24.01.2022 Random Thoughts and Prayers - 7 October 2020

23.01.2022 Gracious God, On this Anzac Day, we bring before you all those who have and continue to serve in our Defence Forces. We remember and give thanks for their servi...ce to our country. We pray for all those who suffer in war and continue to suffer from the trauma of war. We pray for comfort in their grief. We pray for supportive communities to journey with them in their struggles, healing and recovery. We give thanks for all our Defence Force chaplains. We thank you for their response to your call to offer spiritual leadership and pastoral care to Defence Force personnel and their families. We pray for all those who are negotiating for peace in situations of war and conflict throughout our world. Bless them with wisdom, strength and resolve to find ways we can live together in harmony and respect for one another. We pray that we might be bearers of your peace. Through Christ, who is our Peace, we pray. Amen. - Dr Deidre Palmer, Uniting Church President

15.01.2022 This morning I went to the Catholic Church service on Christmas Island. What a lovely community. I met up with these two adorable little girls and even had a ...few cuddles before church started. Nades, Priya and the girls are warmly welcomed by the Catholic parish on Christmas Island. They clearly have support in this community. Tomorrow I will meet the family again at the detention centre. #hometobilo There is no Catholic priest on CI, so the Eucharistic service is community-led. Thank you to Ron and Susan - it was a joy to celebrate with you.

11.01.2022 The food rescue charity OzHarvest began with a single delivery back in 2002 and now has thousands of volunteers helping millions of people in need. Much of that success is down to the dynamic leadership of founder Ronni Kahn. She's now written a memoir called A Repurposed Life.

09.01.2022 Three decades of conflict and instability have had a dramatic impact on children’s education and wellbeing in Afghanistan, and girls are still fighting for equa...l access to education. Please pray that girls can safely participate in education in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. Please hope and pray for a peaceful settlement and end to the protracted crises in Afghanistan. Please pray for continued support and resources for Act for Peace’s partner, Community World Service Asia (CWSA) and their important mission in the nation.

06.01.2022 As we conclude the Season of Creation, let us pray this beautiful Canticle from St Francis of Assisi. Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures, especia...lly through my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day; and you give light through him. And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendour! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness. Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens you have made them, precious and beautiful. Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which you give your creatures sustenance. Be praised, My Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure. Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom you brighten the night. He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong. Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth, who feeds us and rules us and produces various fruits with coloured flowers and herbs. Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of you; through those who endure sickness and trial. Happy those who endure in peace, for they will be crowned. ~ St. Francis of Assisi

03.01.2022 "In the longer term, governments and manufacturers must make every effort to design masks that will not harm the planet and consumers should demand this. Face masks will probably be ubiquitous on our streets for months to come. But once the pandemic is over, the environmental legacy may last for decades, if not centuries."
