25.01.2022 The last of the new 2019 Kollectiv Italian varietal trio to introduce to you is the Rosso. A blend of 3 fantastic Piedmontese varieties - Barbera, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. Now the Piedmontese vignerons would not really blend them together. Nebbiolo is the majestic variety responsible for my favourite red wines on the planet, Barolo and Barbaresco. In their homeland they stand alone. Barbera plays second fiddle to Nebbiolo but is still capable of making fine wine although much f...ruitier and approachable than Nebbiolo. Dolcetto plays third string but should not be discredited. Vibrant, fresh and fruitier than even Barbera, it makes everyday drinking a joy especially on a warm summers evening. So I have combined these three varieties very intentionally to make a juicy, vibrant, medium bodied red you can drink any time, especially throughout the summer. Low in tannin, big on fruit and a nice little savoury edge, its remains true to the unique characters of the varieties and their Italian heritage. I hope you enjoy the Kollectiv Rosso. Available exclusive via Naked Wines in Australia. Cheers, Drew See more
24.01.2022 Another glimpse, another clue. #Kollectiv new releases. Are you going to the Naked Wines Angels Tastings in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne? You should. Youll be the first to see and taste.
23.01.2022 It might be autumnal in Orange but hey, you Queenslanders, summer keeps rolling on! Mid-20s all next week - nice. Plenty of warm weather to keep enjoying white & rose wines. Kollectiv have 3 of them for you available exclusively through Naked Wines. Check out the Kollectiv Chardonnay, Bianco & Rosato - all perfect for you guys.
23.01.2022 #KollectivOnTour today we visited the very artisanal #Boutes cooperage south of Bordeaux where the beautiful big Kollectiv foudres - the 3000 litre French oak barrels were made. Fascinating to see the detail and craftsmanship required to make these barrels.
23.01.2022 Hi Brisbane, the Naked Wines Tasting Tour bus has arrived and Kollectiv is on board. Looking forward to sharing some new wines with you tonight.
21.01.2022 The #KollectivOnTour focus changed a little today - but only about 15km. Today was an adventure into my favourite red wine region on the planet - Barolo. A magic wine landscape with magical wines. But what has this got to do with Kollectiv? Stay tuned.
21.01.2022 I got a bit nostalgic on the weekend with the impending birthdays for both my children. I dug into the cellar and pulled out bottles of wine I made for them in their respective birth years back in my Mudgee days. In 2004 I made a single barrel of Shiraz (Syrah) and in 2006 I made a single barrel of Marsanne topped up with some Viognier and Chardonnay (the Cuve). Both are fully mature but drinking pleasingly well at 16yrs and 14yrs respectively. Makes me think I should have another go for you Angels. Anyone interested? Who loves Mudgee?
20.01.2022 Splendid isolation on a glorious autumn day. There has to be an occasional upside to this strange and worrisome world we currently live in. And there is certainly more to life than fermenting grape juice. In our family that something else is generally cycling. Out training on the back roads of Orange with my 15yo son today. He dreams of racing in the Tour de France. I dream of keeping up with him.
19.01.2022 With all the crap that 2020 has brought to us one of the consequences of the bushfires was the grapes in Orange being affected by smoke taint. The level of smoke taint can vary from vineyard to vineyard and from variety to variety from none to severe. The fruit can taste great on the vine but after fermentation can taste like licking an ashtray. It would have been a game of Russian roulette that I was not prepared to play. So, no Kollectiv wine was made this year. But nevermi...nd, nakedwines.com.au have all our current releases in stock and ready for delivery to you including: - 2018 Chardonnay - 2019 Chardonnay - 2019 Syrah - 2019 Bianco - 2019 Rosato - 2019 Rosso Thanks for your support and heres to vintage in 2021! 18.01.2022 After a torrid start to the growing season - cool temperatures, buckets of rain, threatening thunderstorms. It’s great to see the Kollectiv Chardonnay vineyard starting to flower. Be nice Mother Natureplease
18.01.2022 Do you love Chardonnay? Yes! Well, have I got a wine for you. In fact 2. The Kollectiv 2019 Chardonnay has just been released onto the Naked Wines website. As one Angel recently reviewed Love this one! So easy drinking. Light with full flavour. The other wine is the Kollectiv 2018 Chardonnay. Its a year older and there isnt much of it left on the Naked Wines website. As another Angel recently reviewed it lovely crisp white, very soft mouth feel. really enjoyed this wine... and gave it 5 hearts. Both wines are from the high elevation, cool climate region of Orange, both fermented and matured in an huge 3,000 litre French oak foudre (barrel). These are finely crafted premium wines that are serious bargains. They are wines of freshness, vitality, subtle complexity and delicious. If you like your Chardonnay big, rich, oaky then these may not be your cup of tea. But the 2018 is showing a little more fullness and richness. Grab it while you can and enjoy. Go to nakedwines.com.au See more
17.01.2022 #KollectivOnTour more beautiful wine experiences in Barolo today. It is amazing what you can learn from one style of wine and then contemplate applying the lesson to a completely different wine. #KeepAnOpenMind #KeepLearning Kollectiv wines can only keep getting better.
