25.01.2022 Some more great weather ahead for clearing your property from fire hazards and having a burn off. Please follow the simple guidelines below to burn safe.
24.01.2022 Due to COVID we are still unable to attend the station or community events like we used to. We are however still on call for emergency response 24 / 7. Stay safe everyone.
24.01.2022 The humble fire extinguisher, one small thing that can stand between a small fire , some inconvenience and losing a lot more. Even a small extinguisher can slow the spread of fire, buy you some time before fire brigades arrive and even put out a fire altogether. Extinguishers come in many sizes and types and can cost between $40 to $100 but that is a small price to pay for peace of mind. If you already have one please check that it has enough pressure ( there is a gauge on the top ), it has not been discharged and that it is in an easily accessible location.

24.01.2022 Our members started doing some essential training today so we are prepared for the coming fire season, while maintaining social distancing and keeping each other safe. We are looking forward to engaging with our community again when we can , stay safe and look after each other
22.01.2022 Let’s all take 60 seconds out of our busy day tomorrow to remember
22.01.2022 Thank you to our volunteer dads who often leave families to attend emergencies. May your pagers be quiet today.
21.01.2022 Still nice weather for cleaning up and burning off. Just watch the windy days and please register your burn off to avoid our volunteers being turned out unnecessarily.
19.01.2022 Stay warm but keep your family safe...
19.01.2022 It’s that time of year for dryer fires. Ensure you clean your lint filter every use, do not have anything on top of the dryer and never leave the dryer going if you are not at home. Stay safe.
19.01.2022 Great weather for cleaning up your property. South Gippsland Shire tips are accepting free green waste, contact them for more info. If you don’t live in residential zoned land you can burn off. Please register your burn to avoid us being called out unnecessarily.
18.01.2022 Yesterday our brigade supported Glen Alvie at a escaped burn off , as you can see the grass looks green but the fire spread from dry matter under the grass. Please when you are burning off ensure there is a clear area around the burn , you have adequate water and the ability to control the burn . Please monitor the burn and report it to 000 if it gets out of your control so we can attend quickly and reduce any risk of the fire spreading . Everything is drying off quite quickly now so please clean up around your property and stay safe.
17.01.2022 Wild weather out there tonight! Trees down, power lines down, roads blocked plus many road hazards! SES, CFA, Police, SP Ausnet and other agencies all very very very busy. stay home stay safe.
17.01.2022 Too windy to burn today! Please check previous burns to make sure they are safe as wind can flare them up again.
16.01.2022 Brigade (past) member profile - Alan Alan and his family have now moved to a different area, but during his time in the brigade not only did he make a valued contribution to our community, he also gained experience that set him up for other opportunities in life. "I am now a volunteer to the Victorian fire and rescue squad and we provide fire and rescue services to the racing industry. Predominantly Phillip Island GP circuit and Sandown international raceway. We also do the... F1 GP with other volunteers who do fire, medical, track intervention (clean up and other track duties), flag marshals, radio opps and spectator intervention. Around 1000 volunteers dedicate their time to make the event safe and successful. I have found everyone to be so friendly and willing to pass on their knowledge and are like a family just like we do and are in the CFA. I have been to a few small incidents at races and 1 large crash at the Sandown 500 last year. Luckily enough there were no serious injuries. It's a fun and rewarding experience. If anyone wants to know how to volunteer to do this the squad are always looking for people, and the same for flags and medical". You never know where your CFA skills can take you.
16.01.2022 Some news to help absentee land owners make their property fire safe.
15.01.2022 DAYLIGHT SAVINGS REMINDER This Sunday the 4th October @ 2am, we will turn out clocks forward by one hour. 15.01.2022 Smoke detectors have been proven to save lives... change your clock change your smoke alarm battery.
12.01.2022 Meet the brigade member : Mungo When home from work, Mungo is our firefighter who lives closest to the station. Outside of CFA he is a lighting designer who does everything from lighting props and effects, through to pretty much every other stage effect in a show, for the likes of MelbourneTheatre Company. This can involve plumbing in water systems to create rain, pressurised "blood" effects, lighting fire gels and flashpapers as well as handling and operating larger stage m...achinery like stage revolves and other automation elements (doors, lifts, moving floors etc). Basically if it lights up, moves, goes bang or disappears, he's your man! "Similar to the CFA, that team dynamic is so important to get you through long haul production weeks, working 14 hour days, 6 days a week for weeks on end. The days get a lot shorter when you've got a crew you can have a laugh with", said Mungo. Skills gained from being a CFA volunteer can be very useful in other areas of your life, and likewise the skills you bring to the brigade are greatly valued. Well done Mungo See more
12.01.2022 A prime example of one of the dangers firefighters face on the foreground each year. Everyone in the brigade is trained to find dangerous trees and exclude people from the area to ensure everyone is safe until the tree can be felled or pushed over by an excavator. Our training and preparation helps keep us safe, will you be prepared for this fire season- go to the CFA website to find out more. This video was from California where they continue to deal with a large amount of fires started by lightning , our thoughts go out to our family of firefighters in the US and hoping everyone comes home safely.
