09.01.2022 Rouge Waves - Screening at the Leven Theatre, Ulverstone Civic Centre December 12. One of Tasmania’s original Surfing pioneers, Mick Lawrence is a 72 year old ...Tasmanian filmmaker, writer, wilderness guide, surfer & kayaker. As a filmmaker produced over 100 documentaries for national and international television. Has written for Tracks, Pacific Longboarder, Eurosurf magazines and published a book Surfing on the Inside. State Surfing Champion 1966/67. Surfed in Hawaii, California, Mexico, New Zealand and 20 years throughout the Indonesian archipelago. Member of SABR. 10 years exploring and filming the southwest wilderness by kayak. 4 years as a guide at the Southwest Wilderness Camp, Port Davey. I’m pleased to announce that after 3 years in production my latest documentary, Rogue Waves, will screen at the Leven Theatre, Ulverstone Civic Centre on Thursday December 12. It’s an ethereal road trip. A Tasmanian story of exploration, mateship, becoming unlost and dealing with the rogue waves of life. Not just a reflection on my surfing life, but the past ten years spent exploring the southwest wilderness by kayak and my job as a wilderness guide. The surf sequences cover epic waves in southeast Tasmania, King Island and the Indonesian archipelago from world renown photographers Stu Gibson and Talon Clemow plus a look at the Bali that was in 1980 from ‘Wire’ Curtain. The wilderness sequences were shot over 10 years and feature the stunning beauty of our state as few get to see it. Remote locations like Cape Barren Island, Franklin River, the southwest lakes and Port Davey. The sound track is an amazing piece of work by local sound engineer and musician, Georg Goerss, that is taken to another level with an original music score that would do Pink Floyd proud. Check out the 90 second trailer to the film.
