Fri 16 Apr: 6 8pm View Sat 17 Apr + Sun 18: 10 4pm In April 2020, the former president of the United States suggested injecting light and disinfectant into people’s bodies as a treatment for coronavirus. This is a thing that happened. Suppose You Brought the Light Inside of the Body is an exploration of the meandering sorrow and absurdity of 2020. In this unique series of ceramic works, Partyka attempts to both make sense of and comment on the bewildering state of contemporary life and politics the bush fires, the global pandemic, the social upheaval, the activism, the bumbling and bad politicians. Fuelled by rage and grief, the work seeks to push the viewer to reflect on their own experience of the year, as well as offer hope and beauty from its ashes. Exhibition continues Sat April 17 + Sun April 18, 1-5PM (bio by Harry Sanderson) While Luke Kolbusz has had a consistent output of creative work over the last five years, very little of it has been shown publicly. Rather than exhibiting a timeline of this private evolution, here he shows works from the most recent stage of his development. They date from late-2019, when painting became his main form of creative production. Feelings of adventure and exploration are key to these works, in both technique and concept. Kolbusz uses a mix of oils, acrylics and aerosol paints, applied to stretched and un-stretched canvases in a variety of sizes. Much of the work sits loosely within the tradition of portraiture, with figures refusing to resolve into clear tones or textures. Kolbusz relies largely on intuition for a sense of when a work is 'complete', meaning many of the portraits appear as inchoate fragments.
