23.01.2022 Sand dunes + sunshine. After several chats with the DHHS + the local police, I'm afraid I still don't have the green light to start shooting again (boo). They've all been super-helpful but unfortunately they just don't have enough information from the government yet. It's still a very grey area (masks + household bubbles are proving problematic) and I'm just not willing to risk the fines for my clients. So we wait... and enjoy the school holidays. ... 20.01.2022 LET'S EDIT - video tutorials. Ok you asked. Here it is! I've made a few little EDITING videos after so many were asking for tips + pointers. I'll start off with a really simple (& embarrassingly easy) studio edit and i'll aim to swap it with a new video each week/fortnight. Next up i'll do some slightly more laborious beach edits.... I don't have one magic preset that works for everything, I'm not professing to be an expert editor and I'm probably telling most of you to suck eggs, but I'm always happy to share! 18.01.2022 Favourite out-take from my shoot with May yesterday :-) I was getting everything set up and literally didn't even realise Edie was in the shot until I uploaded them on the computer! It's already on the fridge.... I love this dog so much. (I'm her favourite too, have I mentioned that?) ;-) How was your *first day of Spring* legends?

I'm still buzzing from the most wonderful catchup last night with some other local togs. We are SO lucky to have such a beautiful crew around here. Gosh we laughed. And encouraged. And shared. 18.01.2022 SOUND ON!!! (+ watch til the end!) This here is my favourite sound in the while wide world. Same gorgeous boy. 11 years apart. Not that one of my kids has a better laugh than another, but when he laughs he laughs with his whole body. And it's utterly infectious. (I end up tears streaming down my face every time, I totally used to pay my mum out for that!). Slapstick is his weakness (that's what's got him in the 2nd vid).... Just wanted to share some joy before I clock out for the holidays + stop overloading you with my boring personal shares. Hopefully I'll be filling your feed with beautiful client work again soon! 16.01.2022 <3 Proud big bros <3 Check your email Emma, a gorgeous gallery is headed your way! Can't wait to share more of this beaut little mini sesh shortly ;-) I feel like we're finally getting somewhere with a potential mask exemption for our clients (fingers crossed!). Dan Andrews has said he'll clarify things *hopefully* today after being asked at a press conference this morning. HOORAY. ... We've had a good few days of publicity thanks to petitions and radio interviews, so hopefully we'll be able to start booking in sessions soon guys! In the meantime... how's this darling trio hey?

16.01.2022 It's definitely not the "best" group photo we got last night, but it's right up there as one of my faves. So many personalities captured here in this one shot. Oh and did i mention we were getting fully rained on at this point?! If you look closely you can see the raindrops! We were about 3/4 through the session when the drizzle set it, right as we arrived at their spectacular dam. Damn. But we kept on shooting, and kept on laughing! 14.01.2022 I can't even tell you how good it felt to get back to shooting last week. We still have the dreaded *mask issue* (needs to be said with a Trude&Prue voice), but I was able to capture this 8 week old bundle of beautiful and her big brothers at least. Miss S was asleep for half her mini and smiling for the other. SO GOOD. Gosh i've missed it. We're still trying our darndest to get a mask exemption for shoots so we can get back to work (it's just ridiculous, I won't even get sta...rted). I'm hanging out to have some good news for all my clients who are patiently waiting. I've had a lot of enquiries this week but unless you've locked in your session, it's looking like you'll most likely have to wait until 2021 now i'm afraid! In other news... kids are back to school tomorrow! I'm not even going to ask if you mums are excited... Pretty sure I know the answer to that one!

13.01.2022 This absolute powerhouse of a woman was recently awarded the local "unsung hero award". Anyone who knows Tania, or dare I say it, even knows OF her, would agree this is SO deserved. Anyway, this is not my story to tell but needless to say i'm so proud to call her my mate. We snuck in a few sneaky shots with her handsome men at the end of our *corporate* shoot. I have to tell you, it feels SO good to be shooting again. You're a legend Tan, well done my friend.

12.01.2022 Confession: We sat down and watched "BLUEY" for the first time EVER yesterday. Yup. Never watched it before, not even Roo. I know right, what rock have we been living under?! Needless to say I now understand the hype (if the 97% IMDB rating isn't indication enough!). Absolutely brilliant. I even caught myself getting emotional at one point (what the?! Don't tell hubby though, he still teases me for crying during "The Croods"). The Knells have now jumped on the Bluey bandwago...n, woo! Which eps are your faves? Do we just start from the start? 12.01.2022 I taught the little guy how to finger-knit yesterday. Didn't particularly think it would click but we gave it a go anyway. HE LOVES IT. It's kept him "occupied" (translated: busy/quiet... he doesn't have an inside voice, if you've met him you'll understand) for at least an hour since then already.... WINNING. (And he's not half bad at it either!)

