25.01.2022 VBAC is a vaginal birth after caesarean and until recently (and at some hospitals still now) many hospitals werent doing VBACs because of the supposed ris...ks. There is a stack of research that exists and this is just one little piece of info from an Australian Study called risk of uterine rupture in Australian women attempting vaginal birth after one prior Caesarean section: a retrospective population-based cohort study by Dekker et al. This research also found that compared with spontaneous labour, risks were increased 3-5 fold for any induction, 6 fold for prostaglandin combined with oxytocin and 14 fold for augmentation with oxytocin. #vbac #vbacsuccess #vbacwithoutfear #nbac #hbac #transformativebirthwork See more

22.01.2022 CIRCLE OF CARE REOPENS for women booking our midwifery care from November 2020 onwards. The collaborative Circle of Care gives expectant mothers (and partners if available) access to a social network with soul that offers support, education and health assessment in a nurturing group environment. Women are welcomed into the Circle as early as their tenth week of pregnancy. The Circle continues until your baby is six weeks old. The Circle of Care consists of monthly and even...tually fortnightly one and a half-hour meetings where women in various stages of pregnancy come together. Mary & Jemma provide guidance, education and support, answer questions and facilitates a forum of shared learning. The social network formed by the Circle enables peer support, bonding and the secure feeling that no Circle woman is going through pregnancy alone. The Birth Warrior Antenatal Program is integrated within the Circle of Care. During Circle meetings, women also receive personalised pregnancy assessment and care alone with Mary or Jemma while the others are having a cuppa and chat. We take a holistic women-centered approach in supporting Circle participants to prepare mentally, physically, spiritually and environmentally for birth and motherhood. 21.01.2022 Another new day dawns and our beautiful baby comes earth side at last, 24 hrs and 2 minutes AND believe it or not, 2 complete labour’s later. Now that’s another story to tell! It’s great weather for this midwife to tuck into bed finally!

20.01.2022 At Know Your Midwife we speak to women almost daily who have felt traumatised by the medical system; we offer preconceptual wellness programs to eliminate past traumas so they may enter into their next pregnancy with peace, calm and confidence that the past has been let go both mentally and physically. If women want a change in birth experience, they need to change their birthing environment, their preparation, and seek caregivers who educate, support and nurture them ( and their partners) til the very end. An undisturbed birth means no bright lights, no strange sounds, strangers voices, no interventions,; an empowered mother entering her primoidal brain to labour and birth the way nature intended, a supportive team with her all the way.

19.01.2022 This article by Sara Wickham sums up induction well. I'm thankful to say that with women birthing at home, we have never had an induction for post dates, never had to transfer for meconium with women 42 - 43 - 44 weeks, yet we birth with 25 - 40 women per year at home. What's the difference do you think?

18.01.2022 There is always time to start over. To rebuild what is broken. To right what is wrong. To align with Life. ... There is always time to slow down and regroup. To come back to our center. To return to our bodies. To find our strength. There is always time to stop and look at where we're standing. To see our feet in the dirt. To feel the Earth beneath us. To know our place. There's always time to appreciate the little things. To indulge in simple pleasures. To adorn the world with beauty. To honor embodiment. There's always time to amend the soil. To tend to our foundation. To get our hands dirty. To reclaim our integrity. There's always time to evolve with our values. To realign with our worth. To come back to the basics. To remember who we are. It can be hard to fully embody our truest selves To show up with our light everyday To be our best in each moment To be a good human. But we always have the opportunity to realign. To come back. To remember our innate goodness. To be better than we were before. Slow down. Remember. Return home. It doesn't matter how long we've been away. We are always welcome. And we are always worthy. ~Megan Walsh www.innermandalamedicine.com art: Michele P. Tripp

18.01.2022 We attended a beautiful HOMEBIRTH on Friday night. A young first time mum and her partner and two beautiful support women to give her courage to birth her baby. This mum and her partner had put in the preparation and although it was intense, she worked through her fear and birthed her beautiful baby girl. It was a 3 hr 24 minute intense labour - and a bit of a shock to the body, but all was well. With the pandemic of the Coronavirus I'm thankful for birthing women at home. No cleaners, no Drs coming from other wards, no change of midwives on duty, no sick people coughing in corridors; healthy food you prepare yourself, family you know who will protect you, your known midwife, your own environment - BUT - emergency services IF you need them.

17.01.2022 This is beautiful.....

15.01.2022 We're Creating A New Website for Know Your Midwife! As Jemma and I embark on a specialised Home Birth Practice we felt it was time to update the website to reflect what we do, why we do it, and how we do it! We'd love anyone's input as to what information you seek when checking a Private Midwife's website?

15.01.2022 Women try many different supplements through hearsay to support pregnancy and labour without seeking the evidence. Here's a very interesting article by Sarah about good old raspberry leaf tea!

