16.01.2022 On the occasion of Navratri, Amchi Melbourne Konkani Association proudly presents an evening of Classical sangeet with talented Sitar artist, Ankush Nayak, disc...iple of Ustad Rafique Khan. Ankush Nayak, hailing from Mangalore, is the son of educationists Mr. Narendra L Nayak and Mrs. Ushaprabha N Nayak. He is a technologist, researcher and musician, and has several achievements to his credit in all these fields. He started learning the Sitar at the tender age of 9 from Ustad Rafique Khan, a sixth generation Khandani Sitarist of the Dharwad Gharana. Ankush has also taken lessons in Carnatic music taala system from Ghatam maestro Vidwan Trichy K R Kumar. He has also been trained by the legendary Sarod Artist Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta, as a junior scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata. Important Awards and Credentials Avinash Hebbar Memorial Yuva Puraskar (2018). B-high grade conferred by All India Radio and Doordarshan (national television channel of India). First place in All India Radio National Music Competition 2009. Ravi Koppikar Award 2010 conferred by International Foundation for Fine Arts Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award - 2011 First prize in International Students Got Talent 3 (2014) at the University of Arizona.. First place in state level Kalaprathibotsava 2003 & 2008 conducted by Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Govt of Karnataka. First place in state level Youth Festival conducted by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India. First place in South India level competition at Chennai. National Award Title ‘Kala Aparanji‘ conferred by Kannada Makkala Mane, Bangalore. She migrated to Australia with her parents 50 years ago in 1971, at the time when the term ‘multiculturalism’ had not yet been coined. Since those first she has watched Australia change enormously, becoming more and more diverse with people migrating here from every part of the globe. She studied biochemistry and eventually became a true Wyndham l...ocal when she moved here with her husband to serve as lecturer/senior lecturer at Victoria University for over two decades before she retired. Her passion is service - especially to the most needy. She believes in Karma Yoga (selfless action for the benefit of others) or For it is in giving that we receive St. Francis of Assisi. Her contributions to the Wyndham community have been through volunteering in various community organisations such as Community Aid Abroad, Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning, Rotary Club, Salvation Army, Uniting, Wyndham City Council and The Smith Family. GHARS volunteers will support this initiative, all other are welcome to do some service, work permits will be provided when required.
