05.01.2022 Family and friends, I am standing for a councillor position in the upcoming election on 28th March 2020. Your support would be appreciated. I have lived in Char...ters Towers for 55 years in which time I have worked for NORQEB (now Ergon), run my own electrical contracting business and operated Hollimans Hardware in a successful partnership for 21 years. After selling the hardware business, I have and continue to work contracting with various cattle properties in the region and am a Rural Mail Contractor with Australia Post. My councillor experience has spanned 24 years, initially with the former Dalrymple Shire Council and then serving two terms following amalgamation. The Charters Towers economy is reliant on four major industries education, beef cattle, tourism and mining. With the ebbs and flows of each of these entities, I am passionate about council maintaining an equal and strong interest in all aspects of these industries. In particular: Continued upgrade and expansion of the Dalrymple Saleyards and satisfactory road access for Council’s rural residents. Currently, council is reforming and rebuilding rural roads with flood damage funds from the Monsoon Event in January 2019. While this could take another 12 months to complete, I will continue to lobby for increased maintenance on these essential roads for our rural residents. Ensuring the necessary financial and in-kind support for the Progress Associations in our smaller communities continues. The tourism information centre and its associated activities are promoting our region brilliantly and need Council’s ongoing support which I am passionate about maintaining.
