25.01.2022 It’s #NewYearsEve! It might be tempting to get some drone photography or footage of fireworks or other celebrations wherever you are, but remember you must not fly at night or in a populous area. Locations like Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House are iconic and known for their fireworks displays, but they’re located in a no drone zone due to other low flying aircraft in the area. Visit www.knowyourdrone.gov.au to review the rules and test your knowledge.

24.01.2022 Here are some handy drone safety tips to try before you fly! Before you leave the house: Test your drone’s failsafe/return to home Use a CASA-verified safety app to see where you can fly... Pack a landing pad so your drone’s propellers don’t get caught on long grass When you’re outside flying: Assess the area to consider what might go wrong Keep an eye out for dogs, birds and other hazards Talk to spectators about maintaining a safe distance #KnowYourDrone

22.01.2022 This time of year is usually bright and sunny in Australia, but we do have our moody days, too. Flying your drone in cloud, fog or mist can reduce your ability to maintain line of sight and to spot and avoid other aircraft or obstacles in the sky, so check the weather before you head out for a fly. Visit www.knowyourdrone.gov.au to review the rules and test your knowledge.

22.01.2022 With more drones in the sky, it’s important to know the rules that keep you and others safe. Stop by our stand at the World of Drones and Robotics Congress 2020 to get your questions answered, and advice on safe drone operations. #WODC2020 #KnowYourDrone

19.01.2022 You might have heard of the drone safety rule: ‘You must always keep your drone within your visual line-of-sight.’ But what does that mean? Visual line-of-sight (VLOS) means that you must be able to see, orient and navigate your drone with your own eyes (not through a device, screen or goggles). Check out our Plain English Guide (PEG) for more information: https://bit.ly/3o6wGYX

15.01.2022 For a drone to lift off, its propellor blades need to spin at quite a speed, so it’s important not to fly directly over or above other people. Just think If your drone were to fail and drop from the sky, it could cause an injury. Stay safe visit www.knowyourdrone.gov.au to refresh your knowledge of the safety rules.

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration plans for up to 5 test flights within a 30-Martian-day (31-Earth-day) period. Read more in Flight Safety Australia:

13.01.2022 Alice Springs' dry climate makes the Red Centre the perfect place for long-term plane storage, but as spectacular as the sight is, you must not fly your drone: over a departure or approach path (the airspace where aircraft take-off and land) over a movement area (the part of the airport where aircraft taxi on the ground) within 5.5 km of a movement area of a controlled airport (generally have a control tower at them).... If you're unsure, you can download a CASA-verified drone safety app with easy to use maps to find out where you can and can't fly your drone.
