22.01.2022 Baby Jackson all the way from W Tree East Gippsland. A week in care after loosing his Mum. He is now settled and relaxed .

21.01.2022 Lily came into care 2 days ago suffering severe malnutrition. She is from Raymond Island where sadly there isn't enough food trees for the population there. It's an ongoing issue. Starvation, stress related issues and dog attacks the main cause of rescues on Raymond Island. Thankyou to resident Andrew for finding her on the ground very unwell . It was just before the cold snap and rain came . Lily is very lucky you spotted her. She has had blood tests and been on iv fluid ...and other treatment to help her . Thankyou again to our wonderful vet Jade from Main Street Vet Clinic Bairnsdale. Always here for us for the Wildlife . Thankyou again to the residents who call us when animals are in need

20.01.2022 In Memory of a very special Lady Vanessa Strydom

19.01.2022 Our job is tough and sad at times and today's rescue was just that . A big special heartfelt thankyou to Don a local farmer from Sarsfield who always looks after the Kangaroos. Today Don rescued a baby joey 5kg from a fence and called me for help but sadly despite administering emergency treatment he died on arrival at our vet .... These cases are really hard for us. The tears flow and a piece of our heart goes with them . Goodbye little man

18.01.2022 Yesterday's rescue was all the way from Wtree on the Gelantipy rd. A male 3kg Eastern Grey Kangaroo Joey. Sadly his Mum was hit by a car left on the road, without stopping to check her. Thank you to resident Megan who did stop to check and pulled the Mum off the road and thank you to resident Deb for removing this beautiful joey from the pouch.... A special thank you to our carer Janis who drove all the way to pick him up and bring him back to the Sanctuary. Thank you to Michele & Marie-Louise for helping with this rescue also . We have called him Jackson .

18.01.2022 Raymond Islands Wildlife are keeping us very busy with Koala and Kangaroo calls. Here is another of our latest rescues . A young Male Eastern Grey Kangaroo 40kg . A big special Thankyou to our darter Debbie. Thankyou to residents Richard,Viv and Kath and to local fencing contractor Andy for calling us and for help. This boy was caught in brand new fencing only up a day. Please remember Raymond Island is a wildlife haven ,abundant in Koalas Kangaroos, Wallabies, Birdlife, li...zards and Echidna's. Please give careful thought when building new infrastructure. With new fencing remove bottom strand for babies to get through and remove top strands or wrap white sight tape along top strand so Kangaroos can see it . Where possible cut thoroughfares. This helps our Wildlife live safer along side of us . This young but big boy suffered extensive injuries to both legs. One leg with 3 inch bone exposure . However after being cut from the fence he was still mobile, we had to call our darter Deb to come and help. After successful rescue we then took him to our vet Main Street Veterinary Practice Bairnsdale . Unfortunately his injuries were too severe and we sadly had to put him to sleep. The stress of longterm care for this big mobile boy would have resulted in capture myopathy which leads to kidney failure. A very tough decision we had to make . Once again thankyou to all involved and thankyou to residents for calling us for Wildlife needing help . Photo taken after being sedated. He can no longer feel pain or stress and can be safely transported for assessment . We are very lucky to have a fully licensed Darter available to us for Kangaroos /Wallabies injured that are still mobile. Thankyou All

Thankyou so much to Longford vet ,Mel and Amanda for treating him and transport. Thankyou to my vet Jade and to Sarah from Main street Veterinary Clinic for additional help also last night with him . He is being treated with IV fluid ,antibiotics , pain relief and vitamins and supplement feeding as he cant eat properly at the moment . He has a long way to go to full recovery. Praying that we can get him through this trauma. If you would like to help us please click on this link Thankyou to everyone for supporting our work http://koalashelter.org/help/donate/

