24.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all our amazing dads!

24.01.2022 Anyone else relate?

21.01.2022 Have you checked out Teeny Tiny Stevies on ABC kids?? It’s on repeat on our house. They have a bunch of fun songs for preschoolers around toileting, dressing, eating vegetables, baby in mummies tummy. Kids love to learn through fun and this show is load of fun!!

20.01.2022 Let’s face it, it’s been a bloomin’ tough year. It would be tough to find anyone that hasn’t had a few mental health challenges through lockdown and home schooling. As parents, the mental load of getting through life is enormous and can really take it’s toll, but when you also throw in a child with challenges it can feel like your drowning in worry. If you’re feeling this way, please know there is help out there. Talk to us about what’s happening and we can point you in the right direction for help. Please don’t suffer in silence!

20.01.2022 I’m armed and ready with my highlighter! Can’t wait to get stuck into this report today!!

20.01.2022 This feedback makes my heart happy! I asked our little friend today what changes he has seen in sister and this was his response. This right here is why we do the work we do...to help children, and their families, live their best lives!

20.01.2022 Mr Zap the Robot has been our favourite toy lately! It’s great for robot loving kids and facilitates imagination among other skills! Here our little friend is working on attention, persistence, impulse control, hand/eye coordination, hand strength and coordination, grading force, visual scanning and perception...phew! The most important fact is that our kids work best they are engaged in occupations that are fun and interesting!!

18.01.2022 Happy OT week! The job we do is such an obscure profession but I dare say, there aren’t many others out there that inspire as much passion and joy as OT. There’s never a bad day and everyday we learn from our families and our team mates. It’s so inspirational to help a child achieve a goal like riding a bike, playing with a sibling or friend or crying tears of joy at a child’s first words or steps. We love what we do!

16.01.2022 Most families we see have goals around their child’s behaviour and emotional regulation. To be completely honest, the same goes in my household. It’s a constant battle even for someone like me that coaches other therapists, parents and children! I’ve read most of Dan Siegel’s books and they are amazing. A lot of his strategies I’ve put into practice with my tween, but I’ve often struggled to do the same with my little one because he has such enormous emotions that often trig...ger me and result in reaction rather than connection. Despite only received this workbook today I can already see so many scenarios to work through in the book that are similar to situations at home where I’ve lost my temper rather than recognized what’s behind the behaviour. The more we reflect and grow as parents the more we can support our kids, especially the ones that struggle with emotions and behavior. See more

15.01.2022 We love to draw people! Not only is it fun but also works on lots of skills like pre-writing (shoulder stability, pencil grasp, pre-writing shapes of lines and circles etc). At the same time, we can work on body awareness (a child should be drawing a seperate head and body by around 4 years) and emotions by changing facial expressions. Who knew that such a simple activity could work on so many things!

12.01.2022 It’s all fun and games in our office today as Rachel, Isobel and Christina do some Traffic Jam in my Brain

12.01.2022 Congrats to our Kool Katt of the month! The team voted Daniel this month for Having the Right Kattitude and for Leaving them Feline Good. He consistently helps out with our student placements, assists with assessments and his families love how much fun his sessions are. Well done Dan!!

11.01.2022 Happy book week!! Where’s Wally visited us this week and we found him hiding all over the clinic. Dressing up is so much fun for kids!! They can take on the persona of the other person or animal and often involves moving their bodies in new and different ways

10.01.2022 < The stages of having a toddler! But they will always be our most precious gifts

08.01.2022 What a way to start OT week! Congratulations to us for being a finalist 3 years running!

08.01.2022 Lycra sheets!! Due to covid, we’ve had to remove our Lycra hammocks at work. These hammocks provide such a calming experience for our kiddos that have poor proprioception (knowing where you are in space). We’re trying out a Lycra bedsheet tonight for my little guy who is having difficulty with under responsiveness to this sense. For him, this shows up as a constant need for movement/crashing into things, craving cuddles and rough play, anxiety around novel situations such as people bumping into him or surprising him, w-sitting, poor core stability and needing to lay on the floor to play. Let us know if you’ve had any luck with Lycra sheets? We’ll let you know if it’s a or a from us...

07.01.2022 OT Week celebrations! Our friends @eunoialane exchanged a wonderful care package to celebrate OT week. Our kids are loving Cassie the crocodile book written by a local child in the NT! And our little treat bags are such a thoughtful addition. Thankyou!!!

05.01.2022 Congratulations to our gorgeous Michelle for winning our ‘Paws and Reflect’ recognition award this month. Michelle has been living the values of ‘Have the right Kattitude’ and ‘Leave them Feline Good’. She is always ready to jump in and support the other therapists. She has such enthusiasm and passion for her job and the families she helps. What a champion!!

05.01.2022 Our amazing receptionist Nat, received the ‘Paws and Reflect’ award for October. She is such a fantastic support to our team and in fact it was almost a landslide with 5 votes! Well done Nat..thanks for being the KATTS Pyjamas!!

04.01.2022 We had such a special day yesterday in our clinic. Firstly and most importantly, we surprised Daniel and Alyssa with a pseudo graduation. This is such an important event in your life and it’s such a shame they didn’t get to have a ceremony due to COVID so we invited their families to come to the clinic and celebrate the occasion with us. Additionally, we closed up shop for the day to do some important training on trauma and the sensory/motor interventions we can use with our kiddos who have not only experienced traumatic events but also those that experience the sensory world around them as traumatic. It’s such a wonderful experience coming together as a team to learn and celebrate!

04.01.2022 One of the core values we have at Kool Katts is ‘Leave them Feline Good’. This means we take the time to care for each other and our families, we are encouraging and understanding, we respect everyone and we do what we say we will. This week as our 4th year student Rachel finishes up her placement she wrote us this lovely card and gave us all cat socks!! I’m so excited about this card for a number reasons. 1. She has been welcomed, encouraged and supported as one of the team. 2. She has lived our values even before she knew we’d wanted to hire her. 3. When I hear anyone say that we have the best team, it makes my year! I love that we have created not just a great place to work but a family of therapists with a common goal of changing lives!

03.01.2022 Omg this looks amazing for our exhausted mums!!!

03.01.2022 This month our team are all walking 10,000 steps per day to raise money for Cerebral Palsy! We’ve got 3 separate teams competing for the most steps walked over the month!

02.01.2022 This is the best! Think of all the risks we took as kids. It was almost non stop. Unfortunately our kids don’t get that opportunity so we need to make sure we create it for them

01.01.2022 There’s no rest for my weary highlighter today! Ndis have been busy researching and reporting changes to their structures and supports. Stay tuned for updates...
