20.01.2022 Not for the squeemish ;) According to this ABC article we eat, unkowingly, approximately 1 teaspoon of insects per week ...and stockpiling food at home means an increase in weevils and other small critters. We work hard in store to keep bulk foods dry and temperature controlled - which controls weevil numbers without the use of chemicals - but once you get them home you also need to keep the food dry and chilled...otherwise there's a chance it'll start living. Unlikely to make you sick but best avoided if you can :)

We've got working starting this morning on the back warehouse - part of a long term project to offer more storage for store and a space for supporting environmental, social and health activities in our community. We've also got the NBN coming to store today - and that will (soon) mean a live streaming Flood Cam, thanks to support from another local business, Snapfrozen. And if you wondered what the image was - K...ombu is also going to be investing in a soon-to-be-released Air Monitoring station. It will measure air quality outside store in the centre of town, with results available online 24/7 alongside the usual outputs from our weather station (via www.bellingenweather.org) - great if you have concerns about air quality from an environmental or personal health perspective. 20.01.2022 Some exciting news - we're keen to support sustainable transport, and have started discussions with Bellingen Council regarding the possibility of installing a sponsored Electric Vehicle Charging Station outside the store. We'd initally be offering the power free of charge through opening hours to support the industry, and will also be looking at the options for an electric bike charging station to the side of the store. We'll be working to ensure that as much of the power as possible comes from our solar panels on the roof

19.01.2022 The new soccer season kicks off this weekend across the Mid North Coast - and we'll see the largest-ever number of children representing Bellingen. This is fantastic for their mental and physical wellbeing. We're very proud to be able to support the teams with new shirts (made from 100% recycled materials) - and from the feedback so far the children are very happy with them too! 05.01.2022 We've got some delicious new chemical-free eggs into store from a fantastic regenerative family farm. The first batch of Chef to Farmer eggs were hand-delivered into store by the family, and we look forward to working with them and supporting them as they develop the farm over the coming years. In their words: "We ran the farm which supplied directly to our café and a handful of local businesses. Soon we realised farming, regenerative, pasture raised & ethical produce felt go...oood! After studying holistic, regenerative farming we stepped these practices up even more. Moving the chickens onto fresh pasture twice a week, moving our 40 head of cattle daily and our heritage breed pigs weekly to improve not only the health of the animals, health of our produce but the health of our soil. We do not use any chemicals and only natures fertiliser our now 1200 chickens do an amazing job producing & spreading this around our property. We have recently sold our café to focus on our farm, and getting our produce into the bellies of our local community and beyond as we believe in the health benefits of our nourishing produce. We've got all the popular lines due back next week, together with a new razor - yep, we've become razor nerds . Check this one out This razor is slightly heavier than most safety razors at 100g and is beautifully finished in an unusual brown marble effect. The great news - we're getting seedling deliveries twice a week with the next one into store on Monday, and we've also got our biggest ever Eden Seed and Select Organic seed order on its way. Every variety available will be into store approximately Monday 21st September
