18.01.2022 knowmore welcomes today’s announcement that the Commonwealth, NSW, SA, Tasmanian, Victorian and WA governments will step in as funders of last resort for five former Fairbridge institutions. This is positive news for many survivors who have waited years for justice, and whose applications for redress can now be progressed. https://ministers.dss.gov.au/media-releases/6861

15.01.2022 The changes to Victims Support mean that many victim-survivors of violence in NSW don’t have access to the support they have a right to and need, says Arlia Fleming, Chair, Community Legal Centres NSW. 13.01.2022 knowmore welcomes civil litigation reforms introduced in NSW Parliament today that would allow abuse survivors who previously received unfair settlements to seek further compensation for the harm they experienced as children. Under the proposed reforms, a court will have the power to set aside past settlement agreements if satisfied it is ‘just and reasonable to do so’. This is vital for the many survivors who accepted unfair and unjust settlements from institutions in the past. We look forward to the NSW Parliament passing the Civil Liability Amendment (Child Abuse) Bill 2021 and bringing NSW into line with the other jurisdictions that have already implemented these important reforms.

12.01.2022 knowmore will be closed for the long weekend and will open again on 6 April 2021.