15.01.2022 " Grandma how do you deal with pain?" " With your hands, dear. When you do it with your mind, the pain hardens even more." With your hands, grandma?"... " Yes, yes. Our hands are the antennas of our soul. When you move them by sewing, cooking, painting, touching the earth or sinking it into the earth, they send signals of caring to the deepest part of you and your soul calms down. This way she doesn't have to send pain anymore to show it. " Are hands really that important?" " Yes my girl. Thinking of babies: they get to know the world thanks to their touches. When you look at the hands of older people, they tell more about their lives than any other part of the body. Everything that is made by hand, so is said, is made with the heart because it really is like this: hands and heart are connected. Masseuses know this: When they touch another person's body with their hands, they create a deep connection. Thinking of lovers: When their hands touch, they love each other in the most sublime way." " My hands grandma... how long haven't I used them like that!" " Move them my girl, start creating with them and everything in you will move. The pain will not pass away. But it will be the best masterpiece. And it won't hurt anymore. Because you managed to embroider your essence." ~ Elena Barnabe

14.01.2022 There is magic in the air! With all the death and sorrow associated with Covid-19, women are becoming more powerful in birth. They are researching homebirth and finding the information that's been there all along, that homebirth is an amazing experience with preparation. Most of our women have come to us from 28 weeks on, having realised that hospital is not the best place to have their natural birth yet they prepare with our Birth Warrior program and have incredibly healing ...and powerful experiences. The husbands are also feeling in awe of the natural and calm process - where they could be totally involved, not left sitting in the corner! I know I was lowering my caseload over the last few years but since Jemma has joined the practice, it makes sense to open up again as she brings many gifts to the practice to ensure women can be prepared for their homebirth experience. Enquiries are up 400% - this is Changing Birth On Earth as women awaken to their own power! See more

12.01.2022 Great news article promoting the benefits of home birth during the current pandemic! Let's keep hospital resources for the sick people that need them ... and support well women and babies to stay well through community-based midwifery care. http://theconversation.com/during-coronavirus-hospital-surg

11.01.2022 To all our lovely women who have birthed with us over time, please write a wee review on our google business page - it would be truly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

11.01.2022 Birth Story This is the story of a woman who had never been "allowed to birth" in a position of her choice - she had always felt "pinned down on her back" by midwives. Ange felt she'd not had the support of her husband who had to "sit in a corner" or "hold her down" as the midwives instructed. It's the story of a woman who experienced 3 hospital births in "lights and noise" and she "checked out" from her body as she felt "they dragged my babies from me". She had never felt he...r waters break, they were always broken "to speed things up!' She had never been allowed to birth her placenta naturally; it had been "pulled out" of her after "an injection I didn't even know I was getting!" It's the story of a man who "has never felt needed in birth" These are the experiences Jemma and I found when Jemma did bodywork and discovered the traumas stored in the pelvic muscles and tissues and when I took Ange through hypnotherapy sessions. Once we knew these deep traumas we could provide healing and preparation to enable this couple to experience the birth they both deserved. Angela birthed her 4th baby with Confidence, Grace, Dignity and Feminine Power. She felt her waters break, she brought her own baby to the surface of the water with her husbands' support, she was totally Present and felt what every woman should feel - the indescribable love, power and transformation in birthing her baby herself. When we, as midwives, can care for a woman/family holistically with all the different modalities we practice, to discover her issues, her subconscious fears, her patterns and beliefs; we can use tools to heal and prepare the woman and her partner for an awesome natural birth at home. Our new website (coming) will have the statistics of the last 3 years as Jemma and I have used these modalities ( will also be listed on the website) and we believe they have made a difference for women, their partners, and their experience in birth. Mary

07.01.2022 This woman had a profound impact upon my training - in using homeopathy and all alternative therapies plus trusting intuition!

06.01.2022 There is so much fear, and perhaps rightfully so, about COVID-19. And, what if... If we subscribe to the philosophy that life is always working out for us, that... there is an intelligence far greater than humans at work... That all is interconnected. What if............. The virus is here to help us? To reset. To remember. What is truly important. Reconnecting with family and community. Reducing travel so the environment, the skies, the air, our lungs, all get a break. Parts of China are seeing blue sky and clouds for the first time in forever with the factories being shut down. Working from home rather than commuting to work (less pollution, more personal time). Reconnecting with family as there is more time at home. An invitation to turn inwards a deep meditation rather than the usual going out to self soothe. To reconnect with self what is really important to me? A reset economically. The working poor. The lack of healthcare access. The need for paid sick leave. How hard does one need to work to be able to live, to have a life outside of work? To face our mortality check back into living life rather than simply working, working, working. To reconnect with our elders who are so susceptible to the virus. The presence of Grace for all. There is a shift underway in our society what if it is one that is favorable for us? What if the virus is an ally in our evolution? In our remembrance of what it means to be connected, humane, living a simpler life, to be less impactful/more kind to our environment. It was time for a change, we all knew that. And, change has arrived. ~ Gurpreet K. Gill

05.01.2022 This is really sad! Another reason to Homebirth!

05.01.2022 Forever grateful for Queensland ( so far without water in labour bans) and grateful for the normality of homebirthing!

