18.01.2022 What do you think of when you hear 'Capabilities'? For job roles, we tend to break capabilities down into three separate descriptions.... Knowledge The first is knowledge and the knowledge that is required to complete the job. It comes down to what a person has studied, what degrees they have and what courses an individual has completed that aline with the job role. Skills The second is skills. It is what skills an individual has that will assist them in meeting the tasks you require for the role and identifying what those skills are. Competencies This is often the basic human behaviours required for the position. Does the job description need someone with specific qualities? For example, does this role require a person with great empathy, resilience or confidence?

Planning and preparation of the contents of your CV, plus the design and layout of the document right from the beginning of the process can be a real help. Many CV's have information collated into sections such as 'Employment' and 'Education and Training'. Other headings can also work well.... It really assists the reader if you guide them through the document with some simple headings - you want to make it easier for the reader, right?

They may be there to guide you through each question and section of the form or be as simple as asking you to use 'black ink only on the form itself. Some applications also have pages of accompanying notes to ensure you are as prepared as you can be to answer the questions ahead of you. Take some time before you even pick up a pen or start typing to understand the form and what it is asking you to do.... Make sure you follow every instruction, such as what colour ink to use or keep your answer to 150 words or less - if you don't follow the guidelines you could be removed from the hiring process. #jobsearch
