25.01.2022 Three Spirit-Lifting Ways To Boost Your Confidence After Its Been Crushed If you lose your job it is understandable if you feel totally crushed and devastated. Regardless of the reason, being told that youre no longer needed by an organisation can damage your spirit and obliterate your confidence. While this experience or others like it takes some time to overcome, there are three powerful ways you can dramatically boost your confidence, starting today.... Step Back And Remember Who You Were Before This We humans tend to see only what is happening right now. Once youve experienced a blow, we lose sight of who we are and who we were bright, committed, talented, gifted, contributive, and deserving of being highly cherished and valued. If youve had a tough experience recently like a redundancy or being stood down, try and take a step back and take a look at the long arch of your life so far. Remember what youre great at, what youve achieved and stood for and accomplished, and get going reviving your connection to the power of who you are, authentically. This experience does not define you or your capabilities Connect With People Who Adore You If youve been dealt a tough hand, reach out to the recruiter who placed you. They must have rated you really highly! Dont wait get back in touch with all those people who think the sun rises and sets on you. Friends, former bosses, colleagues any and all people in your life who know what youre capable of and see your amazing potential. Tell them what youre going through, and ask for their support. Open up, be vulnerable and share how you really feel, and allow them to help you pick yourself up by the bootstraps and get moving toward something youll love again. Make A Fearless Inventory Of What You Have To Offer If you are someone who has not engaged in networking or building their digital profile or personal brand for years - start now! Youve been way out of touch, out of sight, and out of mind, basically invisible to thousands of former friends, colleagues and potential employers and collaborators. Change that. Spend a weekend writing down all the jobs youve ever held, from age 18 onward, and examine what you loved, hated, never want to do again, and would love to bring forward in a deeper way, in the next chapter of life and work. Think about what values are important to you. Consider the roles, achievements, and contributions youve delivered. Determine the ones you are most proud of and would like to leverage going forward. Then, build your LinkedIn profile sharing the highest version of yourself. Start talking about yourself in a very positive way (even though your ego still feels bruised), and share with others exactly what you have to offer that could contribute to the world in a meaningful way.

24.01.2022 Jobseekers: are you addressing your perceived red flags at interview, or trying to pretend they’re not there? We’ve all been there and thankfully these so-called red flags (short stints with a company, time spent out of work, and so on) are finally becoming normalised. But, rightly or wrongly, they’re going to raise questions from employers. So it’s on you to use this as an opportunity to address them head-on. Take control of that particular conversation, and you’ll soo...n be using it to your advantage. In Wednesday’s post we’ll discuss exactly how. #Konnexus #hiring #jobseekertips #jobhunting #interviewhelp #interviewtips

21.01.2022 When you work from home, you can sometimes fall into the trap of not taking adequate breaks, stopping work when you should or poor sleep patterns such as going to bed later than you normally would. Wellbeing and resilience experts recommend reinvesting the time youd normally spend commuting to exercise and commit to daily relaxation. It is crucial to look after your mental health by doing things like maintaining a healthy routine like you would if you were going into an offi...ce. A structured day is really good for peoples mental wellbeing. Set an alarm (if required) to remind yourself to take short, frequent breaks, which are more beneficial than long, infrequent ones.

20.01.2022 TIPS FOR | looking after your mental health during this time from Beyond Blue: Media coverage: find a healthy balance and limit news and social media if you and your family find it too distressing. Sources of information: access credible information from government and health authorities (i.e. Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Australian Government and World Health Organisation (WHO)).... Maintain perspective: remember that experts around the world are working hard to help. Also, while coronavirus can affect anyone, those with the disease havent done anything wrong so dont make assumptions. Stay calm and be practical: follow advice from credible sources (see above), and resist the urge to panic, as this makes it harder for authorities to manage the outbreak effectively. Stay connected and/or seek support: keep in touch with your family, friends, colleagues or professional support services by phone, video call, social media or email. Stick to a routine: aim to get plenty of sleep, maintain physical activity, eat healthy foods and allocate specific work hours and breaks. Stay curious about your new experience and how you can use it develop healthy habits. #getintouch #staysafe #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealthmatters

