21.01.2022 #BREAKING: The Victorian Premier has announced that the state will be tightening COVID-19 restrictions from Monday, amid growing concern about a looming second ...wave of the virus. 20.01.2022 It is with great disappointment that we let you all know that the 2021 Axedale Quick Shear & Family Fun Day has been cancelled. Like so many other community fun...draising events we were hopeful that a lifting of CoVID restrictions would give us enough time to plan and hold the 2021 event, but sadly this isn't the case. In the absence of any definite government guidelines for outdoor events into the future, our committee is unable to proceed with organising the Quick Shear with any confidence. In a 'normal' year, the committee would already be well underway with planning for the event, talking to sponsors and making financial commitments with our valued suppliers of merchandise and kids entertainment activities. But this has not been a 'normal' year. Not being able to hold the Quick Shear next year will have a financial impact on the groups for whom our event raises much needed funds - the Axedale PreSchool, Axedale Primary School, Axedale Hall, Axedale and Mosquito Creek CFA's. These groups may undertake other fundraising efforts in 2021, and if you are in a position to support those activities, we know that would be much appreciated. As we move towards the end of 2020 and Christmas, we would also ask that you consider supporting any of the businesses, both in Axedale and in Bendigo, who have been loyal sponsors and donors to the Quick Shear. A full list of these businesses can be found on our website (axedalequickshear.com.au). Thank you Axedale Events inc committee

16.01.2022 Why do fires burn faster uphill? As a fire travels uphill, there's less space between the flames and new fuel to burn. Radiant heat from the fire also prehe...ats the fuel in front of it, making the fuel easier to ignite. The steeper the land, the faster a bushfire will spread; for every 10 degrees in uphill slope, the speed of a fire will double. On the other hand, with fires moving downhill there's more distance between the flames and new fuel, so fires will spread more slowly. 16.01.2022 Tonight at 5:40pm, some CFA brigades across the state will be sounding their fire alarm for four cycles in memory of the four fallen Victoria Police Officers wh...o tragically lost their lives last week. We do ask that you please help us make your friends and family aware of this event and not to be alarmed when you hear the siren.

12.01.2022 BREAKING: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CONFIRMS NO CASES IN BENDIGO YET The Victorian Department of Health has for the first time released information about regional lo...cations with confirmed covid-19 cases. There are currently three confirmed cases in Geelong, one in Ballarat and one in the Latrobe Valley. Experts are urging all regional Victorians to remain vigilant, even if you don't have a confirmed case in your area. University of New South Wales infectious disease expert Bill Bowtell said, "people can’t fool themselves that it can’t happen here because you’re a long way from Melbourne. All that means is that you’ve got a little bit more time to learn from the mistakes of others, and to adopt effective policies and prevention approaches now. It is also worth noting that there is currently about a 5 day wait between testing and results, and it's likely there are people in communities who are asymptomatic.

10.01.2022 Yep.....we know you've heard the 'warnings' before, and we know that some of you will go "blah, blah, blah, heard it before". It's true, you have heard it befo...re. But we also know that in NSW & Qld the rainforest is on fire. Let that sink in; the wet, damp and dripping rain forest is burning. At Mozzie Creek brigade we don't know what summer will bring but we do know that when we see 'signs' we tend to take note. At the moment all we can go on is the expert advice, the scenes from over the boarder, the early introduction of Fire Restrictions in East Gippsland and our own local observations. All of these things tell us that our residents need to: - Start cleaning up and preparing your property - Check your fire plan (or make one) - Talk your plan over with friends and neighbours - Check that people in your house know what to do - Check your pumps, hoses and water tanks - Get your emergency kit (papers, insurance details etc) ready Being ready to act is the best option Check out www.cfa.vic.gov.au if you need more information or advice on preparing your property, or you can drop into our station on a Sunday morning. https://www.theage.com.au//it-s-going-to-be-a-bad-year-as-

05.01.2022 Summer is almost here! So, what's the outlook for DecemberFebruary? Summer days are likely to be warmer than average for most of the country. Nights... are also likely to be warmer than average, except in the southeast. Most of Australia is likely to experience a drier-than-average December, but from January the increased likelihood of drier-than-normal conditions contracts to the east of the country. Northern Western Australia may see wetter-than-usual conditions at times this wet season, particularly in early 2020. With a warm and dry outlook there is an increased risk of bushfires, heatwaves, drought, and dust for large parts of Australia this summer.
