14.01.2022 Its breeding season for Plovers. Plovers/Masked Lapwings are commonly seen in large grassy areas, but can also nest in some dangerous and precarious locations ...such as on median strips in the middle of busy roads or in car parks! If you have a plover in your area, please read the graphics below for some tips on what you can do. Plovers are very protective of their nests and chicks. Adults will swoop and use loud noises or act as though they have a broken wing in an attempt to lure the intruder away from the nest. This behaviour is mostly bluff and actual contact attacks are rare. Learn more https://www.wires.org.au/wildlif/wildlife-education/plovers

13.01.2022 If you care about our local environment, please consider joining the EAC.

12.01.2022 Fantastic news!

12.01.2022 The KES has a long history of donating to local and national causes and projects. Usually our donations go towards environmental organisations and groups. When the KES committee heard about the incredible works of Foothills Community Care - Community Meals and how due to COVID-19 they now somehow needed to feed over 500 more people every week than they did before, they made the decision at the last committee meeting to break from the norm and help people in need in our local community with a $2,000 donation.

11.01.2022 Amazing news!!! If you don't know why this is so awesome, please read here: www.kes.org.au/home/campaigns/lakeknox

08.01.2022 So happy to see the Knox Repair Cafe back in action!

08.01.2022 Have you met Morgan along the Blind Creek Trail?

08.01.2022 Can you spare a few dollars to help us save Lake Knox? We need your help to hire a Wetland Ecologist to write a report on the ecology of Lake Knox which is critical habitat to endangered species such as the Floodplain Fireweed and the Blue Billed Duck. This report will be a powerful tool to help us in the fight to save Lake Knox from impending bulldozers.

08.01.2022 Obtained under Freedom of Information by community members, this aerial view shows the level of contamination across the Development Victoria site, and was comm...issioned by Places Victoria (Development Victoria's previous name). During their recent community consultation process, this information has never been highlighted by Development Victoria. The only area that isn't contaminated is within and around Lake Knox! Questions naturally must be raised as to why Development Victoria saw fit to withhold this information from the community. * What risks does it pose to local residents and the Fairhills High School if the soil is disturbed and dust is naturally created? * Can Development Victoria prove that their will be no longer term health effects from disturbance of the soil and ingestion of dust by the community if work starts onsite? * Are 'Hot Spots' of soil contamination likely to exist? * To what degree is the soil contaminated, especially towards the Burwood Highway end? We would encourage community members to contact their local elected representatives to raise concerns directly with them. 03.01.2022 IMPORTANT WATER NOTICE FOR EVERYONE: URGENT friends in The Basin, Bayswater, Bayswater North, Boronia and Wantirna. This from Yarra Valley Water, but may also affect South East Water customers also which affects some suburbs in KNOX: Weve become aware of a potential water quality issue affecting 88 suburbs due to electrical damage caused by storms overnight. These power outages have resulted in some water entering our drinking water supply system and customer taps that ha...d not been treated to the usual standard. Power has now returned and the initial issue has been addressed, however undisinfected water is still within some areas. If you live in the suburbs below, as a precaution we advise you to bring tap water to a rolling boil before using for drinking, brushing your teeth, food preparation, preparing baby formula, making ice or bathing infants. Until we can guarantee that the water is safe to drink again, we ask customers to boil their water. We are working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and Melbourne Water, who own and manage Silvan Dam, to resolve the issue as soon as possible. We expect water supply to be back to normal later today (Friday 28 August). We will provide updates on the Yarra Valley Water Facebook Page Our teams are working around the clock to address this issue. Edit: Full list of suburbs affected in the comments.
