19.01.2022 This little star is called Annie She is 9 months old and suffered an intestinal perforation whilst in her mothers womb. She had to have emergency surgery a...s soon as she was born and she lost 11cm of small intestine. She had to have an ostomy fitted at 6 months, however it has now been reversed due to failure to thrive. Despite her reversal, she is still at risk of blockages and digestive problems and although Annie doesn’t have a diagnosis, despite everything she has been through her mother says she is the happiest baby she’s ever seen, with a contagious smile! even having a g-tube for what she cannot take by mouth and a hernia, she is getting there with her crawling What an amazing little hero. It’s clear illness does not discriminate and sadly even babies are suffering from intestinal problems. I really wish Annie a healthy and happy life ahead - she really deserves it. Let’s show this angel some love & See more

18.01.2022 The year is flying and as always Maryjane, (graphic designer, illustrator and ostomate) joins us to share her thought for the month. MJ's perspective on living ...with a stoma is always honest and authentic but this month's in particular is a real eye opener highlighting how her ostomy is a second chance at life "There was a UK news story recently: a judge ruled that a seriously ill 30 year old man with ongoing bowel issues should be allowed to die, rather than live with a stoma. It made my heart break a little to think that someone would rather end their life than live with a bag. I can’t judge his decision as I don’t know his full story or background. But it makes me think how incredibly important it is to focus on mental health alongside managing an ostomy or IBD conditions. And continue to raise positive awareness and reduce the stigma about life with a bag. When I was leading up to my own ostomy surgery, I felt like failure: I felt helpless, I couldn’t manage my IBD or trust my body. Surgery was a drastic last resort. But I did my research and was inspired by other ostomates online. I saw how they thrived and felt I could do the same. My mindset was positive going in and it made a world of difference. I’m not going to lie - waking up in hospital with an ostomy bag is a shock even when your prepared for it! It’s a surreal thing to look down and discover your new way of living. But those initial emotions were soon replaced by gratitude, feeling free, happiness, curiosity and excitement. It become a life changing and life saving moment for me. I had no idea what to expect, but an ostomy was better than I could imagine. As an ostomate I‘m free from IBD and can focus on enjoying Life 2.0 - I just wish I did it sooner! Sending hugs to anyone struggling with their ostomy today " Watch this space for more posts like this and follow MJ on Instagram @emjayuc https://www.instagram.com/emjayuc/?hl=en #ulcerativecolitis #ibd #ibdawareness #ibdwarrior #crohnsdisease #crohnsandcolitis #invisibleillness #spoonielife #autoimmunedisease #chronicillness #ostomate #ostomyawareness #ostomylife #ileostomy #healthadvocate #wellbeingwarrior #ostomia #chronicillnesswarrior #mentalhealthawareness #noteverydisabilityisvisible #nocolonstillrollin #ostomy #ibdlife #stomastigma #patientadvocate #removethestigma #colectomy #stoma #ileostomate

15.01.2022 We need to change the perception out there that having an ostomy is the most awful and disgusting thing that can happen to someone. We need to change the narra...tive. We need to remove the stigma attached to having an ostomy. We need to stop holding our value and desirability against how we poo. We need to show those out there that might require an ostomy that the representation out there is incorrect. That life can still be beautiful. Scaremongering and placement of our own internal fears will never keep us moving forwards. That only allows you to limit me. Limiting me by putting judgement on me while I’m already down means that I will accept awful things and believe that this is life. But that’s not true. When advocates are out there spreading the message of acceptance, awareness, education and empowerment, we set a higher standard of living. That’s not an unreasonable standard either. It’s a standard that says; I’m normal, this is me, it’s a little different but that’s ok. What’s not ok is living secluded, insecure and in pain. I am a proud ostomate. I’m not always loving life or having it smooth with an ostomy, but it sure does beat, not living or how life was before. So THANK YOU to all those amazing medical professionals out there, watching this, wanting to know and understand better. We appreciate your wanting to see us and empower us. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you also to all the families out there reading, educating and empowering their loved ones. I see you and I appreciate you; as does those who you are helping. My fellow ostomates: Please don’t give up. Even when it’s hard because you’ve been struggling so long; what you don’t realize is that by watching this and following other advocates, you’re already taking the steps to feel good in your skin. It doesn’t happen over night. I’m grateful to you all. Thank you. Please keep sharing! Hopefully soon we will see a positive interaction regarding an ostomy on tv soon!