16.01.2022 Brisbane Angels Tasting - great night, thanks for coming and tasting. I had a lot of fun. Cheers
16.01.2022 Sydney Angels Tasting happening now. Dont miss out on Brisbane tomorrow
16.01.2022 Does it suddenly feel like winter? Think red wine. Think Syrah. Think Kollectiv. Available exclusively from naked wines.com.au
15.01.2022 The first of the Italian varietal trio to get a feature is the Kollectiv 2019 Bianco. A blend of Pinot Grigio (or Gris if you are more French inclined), Vermentino and Arneis. Pinot Grigio, which is about 85% of the blend, is a bit ubiquitous in Italy these days but really has its homeland in the cool north east corner under the Dolomite mountains. Now grown in most Australian regions, it has become really popular. Vermentino, about 8% of the blend, is from the Tuscan and Lig...urian coasts on Italys west coast as well as the island of Sardinia. Arneis, about 7% of the blend, is the principal white variety of the Langhe in north west Italy. So we have all the joy of Pinot Grigio but just spiced up a bit with Vermentino and Arneis. Now the Italians would never get these 3 varieties together in the same bottle but nothing stops Australian winemakers coming up with innovative blends such as this. So, is the blend better than a straight Pinot Grigio? I think so - the Vermentino bring some mid-palate juiciness and Arneis, being a bit more tannic and savoury, brings a nice little dry Italian-esque twist to the finish. So, if this sounds like a great summer drink, you are right. Its just been bottled, its fresh and ready to go in your fridge then off to your party, BBQ or picnic. Available exclusively through Naked Wines. See more
14.01.2022 Well the forecast was right - frosty the snowman brought another blast of winter to Orange on the weekend. If you love a good red with the fire burning on a cold winters day, get onto nakedwines.com.au and order your stash of Kollectiv Syrah and Rosso.
13.01.2022 For those Naked Wine Angels that have been following the clues on the upcoming Kollectiv Wines big news, there is only a couple of weeks until the big reveal at the Angels Tastings in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. But todays clue takes a big twist in the plot! What does it mean? #KollectivOnTour
13.01.2022 The second wine in the Kollectiv Italian varietal trio is the 2019 Rosato (Rosato just being the Italian word for rose wine). Those of you who came along to the Angels Tastings in September might have had the chance for a sneak-peak taste. For those that didnt - grab some off the Naked Wines website while it lasts because there were plenty of fans at the tastings. Its a blend of 3 varieties native to central Italy. Sangiovese is the cornerstone of Chianti in Tuscany - a bea...utiful red wine close to my heart after doing 3 vintages in the region. Sangiovese is also the cornerstone of this wine. There is support from Sagrantino, the dark, brooding, tannic variety used in the Umbrian wine Montefalco. And then a bit of Montepulciano, the grape variety from Abruzzo, not to be confused with the Tuscan hill town also called Montepulciano where they grow Sangiovese - confused? Yeah. So mostly Sangiovese with a splash of Sagrantino and Montepulciano to produce a delicious dry rose with lovely red fruit and a typical savoury finish. A little more coloured than the ultra pale versions and a little more more full bodied but incredibly versatile. Its just been bottled so its super fresh and will be a hit all summer long. I hope you enjoy it. Available exclusively through Naked Wines. Cheers, Drew See more
13.01.2022 The side project. Thanks for all the support out there.
12.01.2022 It was International Chardonnay Day this week. What Chardonnay did you celebrate this fantastic variety with? Did you happen to have a Kollectiv Chardonnay in the fridge ready to go? No! Never mind, get a Chardonnay in your glass this weekend. Doesnt matter if its not Kollectiv, but if you need some Kollectiv Chardonnay in your life (which I highly recommend) jump on the Naked Wines website and order some!
