Special mention to our Training Officer Peter Campbell for keeping the topics interesting and relevant. Training will start back early in 2021 - keep your eyes open for the date.
21.01.2022 https://www.chinchillanews.com.au//lightning-str/4147766/ FIRE crews are in for a long weekend overseeing a fire in the Barakula State Forest which sparked up on Wednesday, November 25, due to a lightning strike. A Department of Environmental Science spokesman said almost 250 acres has been been burnt, and two Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on scene in the coming days to keep the fire contained.... The fire was contained by Thursday, there were four crews on site at that time, he said. Two crews will remain due to fire conditions, as it’s set to get quite warm. The spokesman said no homes have been at risk, as the fire is in a secluded area of the State Forest. The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning to Queenslanders, as extreme heatwave conditions set in across the state. On Friday until Saturday, November 28, Chinchilla can expect to see a high of 36, which is set to exceed the 40s from Monday through to Wednesday, December 2, with a scorching high of 43. The Bureau of Meteorology advises the following steps to cope with heatwave conditions: Drink plenty of water: Even if you don’t feel thirsty, drink water. Take a bottle with you always. Never leave children, older people or pets in cars: The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes. Stay somewhere cool: Seek out airconditioned buildings, draw your blinds, use a fan, take cool showers and dress in light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics. Plan ahead: Schedule activities in the coolest part of the day and avoid exercising in the heat. If you must go out, wear a hat and sunscreen and take a bottle of water with you. Check in on others: Look after those most at risk in the heat, your neighbour living alone, older people, the young, people with a medical condition and don’t forget your pets.

15.01.2022 https://www.chinchillanews.com.au//video-teen-su/4149330/ IN THE early hours of the morning at 2.18am, paramedics rushed a teenage boy to Tara Hospital with burns to his chest and arms after the car he was in caught ablaze. A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the teen was transported to hospital with minor injuries on Saturday, November 28, at 3.06am.... The fire leapt from the car and ignited surrounding bushland at Arnolds Rd, keeping firefighters busy for six to eight hours while they battled to contain the fire. A Rural Fire and Emergency service spokesman said the fire now has strong containment lines in place, and one crew will continue to monitor the fire Monday, and into the coming days. The fire was in inaccessible land, which made it difficult 120 acres have been burnt, he said. Rural Fire Service Darling Downs area director John Welke said, a nearby old and unoccupied structure was saved by firefighters, although an unused and empty wooden shed has been destroyed. The cause of the car fire is being investigated by police, he said. Mr Welke said he is proud of the hard yards Rural Fire Service volunteers are putting in across the district, and urged the community to do their bit to help. Coming into summer people need to be prepared, and careful when they are doing work which may lead an ignition, he said. That may welding, grinding, or even lighting a cigarette appropriate precaution needs to be taken because it’s going to be very hot this fire season, and it doesn’t taken much in the heat and dry conditions for a fire to start. Queensland Police was contacted for comment, and a spokesman said the car fire had been a misadventure.

13.01.2022 Have you ever needed to dial Triple Zero (000)? For some, it can be overwhelming making that phone call. We've simplified things in this video so you know what to expect when our awesome Fire Communications Officers answer your call. Check it out for yourself!
10.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).