12.01.2022 Regional Vic!! Hands in the air if you're pumped for eased restrictions!! YEWWW! (cliche caption, sorry, but any excuse to get this cute face up in my feed!) Wonderful, amazing news but unfortunately things are still grey when it comes to photography (hello masks), even after speaking to the powers that be. ... So I'll continue to wait patiently (or impatiently) for some clarity and stalk the announcements daily. Hopefully we'll hear more in the next day or two. Positively busting to get back to it though. 10.01.2022 "MAKING PHOTOSHOOTS FUN SINCE 2010" Summing up your business in one little sentence is HARD. I've just changed my *strapline* to this... Thoughts?... I've been doing a lot of *behind the scenes* on my biz during the downtime (because I am SO NOT a businesswoman, can I just take pretty pictures??) and I've realised the one thing I hear most after a session is "we had so much FUN!" 08.01.2022 Its official. I'm FORTY. I'm ok with that though. Truly! I'm pretty thrilled with this little life of mine after 40 full & wonderful years. I've been absolutely spoilt rotten (& utterly overwhelmed) with birthday celebrations, gifts, messages, lunches, deliveries & all-round thoughtfulness over the past few weeks (& it's not done yet! ). I'm SO very grateful to be surrounded by such thoughtful & generous friends & family. The absolute luckiest! ... We got all spruced up for family photos yesterday (one of my fave b'day presents, thanks @bellaartephotography !!) But instead of snapping a photo while I was in my finest, here's me post-birthday dinner, in my trakkies, snapped on my phone by my 10 year old. Absolutely over the moon with life.

08.01.2022 BALLERINA I'm always asking clients to step out of their comfort zones (because who honestly LIKES being in front of a camera?). Well this is me outside of mine. When this beautiful ballerina's mum asked me to capture her little girl doing her thing, I excitedly (but very nervously) accepted... After all, *fine art* definitely isn't MY thing.... So we met at the dance studio, shut all the blinds bar one, struck a few poses (her, not me) and then right at the end we grabbed some portraits... and this magic happened. I've barely even edited them. This is all you, Miss A. And wasn't it fun!

And oh how i've LOVED being welcomed into, and capturing, the lives of beautiful little families + creatives. How lucky am I?!... I can't get through the editing + sneak peeks fast enough! 07.01.2022 "Whoa mum, what went wrong there?!" (My 12 year olds response when he saw me editing these shots from last week). I had a play with *freelensing* again (literally disconnecting the lens from the camera, eek!) and to be honest I LOVE the blurred look, even if he clearly doesn't! It occurred to me that these shots sum up how our regional road map is looking to me in regards to work. BLURRY.... I'm seeking clarity and will be in touch with clients as soon as I know more. As you can imagine, mandatory mask-wearing makes photoshoots tricky (unless you like that kinda look on your walls, maybe?), impossible even. So in my search for clarity i'm choosing to try to accept the blurry and not let it drive the perfectionist in me nuts. As soon as I know more i'll be shouting it from the rooftops!

06.01.2022 EXCITING CHANGES ARE COMING!! I've spent this downtime doing a lot of thinking, planning and reflecting about my little business. The world is changing, we're all adapting and I feel it's time to make a few changes to KNELLY too. Don't worry, it's all good news! From tomorrow onwards, i'll be discounting my packages. Not out of necessity (I already have lots of bookings at my current prices which is absolutely awesome!) but because it FEELS RIGHT, given the times we find our...selves in. 06.01.2022 How's homeschooling been for you this week? Happy fried-day! This sums up our Miss M. Get it done then get me to the beach.... (To be fair she jumped into her wetty for her project today and decided to stay in it). Props to our school too, Fridays are "enquiry project day" which is a stroke of genius, my kids love it. What a fun way to end the school week. Love her guts. Love her enthusiasm. Now let's get out into the sunshine! Happy weekend legends. (21 degrees tomorrow, we are PUMPED!!!)