12.01.2022 #KollectivOnTour - we have now skipped over the border from Italy to France and into the wilds of one of the forests in the Allier Department - the source of the oak used in those beautiful big French oak foudres that I use for the Kollectiv Chardonnay & Syrah. After 200 years of growing, this is how the barrel making process begins. No need to be concerned about deforestation - these forests are very well managed. #BoutesTour
09.01.2022 So, you may well be wondering why the 3 new Kollectiv wines are all based on Italian grape varieties. Well, back in the early days of my career (before marriage, mortgages and kids) I used to the vintage gypsy thing travelling between Italy and Australia doing alternate vintages. It is one of the great privileges of my life to have spent so much time in the heart of Tuscany, living in a village, making wine, getting to know the locals. I feel in love with Italy, its people... and its wines. In fact, Barolo in north-west Italy is without doubt my favourite red wine region on the planet! So when it came searching for inspiration for the new wines, it was a no brainer. On top of that, I have known a bloke with a vineyard just outside Bathurst for the last 15 years or so, not far from my home base of Orange, who is probably more of an all-things-Italian-nutter than me and planted every vine in his vineyard to Italian varieties. Tony Hatchs Vale Creek Vineyard even has an Italian-style vineyard workers hut. Given Tonys vineyard is pretty small, other vineyards are used to source grapes for these wines but Vale Creek remains the cornerstone of the wines. Stay tuned for more stories about the individual wines. Pic is of Vale Creek a Vineyard. Cheers, Drew See more
09.01.2022 About to arrive for the Sydney Angels Tasting - are you? Im excited to be pouring some new wines.
09.01.2022 Weve got tipsy-turvy weather here in Orange. Snow last weekend, signs of spring this week and now a forecast of snow again next weekend. Cant complain though. We have had terrific winter rain. The ground is sodden, the dams are filling, the creeks are running. This is such a massive relief after last summers diabolical drought, smoke and dust storms. We will keep an eye on Mother Nature and her suggestions of an early spring but its a very promising start to the new cycle of the grape growing and winemaking activity.
08.01.2022 Kollectiv’s brand Ambassador Pip_thesavagesausage is really getting into her new role. Loving the poolside action. Just a shame she can’t get into the Kollectiv Chardonnay. But you can just by jumping on the Naked Wines website. It comes from the cool highlands of Orange in the Central Tablelands of NSW. Grown at 900m above sea level, fermented and matured in an enormous 3,000 litre French oak barrel, and tasting of pristine Chardonnay fruit, with terrific freshness and some savoury complexity - you need some of this for summer. Available exclusively through nakedwines.com.au
08.01.2022 The view from my winemaking desk. Nice to see the sun shining. Love this time of yearwhen the sun shines!
08.01.2022 Say hello to the 2021 Kollectiv Chardonnay. Spring has come early. And the 2021 vintage is already looking a hell of a lot better than 2020. So fingers crossed, all the good things keep happening. In the meantime, there are a few bottles of the 2018 Chardonnay still available and the 2019 will be all gone before the 2021 vintage makes its way to the Naked Wines shelves. So get it while you can. Available exclusively through www.nakedwines.com.au
07.01.2022 If the Chardonnay is out then the Kollectiv Shiraz is not one to be left behind. Despite the early spring, the miserable winter weather did come back to bite us last weekend. We certainly dodged a bullet with an early morning frost threatening the new shoots but the damage looks very minor and inconsequential to vine growth and the crop. So fingers crossed spring stays for good and these shoots keep growing.
07.01.2022 Hi Naked Wines Angels, good news and bad news. The bad news is that the Kollectiv Orange Syrah 2018 is sold out on the Naked Wines website and the 2019 wont be available until early 2020. The good news is that it is sold out. How can this be good news? It confirms to me that the Kollectiv Syrah is a wine that Angels are really enjoying and think its good value. So I would really like to thank all Angels for their support and encouragement - it really is greatly appreciated. Both of the first 2 releases - the 2017 & 2018 vintages have sold out early. So a tip for when the 2020 Kollectiv Syrah is released - jump on it, order without delay to make sure you dont miss out. Cheers, Drew
06.01.2022 Monday morning hint as to what the new Kollectiv Wines will be. Are we getting any closer? The big reveal is coming soon. Who is going to the Angel Tastings in Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne.
