25.01.2022 Police in the Maroondah, Knox and Yarra Ranges communities work closely with families who have children living with disabilities to understand their needs and d...evelop appropriate processes for face-to-face interactions. Families can choose to provide police with information that may assist police respond to and help children and young people living with disabilities, such as typical behaviours and effective communications strategies in the instance they might need help. For example, if a child living with autism is reported missing, police can refer to the information on that child’s confidential profile to ensure appropriate care measures are in place when they are located. Police can also provide families a lanyard and small identification card with contact details and personal notes that a person can carry with them. In the instance a child has difficulty communicating, this information can assist police respond to the needs of the child. Police are open to working with any families who may benefit from this service. To speak to police about this, call your local police station and speak to the Crime Prevention Officer or Youth Resource Officer.

12.01.2022 The State Government is chipping in an extra $22 million for the redevelopment of the State Basketball Centre. All up the jointly funded project between Knox Council and the Government will cost $130 million. The project will deliver 10 new indoor community courts for local basketball competitions, landscaping, and new administration areas. The council said the upgrade would establish the State Basketball Centre as a leading facility for basketball in the country, meeting growing demand for the sport among local players as well as creating new and improved facilities for gymnastics. The additional funding brings the State Government’s total contribution to $105 million, with $25 million to be provided by the council.

12.01.2022 HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY QUEENIE! It was a day filled with fun, family and celebrations at Arcare Knox on Tuesday as resident, Queenie Pierce celebrated her 100th birthday. The much-loved jokester was treated a special guest performance from Frank Powell (from Hurricane Duo), who took special requests from the centenarian, in addition to playing classics from Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra. However, in Queenie’s true outspoken and cheeky nature, she heckled him throughout the show... to sing various songs as well (all in good fun of course)! The day was complete with a special Collingwood cake and luncheon supplied by the Arcare Knox team. A special speech was also given by the birthday girl herself. A die-hard Collingwood fan, Queenie worked in the club for many years in the 70s as a volunteer and was a part of the cheer squad who helped make the banners!
