25.01.2022 We are incredibly humbled when a child, young adult or family chooses to fundraise for Koala Kids after receiving support from us. It truly never ceases to amaze us how generous people can be, even when facing their own difficult treatment path Charlee-Jade is a 20 year old whose life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Medulloblastoma brain tumour in July. With her 21st birthday approaching, Charlee-Jade has created a fundraiser for Koala Kids, ...saying with my 21st birthday coming up, a lot of people have wanted to buy me a gift but I really don’t need or want anything at the moment. Koala Kids has shown me great kindness, gifting me skincare and arts & craft throughout my radiation treatments. And they had a gift for me on my last day too! They also gave me a hat with hair from Someone's Sunday as I was balding. Happiness does help. They’re right. If you would like to wish Charlee-Jade a happy 21st birthday and support her fundraiser by making a donation to Koala Kids, please visit her Facebook page Charlee-Jade's Fight Against Brain Cancer #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps See more

25.01.2022 We’ve really been enjoying sending resources directly to families’ homes as part of our happy base There is nothing like receiving a happy parcel at home! We launched our happy base back in March as a way to reach families whilst we’re unable to send resources to some hospitals due to the pandemic. Since then, we have enjoyed watching the happy base grow and being able to support more families directly #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps

23.01.2022 Most children with cancer need to have a nasogastric feeding tube at some stage during their treatment. Inserting the tube can cause both the child and their parent much anxiety so being offered a novelty patch or adhesive plaster provides the nursing staff and the parent or carer the opportunity to distract the child - choosing from a range of designs to hopefully find their favourite. We are looking forward to distributing a range of both A Simple Patch patches and medical tape and #KidsHopeChest Feeding Friends to cancer treatment paediatric units in Melbourne and around regional Victoria and Tasmania in a bid to desensitise the pain and anxiety associated with having the tubes intubated and adding some fun to what is regarded as one of the most painful procedures during cancer treatment #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps

12.01.2022 Children learn best through play which is why medical play is an important aspect to a child’s cancer treatment and hospital admissions. Medical play is about children playing with real and pretend medical items. Research has proven it can help children - express their feelings and concerns about medical procedures... - practise coping with procedures - feel in control in a healthcare setting - learn the purpose of different medical items. We were so happy to provide 20 doctor’s play kits to play therapists at Monash Children's Hospital who asked specifically for them for children in their care. On other occasions we have also provided therapists in our hospital network various other toy doctor’s kits and trolleys, toy MRI sets, doctors and nurses dress ups and other dolls and toys to assist with medical play #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps See more

01.01.2022 Koala Kids expanded our support of children and young people during cancer treatment to include Tasmanian families two years ago Around a third of children diagnosed with cancer in Tasmania have to travel to Melbourne during their treatment. It was an easy decision to expand our support so families could receive the same support back home as they did when they were in Melbourne. Tasmanian families are appreciating all of the small things we have been providing and ar...e very generous with their thanks. We received this beautiful message from a mum whose daughter was treated in Melbourne and Hobart. I was over the moon excited to learn the news that you are now also supporting us and our fellow friends here in Hobart. What an amazing difference you make. This morning the delivery of magazines arrived in the clinic and even though they may seem simple to some, it was a great change for us parents to have access to adult’s reading material! The kids are loving accessing the little knick knacks too. Sending a very big thank you for opening up your Koala Kids arms and supporting the families of Hobart. We truly appreciate it. #koalakids #webelievehappyhelps See more