06.01.2022 THIS IS US! {taken by the amazing @bellaartephotography } How lucky am I to have such talented photographers as friends? And such thoughtful, generous ones at that! I was absolutely SPOILED ROTTEN for my 40th this year. We were gifted a night at this incredible Airbnb and my darling friend also asked if I'd like my own family photos on the morning of my birthday. Oh heck yes please! It was such a thoughtful, special gift, a beautiful experience and I will absolutely treasure ...these photos for ever. Thanks Em Excuse my self-indulgence, I'm just SO in love with these! GET THOSE PHOTOS GUYS!! There's nothing quite like seeing your own little family in photos to remind you how incredibly blessed you are (in case you ever need reminding!). 05.01.2022 I've sat on this post for a week (because no one wants to see me in a wetty, let's be honest!)... but I wanted to share a little story... My 10yo daughter was asked last week during a class webex if there was anything she was concerned about, going back to school. Her answer; "not being able to go surfing with mum everyday". Which as you can imagine, made my year. I don't love the way I look in a wetsuit (not even remotely). I'm not fishing for compliments, i'd ideally like b...e 10kgs lighter, but even the fact that i'm ok with that is an absolute miracle (but my past body issues are a topic for another day, or private convo). I'm also VERY aware that I have a little mini-me who is being moulded by my behaviour + self image. So on goes the wetsuit + I try my very best not to pay myself out about it. When hubby grabbed my camera at the beach the other day to get some shots of me, my first thought was "sure, but they're getting deleted straight away". But instead of focussing on the width of my thighs, I saw this pic and thought, "You know what, I'm about to turn 40. I've taught myself to surf this year (still not great, but loving it). And my favourite hours of 2020 have been spent in this wetsuit with my kids. Who actually cares how I look in it? I know my kids certainly don't." So I wanted to share this as an encouragement to other self-conscious mums (aren't we all?). If someone had told me at the start of the year my most-worn item of clothing of 2020 was going to be a wetsuit, I would have gagged. But imagine all the awesome memories i'd have missed out on if I was too self-conscious to give it a go. Put on the wetsuit. Or active wear. Or whatever it is. Get out there. I guarantee the only one noticing any wobble-issues are you. Goodness, it's helped me make some awesome memories for my kids this year. And that's priceless. PS... again, HOW LUCKY are we to live on the coast and be able to do this. I'm grateful for that too.

05.01.2022 I don't have adequate words to describe how incredibly special this is. Three generations of AMAZING, intelligent, strong, beautiful women. I couldn't ask for a more precious first shoot back in the studio. Love these three ladies very much. I finally got to visit my Grandma in her nursing home last week, and my mum is on the other side of the world. This gets me right in the guts.... Guys, seriously. Get the photos.

04.01.2022 Tell me... quiet, poignant moments or outright belly laughs? Which is your favourite? I can never decide. But that's ok cos I try to get an equal mix of both during our sessions. Picking one for a sneak peek though? That's a whole other story!... The beautiful ladies are lighting up my editing screen today. They're ALL sunshine. 03.01.2022 So I cut my boys' hair. (Is it even iso if you haven't experimented with clippers?) Needless to say, I'm no hairdresser, but I'm quietly a little proud that it's good enough to be seen in public. It did take me two goes to get it *right* + blend out those bowls though. Not that I needed to do it myself (I'm pretty sure hairdressers are still open here?), but their overgrown sideburns were driving me nuts, and I'm impulsive, so... cue clippers! I will not be expanding my servi...ces to personal grooming anytime soon (if you've seen my hair lately you'll understand). But I'm clocking it up as one little ISO win for me... would love to hear some of yours (wins, or fails if you'd like to share some laughs!) In other news, I'll be emailing out my NEW + IMPROVED pricelist to my newsletter crew tonight (are you in?)! I'll upload them online later this week. YEWW! I'm so excited!

03.01.2022 HELLO RIVER! I don't play favourites. But when you've had the honour of capturing a couples wedding... then bumps which become beautiful babies... TIMES THREE... well you can understand why I love my "job" so much right? How special is that? I can't even tell you how much I appreciate all my gorgeous returning families. This sesh was the stuff of dreams. Divine little family. Gorgeous, squishy newborn babe, en pointe styling (nice one Rochelle!). 03.01.2022 I was legit going to caption this with a big excited "HAPPY WEEKEND". And then I realised it was only Thursday... I think it is? Anyways... happy *almost* weekend right?... I had SO MANY inboxes about this mumma's gorgeous dress. I'll admit, I am tempted to grab one for moi. (It's from one of our amazing Liebig st boutiques btw... yay for supporting local!) I could photograph this little family ALL DAY. (almost done Jacinta!)

03.01.2022 On Mondays we match! Well actually we don't, but here's a little story... I was admiring Miss M's little outfit the other day, thinking "I would totally wear that", when I realised I DID, in fact, own the very same outfit, in grown up size. Obvs I buy her clothes, but I've always let her dress herself (well, since she was able!) as I love seeing her express herself that way (the wacky combos have been GOLD).... I mentioned to her (semi-joking) that we should find all our matching clothes and have a photoshoot, thinking she'd be all "mum, how lame, NO"... but she was the exact opposite! SUPER excited. She raced straight to our closets, grabbed all our clothes and was keen as mustard. It was awesome. So today we kicked dad out of the studio/office and had an absolute BALL with the self timer. And the best bit? I said to her "I love that you want to do this because pretty soon enough you won't find it all that cool to be matching your mum" To which she replied "no, I disagree. I think it will always be cool!" I'll make sure to remind her of that when she's 16. I'll probably whip these photos out too ;-) (Excuse my self-indulgent overshare, I will treasure these pics forever)

03.01.2022 We still say that having our 3rd baby was one of the best decisions we've ever made (never a dull moment that's for sure!). Watching these doting big sisters with their baby brother reminded me how much I loved watching my two big kids fussing over Roo as a baby. They still kinda do. And I still love watching it. You're one lucky little boy, Master R.

They were such good sports though and we laughed our way through the slight drenching!