06.01.2022 Do you like wines with a bit of difference? Kollectiv Wines has three wines produced from Italian varietals. There is the 2019 Bianco - an aromatic dry white wine made predominately from Pinot Grigio with some assistance from Arneis and Vermentino, the 2019 Rosato - a dry and savoury rose made with Sangiovese and a splash of Sagrantino and Montepulciano and the 2019 Rosso - an aromatic dry red wine, lighter bodied but well balanced for early drinking or a short spell in the fridge on a hot day, a blend of Barbera, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. All are available now and exclusively via nakedwines.com.au
05.01.2022 Ground zero for todays big clue about Kollectiv Wines upcoming new releases #KollectivOnTour
04.01.2022 The calendar says its spring but Mother Nature is the one that really determines when the season changes. After some truly wintry weather in August there are some signs of spring here in Orange. Having said that, I can guarantee that winter has not completely finished with us just yet - there is bound to be at least one last blast. Enjoy the sunshine! Break out the Kollectiv Rosato!
04.01.2022 Easter treats....not that I am religious but its a long weekend and we are all locked up and there are a ridiculous amount of people who are far worse off than us so there are plenty of reasons to be thankful for what we have. Surprisingly we have followed the fish on Friday protocol and cooked an absolutely delicious seafood risotto and paired it with an absolutely awesome wine - Sancerre (one of my favourite wines on the planet) from one of my favourite producers (Alphonse Mellot). Just a little insight into what I like. Whats your easter treat? Happy easter everyone, stay safe, stay at home. Cheers, Drew
03.01.2022 The winter has been kind so far this year. Sure it been cold with plenty of frosty mornings but the sun has been shining and the wind has not blown very often. With almost no wine in the winery (due to the bushfire smoke taint issue) I have picked up the pruning snips for the first time in many years and helping out in the vineyard. Not such a bad thing with the sun on your back and listening to a podcast or two. Luckily I have just enough winery work to do so when the weather turns bad I can dash back inside.
02.01.2022 I get back from the Naked Wines Angels Tasting Tour and look who has popped their head out - hello Kollectiv Syrah 2020!
02.01.2022 More news from the Kollectiv cellar but only good news this time. During the 2019 vintage we embarked on a new range of wines all focussed on Italian varieties. There are 3 wines - Bianco (Italian for white), Rosato (Italian for rose) and Rosso (Italian for red). They have just hit the Naked Wines website. Some Angels got a sneak peak of the Rosato at the recent Angels tasting and the response was great. So check them out. Great summer drinking all round. Cheers, Drew
01.01.2022 Meet Kollectiv’s new brand ambassador - Pippi aka @pip_thesavagesausage (insta) our miniature dachshund. She loves a day at the beach and only wishes she could enjoy a glass of Kollectiv Chardonnay. With summer well on its way, you can do both. The 2018 Kollectiv Chardonnay is fast running out - get it while you can, The 2019 Kollectiv Chardonnay is readily available and drinking brilliantly. Be sure to get your summer supply via nakedwines.com.au
01.01.2022 The Kollectiv foudres stand empty but only until vintage next year.
01.01.2022 How are you getting through this winter of isolation? Its not a great state of affairs and then there is the cold...unless you are north of the Tropic of Capricorn. A glass of wine can improve your day whether you are in lockdown or freezing your butt off. Kollectiv has 5 wines in its range, so something to please most people. There is the flagship Chardonnay and Syrah - printine, highly expressive, single vineyard wines, fermented and matured as a single batch in wonderful... 3,000 litre French oak foudres. And what I call the Italian Trio - the Bianco (Pinot Grigio, Arneis, Vermentino blend), the Rosato (Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Montepulciano blend) and the Rosso (Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto blend) - delicious, great everyday drinking with a bit of a savoury Italian-like twist - something different to spice up your day. I hope you are keeping well whatever circumstances you find yourself in. Stay safe. Reach out for support if you need to. Drink responsibly - drink better wine, not a lot of wine. Kollectiv wines available exclusively through Naked Wines. Thanks for the support. Cheers, Drew
24.12.2021 Hello from a soaked and soggy Central West. Like a lot of places in the south-east of Australia, Orange has copped a fair bit of rain in the last week. And that is after a pretty wet winter and start to spring. The ground is now oozing water, dams are overflowing and creeks and rivers are rising to minor flood levels. On top of that I joined an AWRI & BOM webinar on the weather forecast for the season - cooler than average daytime temps, warmer than average nighttime temps, h...igher than average rainfall, lots of cloudy days. Not your typical blazing Aussie summer! What does this mean for the vines? They probably love it more than we do. Vines are interested in reproduction, not winemaking. They are sending out as many shoots and bunches as possible. So we have lots of extra work to do - removing extra shoots, maybe removing some bunches if the crop is too big, lots of time in the tractor. Vigilance will be key. Lots of preventive work and doing the necessary work at the right time. Disease will be a constant threat. We cannot afford to let our guard down. But the potential for high quality wine is absolutely there. This is why we love winegrowing - it’s exciting but can be a wild ride because we don’t control Mother Nature. I hope you are all surviving the big wet. See more
20.12.2021 The Kollectiv 2021 Barbera has arrived! It might be a one-off, so don’t think about ordering for too long or it will all be gone. Barbera is a delightful red grape from Piedmonte in north-west Italy. The Italians drink this softer, friendlier style while they wait for their Barolo to mature in the cellar. I’ve taken it a bit further and made a juicy red wine lower in tannin and big on approachability so you can enjoy it all through the hot Aussie summer, even giving it a bit of a chill in the fridge. I hope you all enjoy it. Available exclusively through Naked Wines.
