24.01.2022 ATO are currently conducting audits and reviewing instances where common law employees are being treated incorrectly as contractors. Having an Australian Business Number (ABN) does not automatically make you a contractor. Generally speaking, contractors are paid for the results they achieve rather than the time they work. They also do not normally have to work during hours set by an agreement or award, and the employer does not provide them with the tools to do their work or... direct their work. You can contact me for help in working out if you are an employee or a contractor. If you have been disadvantaged by sham contracting arrangements or pressured to obtain an ABN you are not eligible for, you can report these unfair practices by phoning the ATO on 1800 060 062.

15.01.2022 My last three weeks haven't been the most productive, rather they reminded me of a car spinning the wheels super fast but still being in the same spot... I am s...ure it might sound familiar for many of you... As an accountant, I get contacted all the time by clients with questions about the government support available and any help out there. Yes, some clients lost their job already, some have a business that had to close their doors, and bigger majority is just ANTICIPATING the doomed future and taking action correlated to how the world OCCURS. There are a lot of WORDS out there that CREATE the world of chaos and panic and this is how the world OCCURS - the future is uncertain. And I had to remind myself - this is still NOT the REALITY out there. The future hasn't happened yet and only I can create what will happen in my future. Yes, undeniably our life has changed in the face of COVID-19. In other words "the rules of our game called LIFE have changed". And we can still continue playing by these NEW RULES and we can totally win! No one said "you must shut down and game is over for you" because you are not dead yet. If no one has told you that yet, I will - #youareunstoppable! This is the new rule that I am taking on in this game called life - #iamunstoppable. JobSeeker is a dole for individuals in need and JobKeeper is a dole for business in need. In this game called LIFE, please do not start limping just so that you can get a small reward of a dole, keep walking! Keep running! We all now know that the safety net is there (JobSeeker and JobKeeper), but I ask you, do not put thinking and effort to demonstrate your business contracts and limps or you will start contracting and limping from just pretending and you will miss out on a much bigger reward if you simply continue striving for profits. First of all stop participating in the agreement of FEAR as it creates panic and chaos (immediately stop using WORDS that paint the picture of panic and chaos for yourself and others, eg stress, worry, bad, loss, etc). Start using words that INSPIRE you to contribute to others, to provide for your family or to make a difference out there. I promise you, we can still win the game and strive on our own! This is our opportunity to BE CREATIVE and BE FLEXIBLE, to BE A LEADER in your business and in your community. BE IN COMMUNICATION with your customers, employers, employees. BE UNSTOPPABLE. The safety net will be there so as much as you can, keep playing the game called life to the fullest. I know we all can win it! #youareunstoppable See more

09.01.2022 ATO SCAM WARNING A client of mine has just reported to me having received a phone call from callers claiming to be from the ATO and demanding thousands of dollars for the tax fraud. He also mentioned that he received a phone call from my number but spoke to someone else who said that I was in the meeting. These two seperate occurances made the situation so believable to my client, that he nearly paid them $8,000 to save himself from going to prison and to save my business fr...om getting closed down, as the caller claimed. These scammers also used female actors who pretended to be my employees and acted frightened for themselves if money isn't paid right now. I am sharing this as a warning. I keep hearing similar stories, but what is truly worrying me is that now these scammers have a way to call their victims using my number. I do not know how they do it. But if you receive a similar call, hang up. Even the police cannot do anything about it, so your best weapon is just to HANG UP. You can also follow the link below and register directly with the ATO to receive scam updates, so that you don't fall for the manipulation and fear tactics used by these scammers. And most importantly, please SHARE this post so that others don't fall for this fraud. See more

03.01.2022 Few of my clients have recently reported being scammed on the phone call believed to be from the ATO. They were told they owe money and they must pay now using iTune cards. It was very believable because the scammers pretended to have their accountant (me) on another line. They used a fear tactic and made them believe they are truly in trouble and the police will come and arrest them if they don't act now and immediately pay what's owing. If you ever get a similar call - han...g up. It is a SCAM. Please remember, ATO will rarely call you directly. Most of the time they will call me, your Tax Agent as I am appointed to act on your behalf in all tax related matters. Occasionally they might try calling you directly, but even then when it happens, do not discuss anything with them, just contact me and I will find out what the call was about. ATO will never make demands on the phone that you must pay over the phone, especially that you must pay using iTune cards or other store cards. ATO will never threat with arresting you if you don't pay. So, remember that if you get a similar call, simply hang up your phone and ignore it.
