23.01.2022 Retreat Food. After a break of 5 months weve resumed our 1 day retreats here at Kookaburra Creek with the next this weekend. It is a great joy to prepare and share organic, fresh life-giving plant foods on our retreats. Food is an integral component of our programs and provides a foundation of vitality and wellbeing which supports our yoga practice and life. On last weeks retreat we had an abundance of citrus and rosemary so made these delightful mandarin, lemon and rosemary cakes with a rosemary cashew cream. Dreaming up recipes for this weekend. Any ideas or retreat favourites?

20.01.2022 "If youve been to the Monkey Forest in Ubud you will have seen the monkeys at play - swinging from tree to tree, stealing unsuspecting tourists phones and bananas. We are a little like those monkeys - jumping from one moment in time to the next, seeking out lifes pleasures, running away from the uncomfortable, always busy, busy, busy. Our minds are a little like those monkeys, actually our minds are like the whole monkey forest! What can you do to tame those wild monkeys, ...to reign in the thoughts and tendencies to worry and stress? Our aim in yoga is to find constant peace, steadiness, stability in the midst of all the busyness and craziness of our lives and the world, and hold onto this connection to self in times of transition and change." 20.01.2022 Ode to Joy. There is a difference between the joy which comes from sensory pleasures and the joy which arises from within - think of all you touch, taste, smell, hear and see, and how these experiences bring you pleasure or displeasure, you either like it or you dont. Either way these experiences and our thoughts and feelings about them are transitory, limited and not lasting. Happiness is fleeting, sorrows come and go. The joy which comes from being in harmony with the cre...ative forces of the universe, with ones own Divine Self is permanent, with no limits. To know the self, is to love and appreciate life. If it is true that joy is fundamentally who we are, and is the aim and result of the attainment of pleasure, of our goals, why then are so many of us unhappy even when we have more than we need to be content? What does it take to be truly happy, especially when the forces around us seem to demand our time, energy and inner resources? The Taittiriya Upanishad is a remarkable exposition on Joy. What it is, and how to attain it, permanently. It requires you to respect the World, to know your Self, to find Joy. This is the method and the goal. These two meditations with Mandy delve deeply into this Upanishad. It is here the Koshas, or layers, of Self are described and with this as a framework we mediate upon and attune to the body, breath, mind, wisdom and bliss layers to experience ourselves as pure consciousness, to glimpse and become the ever-present Joy. This weekend meditation is in two parts. Video 1 is a talk on the Koshas, followed by Pranayama and Meditation. Video 2 is Yoga Nidra with inspirational and profound readings from the Taittiriya Upanishad. Available in our FB Group Kookaburra Yoga Online Classes.

19.01.2022 Taking a moment to pause and be immersed in wild nature. There are many botanical metaphors in traditional yoga texts - a reminder that the same principles which apply to the balance and wellbeing of nature apply to us too. And the whole range of emotion and experience available to us is reflected in the outer reality - to accept and appreciate the wildness, emptiness, harshness, softness and immense beauty of nature is to accept and appreciate the self. We are between Bluff Knoll retreats, therefore there is no class tonight (Wed eve 6pm), or online weekend meditations, as Mandy is away and offline between retreats taking long sunny walks along the beautiful south coast.

16.01.2022 Today If ever there were a spring day so perfect, so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze that it made you want to throw... open all the windows in the house and unlatch the door to the canarys cage, indeed, rip the little door from its jamb, a day when the cool brick paths and the garden bursting with peonies seemed so etched in sunlight that you felt like taking a hammer to the glass paperweight on the living room end table, releasing the inhabitants from their snow-covered cottage so they could walk out, holding hands and squinting into this larger dome of blue and white, well, today is just that kind of day. Poem by Billy Collins. Flower show by Mother Nature, Bedfordale. For those who cant go into wild nature and be amongst the flowers and trees today please enjoy these wondrous beauties.

