24.01.2022 Hi Daisy and Kenny We're still on holidays until the 29th, but once we resume, these two will be starting their retraining journey, and the plan is to give step by step updates as we go.

24.01.2022 Not much on this week with the weather, just trying to stay cool! Horses are coping well and the heat wave is nearly over Here's a cute pic of Sitka and Mickey mutual grooming which is an important aspect of a horses social life.

17.01.2022 Prevent health issues in the HEAT Wave this week by starting feeding electrolytes or salts BEFORE the main hot days. We'll start dosing electrolytes on Monday morning and continue to Saturday night. Our Wednesday round bale delivery has been delayed till Saturday to prevent gorging. All hay will be fed in slow feeder nets and minimal hard feeds. ... Waters will be positioned in the shade, and refilled with cool water several times a day. Horses are hosed down at each trough refilling. Maximum access to shaded areas especially with trees as the foliage provides cooler shade than a shelter. Keep an eye out for signs of colic for the hot days AND the week after as sometimes the onset is delayed... Especially in the young and old.

17.01.2022 Do trot poles always have to be perfectly placed or used in a straight line? Or are we allowed to walk, trot AND canter over the same set of poles? Changing angles and gaits over poles helps increase limb flexibility and proprioception- self awareness and responsibility for their feet. It's also a great way to stop a hot, rushy horse thinking about the outside world and focus on what they're doing without creating a war.

15.01.2022 School holidays are here and once the Christmas and New Year's rush is over, we'll be offering half days of "Playing Horses." It'll be 4-5hr blocks (either morning or arvo depending on weather) of the usual day to day chores and assisting in working horses (according to skill level) and a lesson with our school horse. Great for building all round horsemanship skills for any level. :) The cost for these days will be $80 :) Only 1-2 students accepted at a time to maximise your ...time here. :) (We can do a Gift Voucher for these days but can only be redeemed during school holidays)

13.01.2022 The forecast for next week is insane We've been watching for the last fortnight hoping it will change, but no such luck. Lessons will be run on Sunday/Monday/Saturday as much as possible, and Tuesday/Wednesday possibly very early (5/6am). ... We are closed the week after (22nd to 29th) for Christmas, but back to normal on the 30th.

09.01.2022 Riding lessons for Christmas? We can do gift certificates for pre paid lessons/training sessions. Inbox for more info.

09.01.2022 We're scheduling lessons for this Saturday to make up for any missed during the week. Forecast is predicting a nice 27c Then off on Christmas holidays from the Sunday 22nd to Sunday the 29th. Back at business like usual on the 30th.

06.01.2022 Last few days have been very smokey in the hills and northern suburbs. Smoke inhalation can affect your horses health, so keep a close eye on them for any irregular coughing/wheezing/runny nose and eyes/weight loss etc After the Pinery fires a few years back, we had a lot of smoke and ash fall on our Kapunda property and had several horses lose weight and have symptoms consistent with mild ulcers. We treated successfully with adding aloe Vera juice to hard feeds and had... no ongoing issues. :) It is also a great preventative if you're wanting to be proactive for any potential issues. We hope everyone has managed to keep themselves safe over this trying period.

05.01.2022 Happy New Year Everyone

05.01.2022 Standing still and patiently while mounting is an essential skill for any horse. Your horse should not move off until you ask, whether this is straight away or 10 minutes later... We can help in this area of you have issues, either quickly in a "boot camp" with us, or individual lessons at your place.

02.01.2022 Baby Mickey loves "helping" pack hay nets. At 10 months old, he's the perfect age to build confidence exploring news things, so we try to encourage his inquisitive nature, even when he gets a bit in the way

01.01.2022 We're pretty lucky life's running as per usual at the moment. Lessons are operating as normal, just with a bit more of a personal space bubble and way more sanitising. The main change we're making is you can no longer use our helmets if you don't have your own sorry!! If you want to continue your lessons, we can do ground work or you'll need to purchase and bring your own along. ... And PLEASE if you feel at all unwell (even if you think it's a common cold etc), please cancel or reschedule your lesson. There will be absolutely no fee for any cancellation if you're unwell until further notice. It's much more important for us all to stay safe and sensible. **edited to add** We are happy to accept bank transfer at the end of your lesson instead of cash to minimise accidental contamination.
