21.01.2022 International Day of People with Disabilities 3rd December 2020 Yesterday afternoon, Koolkuna was lucky enough to have a visitor from Wheelchair Sports NSW to raise awareness of living with a disability. Our guest, Stephan, taught us some tips and tricks and the challenges that are faced for everyday life in a Wheelchair. It was inspiring to listen to Stephan’s story, providing firsthand knowledge and real life examples of the challenges he has overcome. The children were actively encouraged to ask Stephan about living with a disability & adaptive sports before having the opportunity to form two teams, jump into wheelchairs and play a game of wheelchair basketball.
21.01.2022 Yesterday, Koolkuna took the time to commemorate the Australian Corps in remembrance of the end of the First World War. The Koolkuna educators took one minutes silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. We took this opportunity to program and implement indoor activities to educate and reflect on our historic past. The children particular enjoyed learning about the significance behind the poppies. Lest we Forget.
16.01.2022 Koolkuna is so excited to be visiting Taronga Zoo in Vacation Care before Christmas to see all of our animal friends! It was such a popular excursion that it became fully booked within the week! 16.01.2022 Can you believe in just 2 weeks all 13 of these little ducklings hatched and got to experience their first time waddling and swimming at Koolkuna?! Such an amazing experience to witness the growth of each duckling, especially Teeny who hatched 4 days after the others! What was your child's favourite activity during Vacation Care?

14.01.2022 Every item has an impact. With the current fast-pace of fashion consumption, nearly 6000 kilograms of clothing and textile waste goes to Australian landfills every 10 minutes. Koolkuna recently purchased a beautiful eco-friendly rug from Vinnies Brookvale made from recycled textiles & materials. For over 2 years, Vinnies NSW has been sending some of their non-saleable donations to overseas partners who are now turning these textiles into something of value such as blankets, throws, rugs & cushions. If you have any spare time on the weekend, head down to Vinnies Brookvale to check out their re/CYCLE incentive to support people experiencing poverty, homelessness and hardship throughout the state.
14.01.2022 Koolkuna is looking for local emergency service workers to visit us during the upcoming Summer holidays to educate our children of the key role these individuals have in making our Northern Beaches community safe and protected. If you are or know anyone who is a: Police officer, Paramedic, Firefighter or SES Volunteer and would like to participate in this Incursion activity; please email Koolkuna for further details! Also if parents or children have any other ideas for Vacation Care Incursions or Excursions we would love to hear them! Please post your ideas below!
