25.01.2022 A man walks into a bar. When he comes to the Safety Officer says, next time watch where you are going, switch on this is a dangerous work place. Situational awareness is depicted as a cycle, because the situation and people’s perceptions are constantly changing. This internal cycle continues as long as people are awake. Everyone starts with an initial perception of any given situation and then continuously updates it with new information. People gather information through b...oth observation, which includes input from the senses, and communication, which includes face-to-face conversation, written communication, and electronic exchanges. Simply paying attention is an important part of maintaining good situational awareness, but even more important is determining what to pay attention to. All perceptions are subject to filtering and focusing: people constantly filter information and shift focus. People also produce a lot of internal inputs such as thoughts about what to do next, stress, memories of similar experiences, fear etc. Stay aware, stay informed, stay focused and stay Safe

15.01.2022 Forklift Definition; A Forklift is a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork-arms As a mechanical device Forklifts make our work easier and save us from lots of rigorous labour.... Did you know that more unloaded Forklifts fall over then Loaded Forklifts? A properly loaded Forklift is balanced and is near impossible to fall over. However an unloaded Forklift has all its weight at the rear, AKA Counter Balanced and due to the suspension and stability system of a Forklift, the Center of gravity in the unloaded state is in the apex of the Stability Triangle. Uses forget this when they are unloaded tend to treat the machine as a race car. In sharp turns the rear steer of the Forklift moves outwards rapidly. Remember this is where all the weight of an unloaded Forklift sits. ‘Newton’s Law’ make this want to keep moving and as such your Forklift can be pulled over onto its side quite easily. What to Do: 1) Stay in the Forklift 2) Wearing your Seatbelt will help stop ejection 3) Plant your Feet 4) Grasp the steering wheel with both Hands 5) Lean away from point of impact 6) Only leave the machine when all motion has stopped Respect your Forklift and respect the environment you are working in. Maintain your situational awareness and drive at a speed in which you can safely stop at. Stay Safe out there and stay tuned for more safety tips

25.12.2021 North Australia Emergency Response Competition (NAERC) 2021 done and dusted. A great opportunity for people to practice their skills and test themselves and teams. A big thankyou to the sponsors and organises of this fantastic event. I personally got to play in the Underground Rescue, the BA Search and Rescue and the HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) scenario’s and events. My roles included; Moulage (Make up), Casualty, Adujudicator (of Team Medics) and Mentor to new personal involved in the comps.

08.12.2021 On my way back to Darwin to be part of the NAERC (North Australian Emergency Response Competition). Four fun days of fun and learning with realistic scenarios to test the attending rescue teams.

17.11.2021 Is this learned behaviour? What allows a person, or group of people to believe that this is safe? Obviously no Risk Assessment or Work Method Statement done here