20.01.2022 ALTHOUGH | it is an economically uncertain time, people are still keeping an eye on the job market. There may be less volume, but there are still good opportunities to be found. But when resignations are given, employers and managers are blindsided When they are looking to move on, some people make it clearly evident, revelling in telling you they have yet another doctors appointment and suddenly start dressing to impress. Others are not so keen to signpost their departu...re, and it is easy to overlook the subtle signs they are about to say goodbye. Here are four signs to look out for, so you keep your best talent in any market. 1. They no longer volunteer Now many of us are working remotely, it is possibly more difficult to see the signs. But has your team go-getter gone quiet? Have they stopped coming up with new ideas and bringing initiatives to the table? If so, there could be trouble. Be more aware on your virtual catch-up. Is anyone taking a backseat, not making recommendations and or bringing ideas on projects and initiatives? If so, this is a huge red flag. They may not be actively job hunting, but a shift has taken place. They are wanting to distance themselves from the future path and not make ongoing commitments 2. No talk of the future If a team member is no longer talking about medium-to-longer term plans, it could mean they are planning their exit strategy. Someone who is engaged in your team will talk about the day-to-day, but also what is going on in the future. They are involved in conversations about deadlines, projects, product launches and are front-and-centre in dialogue about pressing deadlines and challenges facing the team. If they are not, it could mean they do not mean to be part of the team for much longer. Lack of passion When people mentally moving on, the work inevitably matters less to them. There could be a decrease in quality, but also the spark you have come to know and love can disappear. They shift from engaging, pushing back, asserting their thoughts to silently carrying out their tasks with little or no discourse. Team members who are engaged, will bring their own thoughts to the table, even pushing the barriers of constructive feedback. People with an eye on the door, will no longer be interested and the fire has gone. The team notices Your other team members are a good barometer. If they start expressing concern, noticing the drop in engagement, you should take this seriously. Your team are more likely to be intuitive when something is not quite right. As we all know, good colleagues who make your day better are a massive bonus. They also have a vested interest in keeping good people around them, so take their feedback seriously if you want to keep your best performers. If someone in your team is quieter than usual, check in with them today. It could be the difference between keeping them and losing them to another organisation

20.01.2022 EVERYONE | is in the midst of prepping for video interviews. Here are some six key tips to ensure success. 1. Set Up Test that your microphone, speakers and camera are working.... 2. Where To Look Look into the camera, rather than at the interviewer or the interviewee, this way it will appear like you are looking at them. 3. Connection Check your internet connection, close-down unnecessary programs and web pages and make sure you are not downloading, installing or need to run updates. 4. Do Not Disturb Ideally find a place where you feel completely at ease and where you can speak freely and comfortably without fear of interruptions or distractions. 5. Surroundings Be mindful of your backdrop in terms of what is in the frame. Consider your position and check your lighting. 6. Appearance Just because you are at home does not mean you do not need to look the part. You should dress exactly as you would for an in-person interview. Psychologically, you will feel more ready too.

19.01.2022 Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath will be one of the biggest business challenges of our time. To keep operations going while minimizing the risk to employees, most companies have adapted new ways of working that have left their offices, factories, stores and other facilities relatively empty. Amid mounting economic turmoil, executives are increasingly guarded in their outlookonly one in five chief financial officers surveyed by PwC said they believed their c...ompanies could resume business as usual within a month if the crisis ended today Management teams bear the primary responsibility for navigating their companies through this disruption. It will be up to them to determine how and when to start the complex task of returning to the workplace once government restrictions are lifted. But boards of directors also have a role. In order to perform their essential oversight duties, corporate boards need to understand the problems their executives are focused on solving as they chart a course to take their workforces from crisis to recovery. That will allow directors to serve as an invaluable sounding board for managementand also enable them to ask the right questions about the companys plans What are you companys plans?

Back scratches, nose boops and snack deliveries have now been perfected Rina: Week one of home-schooling 2.0 is done and we are both smiling...for now What is your experience?

18.01.2022 It is lovely to receive a little loyal support when you are working from home. Some, though, are a little bit over-enthusiastic! Who has your back?

18.01.2022 How to address a red flag on your resume at interview stage: Get in there first. The longer you wait, the more time an interviewer may spend wondering and drawing the wrong conclusions. Talk less about what happened, and more about what you learned instead. However short-lived an opportunity may have been, every day’s a school day.... Make no excuses. Enough said. 15.01.2022 What are your plans for the weekend? How about using your daily allocated hour of exercise to take your favourite Poochie for a stroll. Theres nothing like an exercise partner whos waiting by the door with a wagging tail to keep you motivated!