11.01.2022 Very dissapointing to hear some louts have stolen from one of our Group assets. Our volunteers spend a lot of time applying for grants and fundraising to help our communities. Please be vigilant around our area for any suspicious behaviour.
10.01.2022 So over the last week we asked you to look outside your property to see if we could find you by your property number being clearly marked? We hope you did this. This week please ask yourself if we would fit in your property and up your driveway? Help us to help you.
09.01.2022 Members of the brigade were delighted to receive some lovely cards of appreciation from some local twins, which depicted some of the joys and dramas of life in Kongwak CFA. They were passed around at this weeks' meeting, read and enjoyed by all. Community appreciation is one of the many reasons our volunteers enthusiastically turn out to emergencies without a second thought.
09.01.2022 Even though we are enjoying this lovely rain at the moment it is a timely reminder of a couple of things , 1 we are in our fire danger period at the moment and even though things look nice and green you are not permitted to light a fire outside unless it's for warmth or cooking (but not at all during a total fire ban day) you can however apply for a permit to burn if you have to by going to the Fire Permits Victoria website then getting it approved by CFA. Permits come with t...he responsibility of constantly monitoring the burn, having the ability to be able to put it out ,logging the burn with CFA so that brigades do not get called out when it isn't needed and checking the burn site after it has been put out . 2 after the hectic harvest season which is still going on why don't you take advantage of the rainy day and do a check on your stored hay and make sure it does not feel warm, bales are starting to lose shape ( microbes are breaking down the structure of the bale) or the bales are starting to smell different which are all indicators of high microbial activity in the bale that can lead to spontaneous combustion that can cause a huge loss of fodder and damage to sheds and equipment. Stay safe ,keep a weather eye out and look out for each other ( file photo)
08.01.2022 Due to reduced fire risk the CFA are ending the Fire Danger Period at 1am tomorrow, Monday 15th March. There will still be days and situations of high fire danger depending on conditions, so it is important to remain vigilant and stay safe. Residents will be able to burn off again, after checking that conditions are safe and notifying Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority on 1800668511. When burning off;... Remain alert and always have resources on hand to extinguish the fire. Check fire restrictions in your area and always register your burn at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au. Check and monitor weather conditions particularly wind. To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand. Leave a three-metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn. Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading. Never leave a burn-off unattended stay for its entire duration. If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately. See more
06.01.2022 Like our friends at Vicpol say.... Cmon Victoria... We got this! Stay Safe and mask up.
05.01.2022 CFA have provided a permit to burn a large Cyprus pile at 8265 Bass Highway Leongatha South. The burn is expected to be lit tomorrow morning 22nd Dec and will b...e visible from the Highway and surrounding areas. It is expected to burn for a number of days depending on the weather. The landowner will be required to monitor this burn. See more
05.01.2022 Tonight we joined with Glen Alvie brigade at the Pioneer reserve in Kongwak to improve our awareness of dangerous trees and how to deal with them on the fireground. Some great discussions were had on what to look for and how we identify and exclude trees to keep our crews safe. #weworkasone#knowfire
04.01.2022 On this day 12 months ago some of our members were in east Gippsland assisting in the firefighting effort around Ensay , Anglers rest ,Bruthen and further afield at Bendoc . Those days seem a loooong time ago now after what has happened during this year past but it is a reminder of how things can change very quickly so as ever we are ready to face any challenges that might come our way . Stay safe and be prepared#knowfire
04.01.2022 This means fire! Please have a professional inspect and clean your chimney at least annually. Chimney fires spread very quickly through your roof space. Stay warm but stay safe.
03.01.2022 Looking for a sustainably sourced real Xmas tree. Help our friends at Ruby out by purchasing one from them for their annual fundraiser.
02.01.2022 Great to see our group message sign spreading the word at the Leongatha South fire station. This equipment is owned and managed by local volunteer brigades, not Vicroads or council. While we've had a lot of rain, fires can easily spread under the right conditions.
02.01.2022 We know our brigade and community are great but now they are shouting it from the hills, look out Hollywood!!! Picture credit/ Christian Tabacco
02.01.2022 Are you bored during lockdown? Why not have a look at access to your property during an emergency. Can we and other emergency services identify your property from the road day and night? Can we fit our big trucks up your driveway? Help us to help you.
01.01.2022 If you need help from any emergency service then they need your help to be able to locate you. Walk out the front of your property and ask yourself Can they find me? Large clear numbers that are reflective are the best.
