22.01.2022 Our REMI and her litter sister PEPPER - 4 years ago on our girls 2nd birthday Miss Pepper was returned to us for re-homing as her family were struggling with a young family. Its always our hope that our puppies get their forever home first go and I take this responsibility in ensuring this very seriously but sometimes its not meant to be. In this case it was a dream come true for Peppers new forever family as they had lost their male bc to cancer and were feeling the emptiness of not having a furkid around & didnt want to start all over again with a puppy!! Pepper now 4 years later a very happy and much loved and spoilt member of her family!! We couldnt ask for more than that!!

21.01.2022 There is no one way to train a dog. In fact there are many ways to get to the desired goal. If you took 10 of the best trainers on the planet none of them would... do things exactly the same. Dogs dont care about your ideology or your biases. They care about the connection and how they feel in your presence. They care about the clarity of your communication and your ability to understand theirs. They care about bettering their situation without harsh consequences. A dog suppressed out of a bad behavior is not a trained dog. A dog scared of making a mistake is not a trained dog. A dog that is confined to to a spot and not allowed to move is not a trained dog. Its our job to bring out the best in each dog. No tool will ever bring out the best in a dog however it can help bring out the best in your training. Unfortunately it can also bring out the worst in your training and exploit your weaknesses and the dog will always pay the price for that. If success is achieved for the LONG TERM with a dog while doing so in a humane way and having compassion for the animal, the road you took to get there is not as important as the achievement. The animal comes first. Not your ego.
21.01.2022 STUMERS CREEK ROAD BEACH, COOLUM - Malt, Meila, Chelsea, Leeroy, Shelby, Georgie, Gus and their humans came too for the day
21.01.2022 There are IDIOTS out there paying $6000-$7000 for BORDADOODLES with no health testing of parents etc. Border Collies are a Group 5 Working dog breed, to pair it to a Poodle which is a Group 7 Non-Sporting Breed should be a crime. These poor pups dont know who they should be. Many designer dogs especially those not even within the same group of breeds are very cross wired mentally that come with lots of issues of anxiety, bad temperaments, allergies to just name a few!! BUY A PEDIGREE DOG THE ORIGINAL DESIGNER DOG

16.01.2022 Are you thinking of buying a doodle, or Cockapoo, or any Poodle cross? Have you got one of these puppies and been told they don't need grooming until they are ...a year old, or that their coat maintenance is easy? If so please read this. (The original post was written by an unknown groomer but I have edited it quite a lot! Please feel free to share.) Poodle crosses (cockapoos, doodles, maltipoos etc.) are not "easy breeds" to maintain. The photo attached (shared from another groomer) shows how matting forms at the skin. By looking at this dog's top coat, you may not see the knots and you may not feel them as you would a knot on the ends of the fur but under that fluffy top layer this is going on. Once it starts its very difficult/ impossible to brush out... and even if you could it would be cruel to put the dog through it. Maintenance at home has to be more than a quick once over for these dogs if you want to keep them in that fluffy coat which was probably one of the reasons you chose a poodle cross in the first place. You really need to sit down with a brush and then a metal comb and make sure you can get it through the entire body at least 2 to 3 times a week. I often feel like owners don't believe groomers when they say their dog has to be clipped very short. I always hear "I know he/she is matted, but leave as much as you can". You cannot clip through matting, you can only clip under it. As this photo shows, clipping under the matting means taking the coat back to the skin. I promise you, your groomer really doesn't want to do this but they won't hurt your dog by putting it through dematting, they also don't want to hurt their reputation when the clients go around complaining about how the last groomer "scalped" their dog but there really is not any alternative. Instead of being angry with your groomer if they clip your dog very short please respect their commitment to do what is in your dog's best interest, accept responsibility for not having brushed your dog properly at home, and work with your groomer because, together, you can prevent this happening again. All groomers will be very happy to demonstrate a technique called line brushing which will help make your grooming at home more effective. Just ask! We all want owners to know how to do this Poodle crosses are easily one of the highest maintenance dogs in reference to their coats. The combination of the soft coat they are mixing poodles with these days is a coat that is extremely prone to matting. If you like a fluffy pup, you probably need to consider no more than 3-5 week intervals between grooming and set aside time for regular brushing AND combing at home. Please know, if you bathe your poodle cross you really need to blow dry and brush out right after. Moisture, be it a bath, rain, swimming, snow etc are all going to make matting worse. If you know your dog is already matted-- bathing is only going to make it worse! Brush out before the bath. Lastly "breeders" who say these dogs can't or shouldnt be clipped and not to give them a hair cut until they are one year old are misleading potential owners in order to sell puppies and setting them up for a sad day when they finally take their pup to the groomer. If this hasn't put you off buying one please schedule your puppy's first groom immediately after they've had their vaccinations and then be prepared to do the maintenance at home between regular professional grooms.

This little girl I struggled with deciding between her and our Remi. Miss Lucy went to live with a lovely family on the Coast to grow up with 2 little girls. We all have busy lives and some of our families we hear from regularly and others we dont but every pup is always in my heart and I never forget to contact every family on our pups ...birthdays and at Christmas!! Lots of love always to Lucy Lilac, Yamma and her family
05.01.2022 As promised my article on - The Young & the Hyperactive dog - How should they be managed? I've been living with Border Collies now since 1992 and there have be...en many!. Over the years I've learnt lots about "Hyperactive adrenaline junkies" as I call them. Every time someone new sees me with the dogs they say "Gee I bet they need a lot of exercise". Its funny how everyone just assumes high energy breed ='s must have lots of high energy exercise! Well this is often the first huge mistake new owners of high energy breeds make! Why? Some dogs get a "high" off the adrenaline that is released by high energy exercise & this is very addictive to these dogs! These high energy dogs often have the ability to go all day once their fitness is built up! So wearing them out becomes impossible! What happens when you can't give them their Adrenaline release for a few days or a few weeks?? They go crazy! Breaking an exercise routine can also cause high stress levels in these dogs. Some of these dogs will have high arousal levels that are redirected to Car Chasing or reacting to dogs barking behind fences etc. So what should we do? The first thing I teach my Border Collie puppies is how to just chill & do nothing! This means I food reward being still & I do this often. I teach them how to be happy & relaxed in a Puppy Pen & Crate. I try & keep exercise calm. Don't let them develop into "Exercise Junkies"! Control high energy exercise like ball throwing & racing around with other dogs. I don't develop a Routine! We all know those dogs who start running around & getting worked up, because they know 5pm is the time you take the dog out for their exercise! I'm very unpredictable when I take the dogs out for exercise & also the type of exercise. Direct your exercise depending on the dog. If your dog is "high as a kite" then going out to the park & throwing the ball for them over & over... Is only going to increase their adrenaline release! Controlled on lead walking maybe a better choice? I want adult dogs who have excellent 'OFF" switches & this is learnt best in the first 12mths of their life. I call it teaching my dogs to be "Lazy" Just lie about on the lounge & do nothing! I can wear a dog out much easier by doing training & working their mind. Dogs need mental stimulation. This is why I love trick training. I also use lots of different food dispensing toys to keep them occupied. I however do require some of my dogs to be very fit for the work they do & hence they do get a huge amount of exercise! But I'm prepared to have high energy Adrenaline Junkies that do require a lot of training. I don't think most people want this...So be careful what you create!! but still my young dogs only get controlled exercise with a "when I feel like it motto" to enhance my OFF Switch when nothing is happening!.