15.01.2022 Most of us, even the most experienced of us, struggle with public-speaking anxiety. Here are a couple of key tips to help you speak with confidence When youre preparing, think about your audience. When we start preparing for a presentation, the mistake we all make is starting with the topic. This immediately gets us inside the details and makes it harder to break down the wall between us and others. Instead, start with the audience. Before diving into the information, ask... yourself: Who will be in the room? Why are they there? What do they need? Be specific in your answers. Identify the audiences needs, both spoken and unspoken, and craft a message that speaks directly to those needs Right before you speak, refocus your brain You are the most nervous right before you speak. This is the moment where your brain is telling you, Everyone is judging me. What if I fail? And it is exactly at this moment that you can refocus your brain. Remind yourself that you are here to help your audience. Be firm with your brain. Tell yourself, Brain, this presentation is not about me. It is about helping my audience. Over time (usually between four and six presentations), your brain will begin to get it, and you will become less nervous. While youre speaking, make eye contact One of the biggest mistakes we make is speaking to people as a group. We scan the room trying to look everyone at once and end up connecting with nobody In reality, each person in the room is listening to you as an individual. And so the best way to connect to your audience is by speaking to them as individuals. How? By making sustained eye contact with one person per thought. By focusing at one person at a time, you make each person in the room feel like you are talking just to them. What techniques do you use when public speaking?

14.01.2022 Searching for a job is like being on a roller coaster. The competition is huge, youre very likely to make a serious mistake or two in your job search (youre only human). The lack of callbacks and interviews (and abundance of rejection) can get you down, its perfectly normal to feel frustrated and defeated at times. And although an unsuccessful job search can be frustrating, accepting any old job or giving up altogether and consoling yourself with a tub of ice cream isnt t...Continue reading

12.01.2022 3 STEPS TO BOOSTING YOUR CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE STEP 2 Review your hiring process from start to finish, including the teammates involved and timelines. Has it been designed with the candidate in mind, rather than your convenience?... Putting the jobseeker at the forefront before you even begin a recruitment campaign will give their experience a boost they just don’t know it yet! #Konnexus #hiring #recruitment #candidateexperience #candidate #leadership

12.01.2022 Bravery. Its a word very seldom used at work. Most often, we imagine a masked hero swooping into save the day; not an every day person flying in to disrupt an industry. In fact, bravery is rarely attributed to career progression at all Instead, we lean on words like productivity, efficiency, and diligence. These words show up at project reviews, get reflected in KPIs, and are rewarded at salary review time. But bravery matters. It trumps traditional workplace attribute...s by creating a new mode of operation; one that uncovers exciting opportunities and takes them for a spin Before we get stuck into how to be brave, lets focus on why it matters. Successful people exude this quality, repeatedly. For example, take Richard Branson. You know his name because as an innovator, he has made a habit of being courageous: not only to see innovative opportunities in the first placebut to have the tenacity to see his crazy ideas through So, lets all agree that starting today, well wear our capes to work more often

12.01.2022 WE | had a little round robin this week to see what working from home meant to the team Here's what they said Jeff: It may sometimes feel monotonous and at times overwhelming, but it does give you more time with those you love ... Zoë: In addition to my day job, I have now honed my dog-butler skills. Back scratches, nose boops and snack deliveries have now been perfected Rina: Week one of home-schooling 2.0 is done and we are both smiling...for now What is your experience?

11.01.2022 Lets talk about the R word. Coping when youve been made redundant is not an easy process. But you can turn the dark cloud, quite quickly into a positive opportunity, once youve worked out what to do next. Redundancy really can be as much an opportunity as a disappointment. For many people the first reaction to the news is shock, most of us work hard and do our jobs to the best of our ability, so to be told that you are no longer required, can come as a nasty surprise an...d even have physical effects. Other emotions and reactions commonly surrounding redundancy include disbelief, anger, withdrawal and denial These reactions are all perfectly understandable, but it is how you deal with them that can really make the difference to your experience of life after redundancy. You wont immediately find the answers to the redundancy issues that face you but as time goes on you will gain the strength to start thinking positively about the future and even making plans for life after redundancy. Time to grieve for your lost job is important but, when you are ready take the necessary steps to move on. Has anyone been made redundant and what did you do to move on?

