14.01.2022 Very sad news indeed. 29th Iaido and 20th Australian Seminar and Championships 2020 CANCELLED In light of the most recent announcement by the Prime Minister of Australia regarding mandatory quarantine for international travellers to Australia, and the increasing number of infections of Covid-19 within our national borders, the Australian Iaido Jodo Seminar and Championships (AIJSC) 2020 scheduled for late May have been cancelled. As with the previous announcement regarding t...he cancellation of the 45th Australian Kendo Championships, the Australian Kendo Renmei’s (AKR) considerations are the same, the health and safety of its members and society at large. Any registration and/or grading monies paid to the AKR by individuals will be fully refunded. Members will be informed of the mechanics and timeline which will be worked out between the AKR and the relevant boards. It is envisaged that the next AIJSC will be held next year again in Queensland in 2021. This is under discussion at present and may change. Members will be informed once a decision is made. The AKR apologises for any inconvenience caused by this decision, but it has been taken with due consideration of the health and safety of its members, their families, friends and close associates. Stay safe. Regards, Stylianos (Stilts) Polichroniadis President Australian Kendo Renmei Inc. Post: 11 Princess Street Coburg North, VIC 3058 Email: [email protected] Web: www.kendoaustralia.asn.au

09.01.2022 And that's it for another year! Training has ceased at Kohokai for the Christmas break, and will resume on the 8th of January 2020. The year finished on a high with the QKR State Seminar being held at Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler. ... Rob Doncaster was graded to 3rd Dan in Zen Ken Ren Iaido, and both Rob and James Archer also graded to 1st Kyu in Jodo. To all who follow this page, have a safe Christmas, especially if you are travelling, and all the best for training in 2020.
08.01.2022 Shared for interest. Whilst we don't practice Kendo at Kohokai, we regularly meet and talk with Kendo-ka at QKR and AKR seminars, and some members have trained in Kendo in the past.
08.01.2022 Web site for the next Australian Kendo Renmei - Iaido and Jodo National Seminar and Championships. As more details become available, this site will be updated.

07.01.2022 Shared for interest. A good read, especially with the explanation of who probably really used the Naginata. Hint - the author disagrees with the commonly-espoused opinion that it was solely a Samurai women's weapon...

05.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I forward on the following message from the President, QKR. I had the pleasure of training with Ruth, and she was truly lovely. RIP, Sensei. "Hi all , This morning I received the sad news of the passing of Sensei Ruth Franklin .... For many years, Ruth taught in Sydney and has been a stalwart member of the NSW iaido community for years. She was always one for the first to volunteer and gave freely of her time to a great number of people. To my knowledge she never missed a IJSC national seminar and was the driving force behind 2012 Sydney event. I have had the privilege to visited Ruth's Club in Sydney several times and Ruth and her club members always made me feel like part of her family. On behalf of all those who knew her, I would like express our condolences to her family and friends on the loss of a unique and kind person in Ruth Franklin. Regards, Tom Johnson"
04.01.2022 Just a short article, but an interesting read on the history and main types of Japanese armor. Shared for interest. https://weblog.tozando.com/japanese-samurai-armor-101/
04.01.2022 Shared for interest. Not a variant of the Kusarigama that I've commonly seen used, with a handguard closer to the blade, and being held reversed.
04.01.2022 An interesting point...
04.01.2022 Shared for interest. Personally, I am now definitely training for "mature" technique...no flashy stuff for me anymore (despite what Sensei chides me about sometimes... )

02.01.2022 Shared for interest! (I must confess, I thought at first, "This guy's keen...his kyudo range is flooded, and he's still giving it a red hot go!")
02.01.2022 Funny - Tom-san told the class this morning words to the effect of "You might know 100 kata, but if you can't cut properly, there's no point." And then I see this...
02.01.2022 Sad news indeed. :(
02.01.2022 Well, sounds about right actually...