08.12.2021 Checking out the Chardonnay and the Riesling vineyards for the 2022 Kollectiv wines on a beautiful spring day in Orange. There is always so much excitement and promise at this time of year - I love it. After the vintage of disappearing grapes in 2021 I am thrilled to have a new source of high quality Chardonnay and to be able to add Riesling (one of the greatest varieties) to the Kollectiv range. Big thanks to Mayfield vineyard and my good friend Charlie Simons for ensuring I have long term access to this wonderful fruit.
21.11.2021 Early reviews of the Kollectiv 2021 Rosé are coming in on the Naked wines website and I am thrilled by the response. Tracie said OMG! I need a full case. This is divine. My absolute favourite Rosé in a long time. Amy was just as pleased, After having French Provincial Rosé I never thought I’d be able to find and truly enjoy a local Rosé again. Until now. And Stuart was bang on with his description, Nice dry style with palate flavours of cherry, blood orange and watermelon with a savoury twist and a crisp finish. Thanks for posting the great reviews. The warm weather is here. Everyday is Rosé day. At $14.99 for Naked Wines Angels we reckon it is a bargain and great value. Available exclusively through Nakedwines.com.au
02.11.2021 Hello Kollectiv 2022 Shiraz. We have a long journey ahead of us and Mother Nature has to be kind to us but I look forward to putting you in bottle in 18 months time so everyone can enjoy your delicious flavours from March 2023 - like I said, it’s a long journey!
30.10.2021 The sun is shining which is great because here in Orange it was snowing on Tuesday morning! It is also great because it is rosé weather. Kollectiv’s brand ambassador pip_thesavagesausage (Insta) can’t wait to get into the new Kollectiv 2021 Rosé which has just hit the Naked Wines website. This pale, dry Rosé is fresh as a daisy and delicious. A blend of Nebbiolo and Arneis, both originating in Piedmonte in Italy’s north-west, it really is something different and Pip absolutely recommends giving it a go. So next time you are ordering, grab a bottle and drink in the sunshine (and no, Pip doesn’t really drink wine, we just think she is cute!). Available exclusively on-line through Naked Wines nakedwines.com.au
19.10.2021 Spring has sprung. We are excited! Canola flowering with Mount Canobolas in the background. No growth in the vines yet but it cannot be far away. Stay tuned.
09.10.2021 Spring has sprung! Well, that’s what the calendar says but when you live in a cool climate region like Orange as soon as you think the cold weather is behind you it has a habit of biting you on the arse. But let’s be optimistic - the sky is blue, the sun has warmth in it and nature does seem to sense that the season is changing if the riot of colour and the bursting of blossoms in my backyard is anything to go by. The vines are still weeks away from showing any new growth but until then I hope these pics bring a warm smile to your day.
25.09.2021 It’s back from bottling and in my hot little hands. The first new Kollectiv wine released in 18 months (thanks 2020 bushfires not). The all new look Kollectiv 2021 Rose. Nebbiolo and Arneis blended into a pale, fresh & delicious wine ready for spring. It will be available exclusively through www.nakedwines.com.au in about a week or so. Get ready!
08.09.2021 It’s here.well almost. It is definitely in the bottle! And it will be available very soon - the Kollectiv 2021 Rose - pale, fresh and delicious. This was my last look at it before it went off bottling. Keep your eye on the Naked Wine website where it will be available exclusively