11.01.2022 A big thank you to Pitcher Partners who invited us on Friday for the Melbourne South East property breakfast preparing for 2020, looking at the future of property and the market. We heard from Fiona Nield, Executive Director Housing Industry Association (HIA) Victoria; Glenn Patterson, CEO City of Casey; Ben Cooper, Managing Director Cameron and David Knowles, Partner of the Melbourne firm. Our clients enjoyed it greatly!

11.01.2022 How to make the most of your weekend to job search Stay on top of your go-to sites. Sure, there wont be a lot of new jobs posted over the weekend. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt keep an eye on your alerts and even consider responding to any that might come up. Its a competitive market out there and someone is working harder at getting hired than you are ... Use the time to play catch up. Maybe youve been so busy all week that the alerts and opportunities are piling up. Use the weekend to catch up and respond. Clear out your alerts, do a few searches, and send out those networking emails. Go into Monday fresh and up to speed Review your progress. Look back on the week before. How did you do? Whats working/not working? Take this time and space to evaluate your progress and make any necessary adjustments. Remember to weekend. It is still your weekend. Be sure not to burn out by spending the entire time job searching. Do something weekendy! Clean house. Are your documents all in order? Make your desk a calming and productive space where you can get in, do your thing, and get out efficiently. Dial back your search. Follow the quality vs. quantity rule and prune your list down to jobs you actually qualify fornot just partial possibles. Putting more energy into fewer applications might actually get you a job a lot faster Follow up. You might not expect to reach anyone over the weekend, but its a good time to chart who youve heard back from and who you should nudge. You could even write your emails and save them in your drafts folder to send mid-morning Monday

11.01.2022 Whilst people are self isolating, here are some tips on how to make the most of working from Stay safe.

10.01.2022 Lets talk about procrastination. It isnt just a human problem. Newtons First Law of Motion says that a body at rest will stay at rest until compelled to do otherwise. Dare we say it? The entire universe procrastinates But just because procrastination is universal doesnt mean its a good idea. And too often, we find ourselves procrastinating when we know we shouldnt. We think I should really be working," as we flick aimlessly through Facebook, stand in front of the o...pen fridge for the fourth time in an hour, or realize were watching paint dry on YouTube Procrastination can also go beyond work, affecting other important parts of our lives. Not getting that irritating symptom checked out leaves an unknown disease untreated. Avoiding a difficult conversation only prolongs the conflict. And delaying an important life decision, making a serious commitment, or finally changing career paths, can lead to not making changes for years. In the end, we kick ourselves. We regret the time wasted as deadlines approach, time runs out, and opportunity slips through our fingers Why do we do this to ourselves? The solution seems so simple: Just do it! Simple eh? But reality is far more complicated, and to make matters worse, procrastination is in our very genes The tendency to procrastinate runs in families, and is linked on the genetic level to impulsivity, creating a catch-all of difficulty regulating our own behaviour. To top it all off, a study in the journal Psychological Science notes that procrastination is, unfortunately, a lifelong trait. So what does that mean for us procrastinators? Are we doomed to a lifetime of whiling away hours of absently watching 80s music videos on YouTube? Fortunately, no. Just like the inhibited among us can practice loosening up, and those prone to worry can learn to let go, those of us who procrastinate can find our own strategies to help us focus and resist our impulses. How do you pull yourself out of procrastination mode? Lets share our experiences and make 2020 our best year yet!

