25.01.2022 Hello Kookaburra families, It's been a long time between visits and we wanted to take a moment to let you know we haven't forgotten you and update you on our plans. Unfortunately playgroup will not resume in Term 4, although we are working towards being able to meet and play together again in February 2021. Beginning in October we'll be offering weekly online story time and a craft pack to go along with the book of the week. Craft packs will contain all the things you need fo...r the activity except for things we assume you have at home like scissors and glue. If you're interested in receiving a craft pack, or have any other questions or thoughts please email me at [email protected] or call the centre on 4759 2592 and leave a message and I'll get back to you. To give you an idea of what online story time will look like here's a video of Chris from our Lower Mountains Hub reading Oi Frog. Kerin

18.01.2022 In order to best meet the needs of the health, social and community services workers across a range of professions all over Australia, Emerging Minds, with its ...delivery partners, is conducting the National Workforce Survey for Family, Parent and Child Mental Health. We believe this survey is the first of its kind and will give us a baseline measure for improving the way we support children’s mental health. If you work with adults who might be parents, with families and/or with children, we would love to hear from you! The survey is online and takes about 15 minutes to complete. We’re hoping to gain as many responses as possible so that we can better help professionals across Australia to support children’s mental health in their everyday work. There are also six iPads to be won! The first draw (3 iPads) will be in early February 2021 and the last draw in early March 2021. So be sure to complete the survey early to have a chance in both draws. Complete the survey today: http://bit.ly/3nrKXib

17.01.2022 It's Education Week and a chance to celebrate the transformational power of an education. Education opens doors, options and a world of possibility. It's the s...ilver bullet. It's essential, and completely life changing. It's also something many young people struggle to engage with for a whole range of reasons - English could be an additional language, there could be difficulty accessing resources like a computer or data, or things might not be stable at home. This Education Week we want to particularly celebrate the power of education for voices at risk of not being heard, or kids at risk at being left behind - especially this year. Everyone deserves an education #EdWeek20 #learningtogether

16.01.2022 James and I made a train. It was a bit of fun, even if we didn't exactly follow Chris' instructions. We used scissors, glue and textas we found in the office and coloured paper and cupcake holders from our craft pack. Our train now hangs above my desk in the office. If you're interested in a craft pack for this and other story related activities to come, please give us a call on 4759 2592 or email me at [email protected]

Researchers from the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, Ingham Institute and Western Sydney University are conducting a research study to promote the use of some new guidelines in NSW public dental services. These guidelines recommend that public dental care providers assess children’s weight and height, provide dietary advice, and refer children outside a healthy weight to required services. This study involves participating in a workshop to discuss health promotion programs that you have been offered in the past and what you felt was useful to you in these programs. From this, you will help design a strategy to promote the successful use of the new guidelines. The workshop will be 1.5 hours long and will be conducted at a convenient time and place. Participation is voluntary and the information you provide will be strictly confidential. You will be reimbursed for the time and effort required from participating in this project. This study has been approved by the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Human Research Ethics Committee. If you would like to be involved, please contact Amy Villarosa, (Principal Investigator) Tel: 02 8738 9354 or email: [email protected]

11.01.2022 Hi all, This is a plug for the Dads and Kids playgroup at Heatherbrae on Saturday mornings. The group has been going for many years from a few different locatio...ns and is facilitated by local dads - Simon Williams and Vasant DeMello. It's a great way to meet other Blue Mountains fathers and to spend time with your children in a lovely environment. There's a fenced outdoor area with a sand pit, garden, shade and places to sit. Inside there are great toys to play with, books to read, places to relax and tea and coffee. Heatherbrae is the old house across the road from the carpark behind Lawson Pub and the group runs every Saturday morning from 10.00-12.00. Ring 47591462 if you want to know more. See more

By listening to what you have to say, we can better understand what we can do to help our community be safe, well and strong. We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to answer 5 questions in our Belong Blue Mountains ‘Community Voice Survey’. All responses will be extremely valuable and always anonymous. www.belongbm.org.au/survey
