17.01.2022 I have always wondered if it is at all possible to pierce chain mail armour with the relatively wide tipped swords of the Viking Age. I finally got the chance t...o give it a try when my friend Thrand let me participate in one of his popular tests. The experiment was conducted at the Grand Opening of Ásfólk https://www.facebook.com/Asfolk/?fref=ts , and the according video is already up and running on Thrand's Patreon pages: https://www.facebook.com/Asfolk/?fref=ts Getting instant access to the video and supporting his work is easy: https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?patAmt=1&u=248605 Look forward to part 2 when we change to spears ! 17.01.2022 OK, this morning's post didn't happen for some reason. Let's try that again!

17.01.2022 A little Medieval humour. Abbey of Sainte Foy, Conques, c1050.

16.01.2022 It's a very wintery day at the Crannog - we definitely need the fire lit inside!

15.01.2022 A generous parent just sent me on this home video of a party a while back

13.01.2022 In Gallic Polytheism Rudianos is the God of War. Rudianos means red, reflecting to His warlike nature. At Saint-Michel-de-Valbonne there is also a prehistoric i...mage of a mounted war-god, dating to the 6th Century BCE, who could perhaps be Rudianos himself. The menhir-shaped stone depicts a roughly incised figure of a horseman, with an enormous head, riding down five severed heads. Artwork is by an unknown artist.

11.01.2022 This confirms my own independent findings that girls (for their age) are usually better at sword fighting than boys!

10.01.2022 So who is going??

07.01.2022 The myth that knights could barely move in their armor has finally been dispelled.

04.01.2022 I would imagine that it gets a bit chilly in the Glory Hole when the mist rises off the River Witham, in Lincoln! The High Bridge, over the river, was built around 1160 to replace an earlier ford.

01.01.2022 A secret war time tunnel has been rediscovered in the Royal National Park. Built in 1942, the hidden chamber was dug under the road to conceal explosives. In ca...se of invasion, they would be detonated - destroying the road to help protect Sydney. But don’t worry, there are no longer explosives. It’s now a cosy home for a colony of microbats, known as the Eastern Horseshoe bat. #ImBatman #BatCave