14.01.2022 Young Kangaroos relaxing on a warm day at the Sanctuary

13.01.2022 It was another busy week with rescues. This was the highlight of the week and the most difficult rescue . "Glenn" is a young Eastern Grey Kangaroo . ... He got himself lost in the heart of Traralgon . Ending up in an enclosed back yard of a resident with very high fencing ,it was a mystery how he got in there. Our darter Deb came to the rescue but this boy was wired , extremely stressed and wanted to get out . It was a rescue not for the faint hearted . He managed to jump 6ft fences and end up almost on a house roof , getting as high as the gutter before Deb managed to safely dart him behind a small fence 2 properties away from original location. Glenn was sedated and Deb transported to us. He was treated with oxygen and fluid ,vitamins and a couple of superficial wounds dressed. After recovery he was then released with our local mob here . A big Thankyou to Deb the work she does is truely amazing, immeasurable .Without being able to sedate by dart gun this rescue would not have been possible . We are able to relieve suffering, stress and pain to cases like this and in Glenns case its a happy ending . Thankyou Deb so much I love working with you Xxx All this work we do is voluntary, we don't get paid and we have to fund all this work ourselves. 10.01.2022 A huge thankyou to our darter Debbie for today's rescue. This young Swamp Wallaby Mum has spent the last week hopping around the Sale township. With numerous attempts to rescue she kept disapearing. Finally today a resident called who was able to shut a gate and contain her in his yard. Deb was able to dart and sedate her. Now safely at Waterholes this beautiful but traumatised girl is resting peacefully . She has a small pinky baby in her pouch . She also has numerous supe...rficial wounds . She will spend some time in captivity to make sure she is ok given she has a baby to care for aswell. Thankyou again Deb for not only darting but also transporting to us. Can't thank you enough .

08.01.2022 A very special moment ,Danny up and standing ,able to balance for the first time . Danny was hit by a car on the March the 8th. He suffered head trauma causing temporary damage and blindness to his right eye. Extensive swelling to his head and numerous wounds . One wound exposing bone which has now healed fully . Seeing Danny up was very emotional time and it's what makes our work all worthwhile. To see animals badly injured and to be able to administer care and treatment ,give them a chance at life again is very rewarding . My love and passion for the Wildlife drives my work I do. Thankyou to all that help and support us .

06.01.2022 The end of Easter school Holidays has kept us very busy with rescues and animals in care . Car strikes have been horrible with 2 Kangaroos 2 possums and a tawny frog mouth hit. We also had call outs to a Koala at Longford and 2 Koalas on Raymond Island . Thankyou to fellow carers, rescuers and shelters, Lynne, Debbie , Jody and Robyn who attended rescued transported and monitored over the past week . Awesome team effort by all working for the welfare of our precious Wil...dlife. We have new cases in care, here are some of them below . Also is a latest video of one of our baby Koalas Nugget who's being bottle fed twice a day . He loves his milk !!! Thankyou to all the people that reported the injured animals and to the people that went out of their way to rescue some . You all are beautiful people thankyou Xxx See more

04.01.2022 Today's rescue brought sadness and lots of tears, but a little ray of sunshine came out of it. Thankyou to one of our rescuers/ carer Jody who picked this Koala up today. Thankyou to resident Jan for calling for help . This young Mum was from Raymond Island. She sadly passed away only a few hours after rescue. She was presenting with loss of balance , flipping over , bumping into obstacles , walking in circles, flickering eyes . Possibly a head trauma . A necropsy will be don...e to hopefully find some answers . However she was carrying a tiny baby girl weighing only 189grams. I had to cut open the pouch carefully to remove her . My heart melted and tears were flowing for this very precious little bundle of joy and sadness for this beautiful young Mum no longer here to enjoy her baby . As a tribute to a very beautiful young person, Vanessa Strydom, who sadly lost her life during the week, I have named this baby girl Vanessa, in her honour. Vanessa's love for Koalas was immeasurable. Her financial support has meant we can build additional infastructure and purchase new medical equipment we so desperately needed. Vanessa's legacy will live on with the work we do for the Koalas & Kangaroos Baby Vanessa is sleeping peacefully now. She is on special milk formula and will be fed 5 times a day . She is too young to consume leaf yet. Thankyou again Jody and Jan for your help today

02.01.2022 The Sanctuary was privileged to spend the day on Thursday with a film crew from Channel 31. We were contacted a little while ago to be filmed for their new conservation program. What an awesome group . A very special thankyou to host Bridie, cameramen Nick and Mike and to Lauren Producer.... The documentary will air next year around April, stay tuned for that . Thankyou to Main Street Veterinary Clinic for being apart of the film . To our vet Jade can't thankyou enough. The filming started at Raymond Island where the Shelter was founded and built . We showed the crew around which was very enjoyable . They did interviews with our Island rescuers/ carers Jody & Susan .They also saw lots of Koalas and Echidnas . We then left for the next interview , Main Street Veterinary Clinic . Then after that on to Waterholes the main home now of the Sanctuary. The crew had a great time and were very moved by the wildlife, habitat and work we do for Australia's precious Wildlife . Thankyou to Jody, Susan and Janis who took part in the interviews .