06.01.2022 With much of the globe self-isolating, many people must suddenly manage the complexities of working from home while sharing a crowded space Kitchens, dining rooms and other spaces have become offices for remote work with computers and cords dominating what was, until very recently, private space For people with children, these spaces are also being used for activities and home-schooling with everyone trying to remain productive in the middle of the chaos of competi...ng demands Here are a few tips to help you beat the chaos. Create a proper workspace Assign designated areas to each person, giving everyone a sense that they belong in the newly shared space. Then set clear boundaries for personal space. If you are using the phone or videoconferencing, your work may be loud and disruptive. If this is the case make sure your area has a door. For quiet work that requires concentration, ear plugs or headphones with white noise may be needed Take some time to set up a workable space for success Designate a work-free zone If you have areas of your home for family activity, like a family or cinema room, make it a work-free zone. In smaller homes, this could be the bedrooms or even a table where you can play games and puzzles. Create a corner with books and drawing materials for the kids. Designating a space that is not for work is part of creating healthy work-life boundaries for psychological wellness Take a break To successfully work from home, regular breaks are the key. It keeps your mind fresh but it also signals to others that wellness is important. 05.01.2022 LEADING | a remote team has become the new norm. But how good are you at leading your team if youre honest? Managing people who are working from home is much more challenging than in the traditional office setting. If youre leading a remote team, its vitally important to make sure you have, the skills it takes to be an effective remote leader. 1. Communicate ... Clear communication is paramount, especially when your only contact with a team member is by email, text, phone, or video chat. Theres a much greater danger that you or your team member could either misunderstand each other or miss out on vital information. Begin by making sure to schedule regular check-ins and talking by phone or video on a regular basis. And if youre in any doubt, work with your fellow managers to ensure your communication skills are as good as they can be. 2. Be Consistent Again, this is always vitally important, but especially when managing remote employees. If you cancel calls a few times due to a busy schedule, they may misinterpret the meaning. Its easy for people who are stuck working at home to feel cut off and insecurity is more prevalent. If they know what to expect from you at all times, and can rely on you, it will help them keep their security.

Youll know how I felt if youve tried it J...eff Bonnin: We love the colourful vibes of Hoi An, Vietnam #familytime #holidayfun #fridaythoughts

03.01.2022 So lets consider the future of work. According to Gallups State of the Global Workplace report, 51% of workers said they werent engaged with 17% saying they were actively disengaged. So what can improve these dismal stats and increase productivity and workplace happiness? The answer is office design. With the way we work changing, where we work needs to keep up. According to the authors of Ethonomics: Designing For The Principles Of The Modern Workplace, the slump in ...our offices solved by taking a different approach to design Number #1. Effective use of space Your employees dont need a lavish multi-story office to feel more productive; you just need to be creative with your space. By having access to natural light, collaborative spaces and private meeting rooms, youll increase employee satisfaction and productivity. People will feel free to move around and wont feel tied to their desks, creating more opportunities for creative collaboration Number #2. Productivity By having workplaces that are beautiful and interesting, employees become more productive. Dingy lighting, isolating cubicles and colourless offices all work together to create an environment that is uninspiring and off-putting. Investing in the ambiance of your office will change the overall mood. People will look forward to coming to work instead of counting down the minutes to freedom Number #3. Collaboration Innovative workplaces shake things up. They smash glass ceilings and break the mold of what is expected. As a result, employees in this environment adapt the same attitude. They are more creative, different departments are bouncing off ideas, and people are coming together instead of working in silos to solve problems

02.01.2022 Many of us are into week three or four of working from home. The novelty has worn off and thoughts are turning to the preservation of mental health People can be feeling lonely, disconnected from their friends and family, struggling to stay motivated or unable to switch off from work. A number of people we have spoken to have mentioned struggling to sleep and generally feeling panicked To help preserve your wellbeing there are a few things you could do to try and help yo...urself and those around you: Set up your day Create some strong routines for yourself (and your team). Create regular start and finish times and ensure you have regular breaks (with some fresh air) It is important to create boundaries between home and work (now they are intertwined). A few people have mentioned they are creating cues, such as changing into more casual clothes at the end of the working day Work spaces Studies show that working from home can impact your quality of sleep. Those who struggle to switch off from work, can be especially effected. Try to avoid setting up your work space in your bedroom. Associating it with work will keep you awake and the brain switched on when it needs to rest Stay in touch with your team We need to be proactive when staying in touch with your colleagues. Maintaining your positive relationships will help reduce anxiety, feelings of isolation and being productive. At Konnexus we connect on Microsoft Teams twice daily (9am and 4pm). We chat about what weve been focusing on and whatever is on our minds (family, weather, pets, news and kids). Digital detox Try and put your phone down when youve finished work. Technology is making it so much easier to stay in touch across the globe. But the negative side is that it makes it hard to disconnect and focus on things outside work. Put the technology to one side at a fixed time and focus on your family or do fun things for yourself. Think of the positive side Whilst it is difficult to see all the silver linings, there are a few benefits to working from home. No commute, less stress, increased productivity (for some) and you even get to escape the most challenging people in the office!
