15.01.2022 Footwork on the reformer is one of the best clinical exercises to build strength in the lower limbs The horizontal plane that this exercise moves in, significantly reduces the load placed on joints and often the pain that people get with regular squats. This is perfect for those with any knee injuries or conditions such as osteoarthritis and is enjoyed by many of our older clients. #kogarahphysiotherapy #clinicalexercise #reformerpilates #footwork #exercise #movementismedicine #exercisephysiology #physiotherapy

11.01.2022 SIT TO STANDS A daily movement we do without thinking! But as we get older, for many this simple task becomes increasingly harder to do. Involving the large muscles groups of the lower limb, this is a great exercise to start with for those who are older, to build strength in the legs. Basic Instructions:... - Sit tall on a stable chair (tip: having the chair against wall ensures no slippage!) - Lean forward till your nose are over your toes - Drive through the heels of your feet and stand up tall - Sit back down, repeat. - Aim to perform 3 sets of 15 with a break in between each set With most of the older population forced to #stayhome it is more important than ever that they keep moving. Exercise generally should not be painful, so if you are uncertain whether this exercise is right for you, check with a health professional or an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. #exerciseathome #sittostands #kogarahphysio #movementismedicine #exercisephysiologist #exercise #health #wellbeing

03.01.2022 5 REASONS TO STAY ACTIVE THIS WINTER Exercise usually takes the back seat in winter with comfort food and snuggling indoors taking priority. However, for the benefit of your own health and wellbeing, here are 5 reason why you should stay active this winter! 1. Preventing chronic disease starts NOW - The evidence is clear that those who live an active lifestyle have a reduced risk of developing chronic disease such as Type 2 Diabetes, Heart disease and Osteoporosis... 2. Movement is MEDICINE - The ancient theory of REST is an outdated approach to the treatment of chronic conditions. Improving insulin resistance in T2D, reducing stiffness and pain in those with osteoarthritis and back pain are few of many ways exercise can help improve your existing health condition. 3. Consistency is KEY - Like with many things in life, in order to fully reap the benefits of exercise, it is essential to be consistent. Hibernating for 3 months will hinder your progress! 4. Stay STRONG - Whether it be summer sport, hikes or playing with your grandkids, resistance training can keep you enjoying the activities you love to do all year round! 5. Feel GOOD - Exercise triggers the release of endorphins that will make you feel good and help you beat the winter blues. There we go! 5 reasons to stay active in Winter #kogarahphysiotherapy #definedphysiotherapy #movementismedicine #physiotherapy #exercisephysiology #winter See more
