01.01.2022 NAREMBEEN Rabbit Proof Fence - Gate 54 The rabbit proof fence was originally built between 1901 and 1907 to prevent invading rabbits and other vermin entering t...he grain growing region of WA. The longest fence in the world spanned a distance of 1,827km, all the way from Port Hedland to Ravensthorpe. Much of this fence has now undergone maintenance but parts of the original fencing still remain today. The 'Gate 54' section of the rabbit proof fence is located approximately 70kms east of Narembeen and is an interesting place to visit and stop for a picnic, while exploring the 'Pathways to Wave Rock' self-drive trail.