13.01.2022 We don't count the years, but we definitely count our blessings! In celebration of love in all its forms we're hosting a Full Moon Havan, Meditation and Dinner on our anniversary weekend. You're so very welcome to join us Sunday 25 April 6-8:30pm. Details on our website kookaburrayoga.com A little bit about the Havan... Following this we enjoy a warming, nourishing dinner made with love. The Havan is a beautiful and transformative ritual incorporating meditation, Vedic mantras and a specific sacred fire ceremony, performed by priests and householders alike - very much part of ashram and family life in India. The havan helps us to purify, rejuvenate and protect the heart, the mind, the soul of all in attendance and to cleanse the air and environment. Rituals such as the Havan provide us with the opportunity to reflect upon life, cultivate and express gratitude, release past hurts we may be holding onto and inner obstacles to our happiness and fulfilment. Only then are we free to move forwards with a clear, unburdened heart. The Havan is a specific process aimed at refinement of the subtle energy existing in matter incorporating the power and intent of specific Vedic mantras to bring about purification and healing of not only the individuals in attendance but also the environment. This quite naturally leads to profound and insightful meditation, and a deep feeling of interconnectedness and love for the people and beings of the world. 12.01.2022 Retreat Food. After a break of 5 months we've resumed our 1 day retreats here at Kookaburra Creek with the next this weekend. It is a great joy to prepare and share organic, fresh life-giving plant foods on our retreats. Food is an integral component of our programs and provides a foundation of vitality and wellbeing which supports our yoga practice and life. On last week's retreat we had an abundance of citrus and rosemary so made these delightful mandarin, lemon and rosemary cakes with a rosemary cashew cream. Dreaming up recipes for this weekend. Any ideas or retreat favourites?

10.01.2022 Meditation - 24 teachers from Nature. This weekends meditation video is now online ready for your weekend practice. Being still in nature is so deeply replenishing, this weekend we take you on a walk through the forest along an escarpment overlooking the Brookton Valley. From this vantage point we take a moment to be still, to listen to the sounds of nature, to gaze softly at the trees, to connect with nature. Through pranayama we derive energy from the elements. By meditati...ng on the sounds of the outer and then the inner realms the mind becomes quiet and balance is restored. Youll hear the story of the great Sage Dattatreya and his 24 teachers. This story might surprise you. His gurus are not the wise and enlightened masters of yoga, but are of the earth. Dattatreya lived in the forest as an ascetic and spent his days naked and wildly happy living amongst the trees. He was approached by King Yadu who asked him to reveal the secret of his happiness. Dattatreya responded "I have had twenty four gurus. Everything, this body, the earth, the birds, some instruments, some persons, all have taught me. This story is interwoven into our meditation journey. It is for each of us to open our minds and hearts to listen, to look and learn and find our own teachers in Nature. Finding time to meditate, to be still in nature is truly an antidote to our stresses and troubles. I do hope you enjoy the simplicity of this practice and the relief of returning home to your heart. 10.01.2022 SHUNYA MEDITATION & GUIDED YOGA NIDRA 8pm-9pm Shunya refers to the formless, to nothingness, the void, to zero. 0 is a circle, a symbol of eternity, evolution, infinity and the cyclical nature of experience. Shunya is this state of awareness where everything comes to nothingness, and from this nothingness everything is created new. Every night when we sleep we become nothing, everything morning when we wake we recreate our world and reality. Our first thought of the da...y should be one of Joy. Just like the number zero, nothing can be added or taken away from Shunya. If Ishvara, the Divine is the unchanging reality, then Shunya is the Divine. In meditation we link to that which is unchanging to amplify our power, to transcend the worries, tensions and stresses of the world, and remember our essence is this same unchanging, ever-present source of support. We do this using a the breath, with a beautiful mantra which takes us there, like a raft which safely, steadily supports us as we journey across the sea of samsara (experience). Once the mind is quiet and body deeply relaxed, there is an expansion of the inner self and a feeling of merging, becoming the vastness. This feeling is one of heavenly bliss and brings such respite from the stresses and tensions of life. The yogis perceive this state as kaivalyam an emptiness characterised by a fullness where the self is restored to its original state free from all impressions and influences of the early world and everyday experience. This is why meditation traditions emphasise letting go of thoughts, detaching from awareness of the physical body in order to obtain peace. Join Mandy for this wonderful meditation and guided relaxation on the theme of Shunya in our this evening live in our FB Group Kookaburra Yoga Online Classes Sunday 8pm-9pm https://www.facebook.com/groups/kookaburrayogaonlineclasses Our online classes are free if you need them to be. You can pay by becoming an online member ($80pm) or $10 per online class. Link to book this session: https://www.momoyoga.com//lesson/7167174/weekend-meditation.

