25.01.2022 Yesterday we moved our ladies into a new area. They inspected every corner as a herd checking out the perimeter and best spots to feed.

25.01.2022 We have one more Koolmundoola foal to introduce - Koolmundoola Toffee who arrived two days ago. The other foals are also thriving and growing up fast. An update is given on each below. It is not intended to undertake any further breeding for a minimum of three years (these were unintended and occurred during the handover of the stud to Ian). Expressions of interest are welcomed. They will all be available for sale once weaned and given a basic education before going to new homes (lead/tie and c/s/f). Ongoing support will be available for new owners.

24.01.2022 As well as owning the Koolmundoola stud, Ian is committed to the welfare of horses and supports horse rescue organisations by training rescued horses and ponies. This is Ian pictured with Honey from Project Hope Horse Welfare Victoria. From being a scared pony, terrified of being caught, she has come a long way under Ians gentle hand. She will stay with Ian at the Koolmundoola Appaloosa Stud until she completes her groundwork training and will then be available for adoption through PHHWV.

24.01.2022 Two more new arrivals! Koolmundoola Brown Sugar and Koolmundoola Butterscotch arrived on the 4th and 11th September respectively. Both have a spot/star in the middle of their forehead and both are doing well.

23.01.2022 Check out our new website! https://koolmundoola.wixsite.com/koolmundoola

22.01.2022 Meet Linda, our oldest spotty resident at around 30 years old. As the weather is now starting to warm up I gave her a good brush. I should have collected it to make a horse hair pad! Perhaps next year.

21.01.2022 A "Blast from the Past"! The Candyspot Kid was an outstanding horse and many of the horses at Koolmundoola carry his bloodline. This advertisement is from 1981.

21.01.2022 This is my kind of rodeo!

20.01.2022 Introducing Koolmundoola Neo. These pictures were taken on Friday when he was born - this colt is big with legs that go right up to his neck! Neo has the most unusual colouring and we are curious to see whether it roans out or gets darker. His breeding lineage includes Fewspot 3, Northbound Ima Goer and The Candyspot Kid. This morning he was cantering smoothly around the paddock but unfortunately I missed catching it with the camera. Also, a picture of Surprise who is now two weeks old and looking beautiful.

19.01.2022 A bit of Koolmundoola history Ian Shaw. Cheers Diana-Lee Saville

19.01.2022 Dear followers, we are trying to contact a lady called "Bec" who owned Koolmundoola Toby. It would be greatly appreciated if any of you are able to put us in contact with her, or ask her to contact us. Many thanks.

19.01.2022 I hope that everyone is Covid safe. Here at Koolmundoola we have been taking advantage of the restrictions and undertaking a lot of work to improve facilities to enable us to care for and manage our horses. Have a look at the photos to see what we have been doing. This has included building a set of mustering yards and we are now putting these into use. Our first task is to get in our colts for gelding. These colts will be gelded next week (unless sold prior).

19.01.2022 Sometimes we see nothing but spots before our eyes...!!!! Meet our wonderful leopards. These spotty ladies and boys are all very different but all have great temperaments. Some of them are available for purchase.

18.01.2022 The kids decided to race the hay truck. They won but soon came rushing back led by Yarrabee. The late evening sun really made their coats glow. And yes, those are ostriches in the background. We have a few on the property.

16.01.2022 With 45 degree temperature forecast, this morning was spent doing a thorough check that all water troughs are working correctly. We are very lucky that all but one of our paddocks have large trees that provide shade (the one that doesnt is currently being rested). We have a fire plan but just hope we never have to use it.We are also fortunate to be very close to the CFA and the town so are connected to town water. Our thoughts are with those of you who are near existing fir...es, particularly friends in NSW. Stay safe everyone.

16.01.2022 This pilot flies rescued baby chimp to his new home

11.01.2022 Late evening at Koolmundoola.......the kids rushing up to meet us.

11.01.2022 This mother lost her baby in labor. Two days later, the mare was introduced to this foal who had lost her mom during her birth. This photo was taken an hour after they were introduced. This is beautiful.

10.01.2022 We hope you all had a happy and safe Easter break. Today the 32 ladies in the brood mare herd enjoyed being let into the last paddock which has some feed. They colour the horizon with their wide range of colours and patterns.

08.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day to all HORSE lovers near and wide. #Appaloosa #Horses #ValentinesDay2019

08.01.2022 Koolmundoola Yarrabee wondering whether hair is good to eat.... This was Yarrabees second training session and, from being completely unhandled, he learned to be haltered and led very quickly. A testament to the temperament of these Koolmundoola horses. When this fewspot yearlings training program is completed, he will be up for sale. Keep in touch with his progress on Facebook.

07.01.2022 Yarrabee, Zebedee and Xerxes greeting us at the paddock gate.

03.01.2022 This years foals are just beginning their training. They quickly learned to follow the hay truck and here are some of them munching away. Amongst this years foals we have a wide range of coat patterns - leopard, blanket, snowcap, fewspot, roan and a couple of solids. There will be no breeding this year and thus no foals for 2020 and 2021 so if you are interested in acquiring a Koolmundoola foal, please contact us now. The foals will be individually presented for sale once they have completed halter training.

03.01.2022 Well I think I have a zillion points....how about you? (Posted by Connie)

02.01.2022 Ian Shaw is the new owner and safe horse handling trainer at Koolmundoola Appaloosa Stud Farm in Edenhope. Here are the 2018 foals (photos Nov 2018-Jan 2019). Direct message the FB page if interested. Horses will be available in late Feb 2019/early March 2019.

02.01.2022 The Koolmundoola mares are now altogether in one herd and the wide range of coat patterns can be seen - there are leopards, varnish, snowcap, blanket, snowflake, roans and solids amongst them. Like everywhere else, feed is low so here they are: heads down, bottoms up and total concentration on the hay!

01.01.2022 Meet the Koolmundoola "redheads".... Copper, Cinnamon, Ginger, Maple and Fudge. These five ladies are some of our younger mares and all are a magnificent ches...tnut colour being solid with the exception of Fudge who has a pretty snowflake pattern on her rump. Ginger and Maple are half sisters and spend a great deal of time hanging out together. Copper has already begun groundwork training and the others will be starting their training in the next couple of months. We look forward to introducing you to more of our ladies in due course.

01.01.2022 From all of us here, being Ian, myself (Laina) and our horses listed below, we wish everyone a safe and happy festive season. Top of the wish list here is of course some rain.. It was too hard to get them to stand in groups whilst I took a photo so I have just selected a few along with a group video of most of our ladies. On the twelfth day of Christmas... my true love sent to me: Eleven Yearlings Playing Ten Ladies Grazing Nine Boys a Jumping Eight White Mares Seven Spotted Leopards Six Chestnut Ladies Five Appy Foals Four OTTs Three Grey Girls Two Arab Mares and a Shetland in a Shade Tree

01.01.2022 Meet Koolmundoola Surprise! When Ian took formal possession of the stud last year, all stallions and colts were removed from the small herds of mares as it was intended not to breed for a couple of years in order to give the mares a rest. However it seems not soon enough! This little package greeted us in the paddock. We had noticed her mum and a couple of others were looking a little overweight but thought that perhaps phantom pregnancies or grass bloating was the cause...... We have named her Surprise for obvious reasons. Fortunately there is a record of exactly who was in which paddock so we can confirm that her dam is Koolmundoola Ripples (from Candeuca lineage) and sire is Koolmundoola Spot On (from Fewspot lineage). We now realise we have a couple more surprise packages on the way.
