some people asking how I made this. I placed plant pots, a witches hat and tyre where I wanted in my dirt pit... my hubby kept a plant pot facing up and cut the side and leant it down. This how we made the ‘waterfall’ the witches hat is the ‘volcano’ we laid the drop sheet over top and crinkled it for the textured effect we then concreted over top of the drop sheet. We added a few layers when it was dry I would like to paint it.. if I get time soon But I’ve been so happy with how it turned out and the children love It. It’s played with all the time & it’s great it’s a permanent area to the outdoor environment. The ‘lake’ in the Tyre is blue food colouring, water and a little milk.
11.01.2022 Can you water the flowers? Using the spray bottles to develop our fine motor skills, hand eye coordination to ‘water the flowers’. #diyactivities #learningthroughplay #toddleractivities #sensoryplay #springactivitiesforkids #gardenplay #outdoorplay #finemotoractivity

09.01.2022 C A N Y O U M A K E A S U N F L O W E R? I would have to say, I’ve found the thermo makes the best play dough! I’ll put a pic in the comments below of the recipe. We just added yellow food colouring to the play dough before it mixed/ cooked it in the thermo and it turned out perfectly. ... We just used pearl barley (from Woolworths) and, kebab sticks & black rocks. This open- ended experience we made sunflowers, yellow balls, cakes, bananas, faces and more! We also talked about the letters we saw on the tuff tray. The children stayed outside with this for ages!
08.01.2022 DIY road pieces! the piece of wood was from Bunnings. At the back of the shop, I looked for the long pieces & someone cuts it for you. I just found one I liked and one of the cheaper ones. Nothing too special. They cut them into 1 metre pieces. Then I asked a friend to cut them into smaller pieces/ different sizes for me ... I then painted them all black with just paint from Bunnings & a roller. ( I just asked for a small tin to paint pieces of wood & a small tin of white paint too.) Once the black was dry I got painters tape to line up straight lines to paint the white lines down the centre the children love piecing together their own road, using the tyres for hills, making all different patterns and tracks. They put them on the woodchips, take them to the dirt pit or on the grass.

05.01.2022 I’ve finished one lantern today (we started last week) These will be the children’s Christmas presents. They could be used as a night light or bring them outside in the garden. (Bring them in tho. The weather/ rain will ruin them) I thought I would share Incase any mums/ educators on my page would like to make them. ... Here’s what I used: Tissue paper: You can try any color, but we used white. Elmers Glue-All We used this type of crafting glue. Balloons i think coloured balloons work best- u can see where you have added a layer better. The white balloons made it all blend it too much. Paint brush i just used a normal paint brush A bowl to place your balloon in when gluing Flameless tea light- just found these battery operated lights at the reject shop a pack of 6 for maybe a couple of dollars I think it was Water/ spray cooking oil. Leaves & flowers! I took my sons out in the motor bike/ Quad on the weekend and headed down to the bush to collect leaves and flowers of all different shapes and sizes. Step 1: Search for some beautiful fall leaves! We looked for leaves of all different colors, shapes, and sizes! Step 2: Now set up your lantern making station. We set up our area with our supplies and got right to work. Step 3: For the first layer of covering, we just used plain water without glue. Dip the tissue paper right in the water and start a single layer without glue. This will help the balloon peel off the inner layer of tissue paper when you pop it later. I’ve also tried some balloons with cooking oil spray to see if that works better. I’ll edit this post if it works out better! ** edit- this was the best result! The balloons came off so well with spraying cooking oil over them instead of using water. Step 4: Now add another layer of tissue paper, but this time add the glue mixture on top of the first layer of tissue. You can start to add leaves after you have your second complete layer of tissue paper on your balloon. I covered most of the leaves with a single layer of tissue paper just to make sure they wouldn’t budge. I was a little nervous that the leaves would fall off since some of them were so heavy, but they are secure and look beautiful! There are a couple of small leaves on the lantern that I did not cover with tissue paper and they dried nicely and are still stuck to the lantern. I suggest four layers of tissue paper at most, but we stopped at three layers to allow for more light to shine through the lanterns. Step 6: Pop the balloons. This is always a fun process! I used a sharp knife to pop the balloons. The balloon popped right out and the lantern looked awesome! Just peel off any balloon still stuck inside. I like my lanterns rough looking at the top. You could always cut them so they are straight across at the top. Depends on what look you want to achieve It looked so beautiful when it was lit with the flameless candles!
