19.01.2022 Group of picnickers in Ferntree Gully National Park. Group standing in front of Parker's horse drawn delivery van from South Yarra and Prahran. This would have been the normal mode of transport for picnic groups at that time. It is thought that the policeman is Thomas Foster and his sister Ethel Foster is next to him. William Foster is on the far right in the back. Part of our extensive collection

10.01.2022 KHS has been busy working remotely. Biographies are being written and new information obtained is ready to be added to our extensive collection and database when we return to Ambleside. Family histories are an important part of the work we do and we welcome submissions to add to our collection. Some families have old family photos they are not sure what to do with - we can digitise them for prosperity along with any information about them and their lives in Knox and surrounds.... Here is one small example....which this week will be our jigsaw puzzle... This week's puzzle is of Reta Matthews & her siblings researched by Larry Varley of Boronia "On the 10th September 1947 Reta May Matthews (nee Ibbotson) (1911 1983 ) bought 20 Park Crescent, Boronia, (her name is on the title as owner). Reta was married to John (Jack) Wreford Matthews (1907 - 1976), an ex soldier and clerk, in 1941. She was living with or near her Aunt Eveline in Rythdale and workin as a teacher at the time of her marriage. Reta became a school teacher in 1937 and was a well known local identity working as a school Librarian and founding a kindergarten. She was a life member of the tennis club. Reta Matthews reserve next to the tennis club at the bottom of Springfield Rd is named after her. Reta died as a result of an accident on 11th April 1983 when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Dorset Rd on the pedestrian crossing that was once close to the end of Park Crescent. Reta was on her way to a committee meeting for the kindergarten on Dorset Rd." Picture: L-R Reta, Phyllis and Reta's twin brother Howard
