13.01.2022 Myrtle I got a few logs from Island Speciality Timber in Tasmania. The logs got left behind in the forest for 40 years. Sap wood is all rotten away and some heavilly rotted places. But still usable after 40 years! It's still usable because of it's big size. And! the timber came from old growth forest has stunning red color!... I read it's affected by it's soil. I also visited to Mt Feild National park to find some Myrtle trees. I always enjoy matching it's timber to it's tree, leaves, where it grows. Very happy days milling and walking into the forest.

04.01.2022 Fagus (Tanglefoot) Nothofagus gunnii notho - false... fagus - beech It's decisious leaves are really like birch rather than beech. Surprisingly, Myrtle is in same family. Myrtle: Nothofagus cunninghamii both very related to ancient Gondowana speices. It means you can find same family in South America, New Zealand, New Guinea, New Caledonia as well as in Australia. Fossil records of Nothofagus have also been found in Antartica. I found them in Mt. Field National Park. Tern Shelf was the place. Alpine part of Tassie. so fascinating! my findings in this trip. read this for more info http://anpsa.org.au/n-cun.html #gondowana @ Mount Field