05.01.2022 A woman must know and love her essence, she must love her truth and sovereignty and truly resonate love of the most highest in all aspects of life... only then will she attract the man or partner that matches her frequency for in this space, her womb is whole and full whether she has children or not. When this occurs watch them both cast love more brilliant than the finest gem you could ever find. This reigns true for even the toughest of times for it is in our darkness that we truly find our light Karen Palumbo

04.01.2022 This awesome lady birthed the way nature intended and in her own power, loved and supported by her family. Although Tess came to us with only 10 weeks til birth, she and her husband embraced their preparation and were rewarded with this experience. Tess has watched her video over and over - I hope you enjoy this and her story.

04.01.2022 Push for a system like New Zealand please. Government funded home birth access for all women across Australia.

04.01.2022 A new dawn and a new life about to enter this world. Such is our life as midwives! Such Joy!

04.01.2022 Keep updated with reputable sites only. Theres a lot of fear and scare mongering on Facebook!

04.01.2022 Know Your Midwife Home Birth Statistics The photos are of a very proud VBAC mama who's face says everything. So what are the outcomes for Mary & Jemma and their ever evolving Home Birth program in the last 3 years together with 68 women? People have asked us, so here they are:... 0 inductions for post dates. ( All mums and bubs well and healthy! ) 0 women transferred for pain relief . 0 women transferred in an emergency from their homebirth 0 women transferred for a post partum haemorrhage 0 VBAC women transferred (9 successful empowered VBACs!) 0 babies transferred to hospital after birth Transfers from home to hospital: 1 woman required hospital assistance for specialised suturing. 1 woman required a medical induction for prolonged rupture of membranes in combination with a IUGR baby at 38 weeks (previous babies had been 4.2kg+ and birthed at home) Birthed in 3 hrs and the very small baby thrived! 3 women required transfer for medical assistance (these women did not undertake the full program with hypnotherapy and bodywork which, in hindsight, may have altered the outcome and they may have birthed at home.) Of those women, 1 had a medically indicated Emlscs; 1 had an epidural and an instrumental birth; 1 birthed spontaneously in hospital within 10 minutes of arrival after an hours drive - but had a postpartum haemorrhage 5 women required suturing of a perineal/vaginal wall tear at home. All other women incurred little to no perineal damage. The mothers have 98% breastfeeding success. 1 mother had difficulty with milk supply. 1 baby had a protein intolerance to the breastmilk. In both these cases, we visited the mothers 20 =- 25 times in the 6 weeks! Medicare rebates applied! Multipara women (many including previous birth traumas) birthing at home in 5 hours and under! Primip women birthing at home in 6 -7 hours and under! 62/68 women experienced a waterbirth!

03.01.2022 Covid-19 is changing birth just SLIGHTLY but enough to make us take bookings daily and women booking in for a Zoom call to find out : how do we change from hospital to home birth; what will it cost and can I pay it off; is it too late to prepare and what do I have to do? And at that Zoom call we turn fear into their innate belief to be powerful in birth and we start preparing. We had our first "covid-19 - turned hospital to home birth this week. She said "I'm so afraid of thi...s birth ending up like the last one and I don't want the last experience". She worked hard in our program, eliminated the past from her mind and body and the labour came on like the last time and it was intense but awesome. She said the next day; " after all that preparation - (meditation, visualisation, breathing, bodywork, massage), I feel cheated - like it was too short (4hrs) - like I didn't get done all we were planning!!!!!!!!!" She spent time feeding in that birth space/room and felt the incredible energy from all she'd experienced in there. How awesome is that for a woman? Family? Midwife????? See more

03.01.2022 HOMEBIRTH MUST BE GOVT FUNDED!! As a result of COVID-19, an unprecedented number of families are now choosing homebirth. The inadequacy of the state based homebirth programs means that more families than ever are relying on homebirth midwives in private practice to provide their maternity care during these challenging times. But the access issues that have always surrounded homebirth have been made even more fraught by the pandemic and associated economic crisis. Families are... maxing out credit cards and withdrawing their super to pay for their homebirth care. The Federal Government can fix this. Homebirth Australia call on Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt to fully approve the recommendations in the MBS Review Participating Midwife Report (including provision of Medicare rebates for homebirth), and expedite their implementation onto the schedule. These rebates will make sure all families get the support they need during this crisis, while taking the burden off the public hospital system. Lets all get behind this push, and help families stay home! Add your voice and email Greg Hunt MP here: https://homebirth.good.do/homeb/EmailFederalHealthMinister/

02.01.2022 No cleaners, no Dr's coming from infected people, no changes in midwifery staff, no food you haven't prepared, family supporting you, (plenty of toilet paper) e...xperienced midwives caring for you, your own safe home environment and excellent preparation for a FEARLESS birth. Why wouldn't you take the healthier option if you have the choice? We have also had 2 more women decide to birth with us and not to birth in hospital where the isolation ward for the virus is next to the maternity ward!!! Mary. See more

01.01.2022 We are available for home birth bookings!!

01.01.2022 Have to add to this: recognises Dad's voice too!