05.01.2022 Weekend Meditation. Finding Peace in Challenging Times. What is real and permanent peace and how do we attain it? Is it even possible to be truly happy, to feel safe, to be well, given the state of the world? Nature is both both beautiful and terrible, as is the world we live upon, as is the inner landscape of the heart. We recognise and accept the changing nature of life, that life is fleeting, fragile and precious, and seek out the reality beyond experience. Stop for a mom...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Can you help? Behind the scenes of our retreats, classes, online meditations, cooking classes, India yoga journeys, hosting international teachers and programs here in Perth, in fact everything we do, there are layers of work to be done which ensure everyone who participates is supported and nurtured. Tasks ranging from cleaning, maintenance, cooking, administration, marketing, communications, program design, preparation and delivery, to our own continuing education and know...ledge-building, and probably more, are undertaken by our our small team which includes our family. It is my beautiful sister who keeps our premises sparkling clean, our beloved daughter who does the mountains of dishes, our enthusiastic and generous volunteers and wwoofers who help with the gardens, and of course our lovely teachers who deliver the classes. We feel blessed, honoured in fact, to have created such a sanctuary, and to have this opportunity to share all that we’ve learnt over the years. It is our dharma, our life purpose, to be of service, to stay connected with the ancient yoga traditions of India, and help make them relevant, accessible and meaningful for the many people who come to Kookaburra Creek and our retreats. We’re not perfect people by any means, but do our best, and are grateful to have met so many wonderful, kind people, sincere seekers and beautiful souls. It was therefore a surprise to be publicly targeted by a company who's owner and employees have left defamatory false reviews on our google listing with the intention of causing harm and discrediting our centre. Having never attended the centre or our programs, their reviews give a negative impression of us, our teachers, our students, and the centre itself. There is little which can be done to remove such a review (appealing to the authors and Google has failed to have them removed). Therefore the advice we have received is to flood our listing with genuine positivity to drown out their voices. If you have attended classes, retreats or programs with Kookaburra Yoga and and are willing to share a little of it, we would very deeply appreciate it if you could leave a review on our Google listing. While we receive feedback in many ways - directly, emails, messages, Facebook, instagram) we have never asked for or solicited Google reviews, and have very few to counter the negativity. Your help would be so appreciated and will help ensure that those who are seeking the peace and tranquility yoga could bring to them, can attend our centre and programs with confidence. Here is the link to leave a review on the Kookaburra Yoga profile: https://g.page/kookaburrayoga/review?gm Thank you and much love, Mandy and Robert

04.01.2022 BLUE SKY MIND MEDITATION RETREAT The sky over the ocean at Margaret River is vast, wild, changeable and expansive. Our minds are like this and meditation is like observing the sky, noticing the weather, the fleeting rain, clouds, the storms, the birds, the planes. Once the clouds pass (which they do) we notice the inner beauty, creative and expansive nature of our own minds. Meditation is amazing - we literally peel away the layers of illusion to reveal the majesty and beau...ty, the creativity and insight of the true self. In all our seeking, striving and all our doing, we forget that perfect knowledge and insight are cultivated through being still and are found within. Even yoga is something we do, yet is also the state we desire to attain. It is through immersive meditation that the meditator becomes the meditation, the dancer become the dance, the subtle form of that which we meditate upon is revealed to us. This knowledge of the inner self quite literally transforms our experience of life. The Blue Sky Mind Meditation Retreat is an immersive retreat in luxury venue in Margaret River, one of WAs most stunning destinations with spectacular Marri forests and beautiful, wild beaches. youll delve deep into the higher, quieter and mystical practices of yoga including meditation, pranayama, mindfulness, mantra, philosophy and more to unlock the limitless potential and beauty of the inner self. Youll be guided in the wisdom traditions of yoga, learning about mantras, yantras, mudras, bhavanas, bandhas, pranayama, puja, and chanting. Youll learn to meditate effectively learning much about your self along the way, with an aim to building your own meaningful and sustainable meditation practice to continue after the retreat. Meditation can then become a steadying calming and uplifting support for your life. 02.01.2022 "If you've been to the Monkey Forest in Ubud you will have seen the monkeys at play - swinging from tree to tree, stealing unsuspecting tourists' phones and bananas. We are a little like those monkeys - jumping from one moment in time to the next, seeking out life's pleasures, running away from the uncomfortable, always busy, busy, busy. Our minds are a little like those monkeys, actually our minds are like the whole monkey forest! What can you do to tame those wild monkeys, ...to reign in the thoughts and tendencies to worry and stress? Our aim in yoga is to find constant peace, steadiness, stability in the midst of all the busyness and craziness of our lives and the world, and hold onto this connection to self in times of transition and change."
